Hot take- the Phils should let Realmuto walk
-
I'm a Phils fan and love him, but he'll never even remotely live up to the contract he's going to demand this off season. It really stinks knowing we gave up Sixto for just two years of JT on a mediocre teams, but he's about to turn 30 at a position that's very unkind to age. Let him walk and spend the money elsewhere.

Do the phils have a catcher in their system? Dodgers passed on grandal, who is a beast, but they had two guys that they were really high on in their system.

No, not really. Knapp the backup is serviceable but nothing special. Good stats this year but he'd regress to the mean in a normal-length season.

Yeah. There’s a reason that he can ask for a good paycheck. There’s not a lot of really good catchers out there. The question is, do you have someone who can produce anything and can to turn that 20+ million in to something else that can help you win. The Phillies are clearly all in on winning. So, they’re going to spend the money anyway. To be honest that’s how I felt about Bryce harper when the dodgers were interested. I’m glad the dodgers held on to that cash. I love harper, but he’s not mookie.

The Phils aren’t a good team with JT this year and I don’t see how they’re any better with him next year. I’d rather them give Knapp a shot and spread JTs $30M around on some bullpen arms and back end starters. We have a solid core with Harper, Bohm, and Hoskins that is still young. I’d rather they re-sign Didi and get some pitching.

Okay, I’m sold. I thought we’d have more Phillies fans around here who would have chimed in
