In vs cpu content, this game really needs to either provide more good pitches to hit OR not nerf hit results. Leaving aside all the other questionable aspects of the gameplay, this is the #1 thing that makes it a frustrating experience instead of fun for me.
If I am playing the game in one of the lowest skill levels, I don’t want to work the count and take pitches waiting for a good pitch to hit. I also don’t want good swings on those pitches to have a nerfed outcome in order for my stats to be “realistic”.
ONE of these mechanisms would be enough. If nerfing hit outcomes, give me more good pitches to hit. If you want me to take pitches, make sure my good swings are rewarded.
SDS seems to have forgotten that people play video games to escape and have fun. A big part of that is fulfilling a fantasy, the illusion of power. Nobody wants to play a video game that makes you feel manipulated and ripped off.

absolutely. i have no desire to waste time on something that has simply become a grind or a gameplay that is inconsistent/dominated by RNG rather than rewarding success.
SDS, or any other company, ultimately want people playing their games as much as possible. i totally get that. and i have the time/freedom to spend that time with The Show. but the way SDS has changed this game since 17 only pushes me away from dedicating much time.
take the Yelich extreme moment, for example. I fired it up, went 5-5 with 1 HR and 4 singles. 3 of those singles were Perfect/Perfect. that was enough for me to make the decision to put this game to bed for the rest of the year. sure, Extreme should be a challenge. but when im doing everything i can on my side to succeed, only to see the game's coding still punish me, whats the point anymore?

vs CPU or Conquest is fine. It is moments that this is true.

Yeah, I agree to some extent. Straight up games vs cpu do get annoying as we move up the difficulty scale, but I find that less offensive.
I do, however, think that showdowns are also suffering from the problem I pointed out.
