How Do You Overcome the Terrible Pitching?
-
I've only been able to play about 30 ranked games this year but I've got a sub 2 ERA. What works for me is when facing an opposite hand hitter I work the hard stuff inside and try to jam them. Same handed hitters I work my way outside and try to get the K with a breaking ball away. If I give up a home run then I double up with that pitch which throws people off. Not sure if any of that helps
-
I just take a guy like Nolan Ryan and aim down the middle figuring no way he's going to put it anywhere close to where I aim
-
I love these get better , you gotta practice. The top players in the game who are great at pitching and hitting have horrendous era’s. I call it pitch and pray because you know your on bored time before a pitch hangs or misses its spot.

And sliders are the best off-speed pitch in the game.
You kidding right? Sliders hang or are forced over the plate more than any other pitch..

Seems like every single RS game, if you start your pitch right on the black, and hit your spots on the pitching interface, it’s a ball 75% of the time.
If your opponent has a good eye, they can just sit and wait until the game forces a pitch down the middle. So goddamn frustrating.
I love when my 99 ovr, good control pitchers have their pitches just simply miss even though you have good input.
I know I’m beating a dead horse but if SDS doesn’t show changes to pitching when they start advertising 21, I will highly consider not buying the game.
It’s getting to the point where the frustration that this game induces day after day is just not worth my time anymore.
What do you all try to do to overcome the god awful pitching this year?
I can almost guarantee you that pitching will be the same, no changes for MLB21, at least, that seems to be the trend.
Let's all hope I'm wrong.
-
I don’t think there is a way to “overcome” it. It’s clearly designed to play this way, so I think it is really just a question of accepting that we don’t really have complete control over the outcomes from our input.
Personally, there is no way I’m buying the game next year. There are too many egregious problems that continue because there is no competition for this game in the market right now.
-
I just scream YEET before every pitch and hope for the best.

Nope....curve balls hang like nobody's business.....then sliders and then changeups.

Just gotta hit.. I go into each game figuring i'm about to give up 6-7 runs
-
What worked best for me is to stop playing.

Really getting close to this point...but so hard for me to walk away given my baseball addiction and addiction to this game
But the frustration is starting to make me consider if it’s worth my time

Lol I hear ya man, that’s the point I’m to as well. Just hope I outslug my opponent

I don't feel pitching is a big of a problem as people make it out to be. Plus if pitching was 100% user input you would never see a ball anywhere close to center of the strike zone and you would literally be swinging at balls or pitches ON the black the entire game and then people would be bitching about that instead. soo....... It's a necessary RNG unfortunately

I agree to an extent.
Yes, it should not be easy to pinpoint every single pitch but also, if your pitcher has great control and BB/9 stats, then why should the pitch not hit its spot when you have good input? That makes literally 0 sense.
They need to completely overhaul pitching and have an interface where if a pitcher has a low control rating, the marks to hit should be difficult to hit....but if you manage to hit your marks on the interface, the pitch should still go where intended

I agree that ratings should determine how hard it is to hit the marks but not sure they can implement thus in the current engine.
Instead we have confidence and energy having random affects on pitch location regardless of input.

Praying that 21 has improved pitching or that they do something to change/improve it...we’ve had the same pitching interfaces for years with no changes to them outside of pitch speeds changing
This year has highlighted how bad pitching is and they need to tweak pitching for 21

By not pitching terribly

The only thing missing in this thread is the Dark Souls crowd saying "git gud, bro". OP has a point. Pitch better? GTFO.

I pitch just fine in this game, go ahead look it up. I’m sitting at like a 3.25 era in online play with a whip under 1. But I’ve also been playing this game since the mid 2000’s too so maybe it’s an experience thing.

The pitching is hard to figure out in RS. I use metered pitching rather than the analog. If you want the ball to catch the inside corner aim all the way outside as far as it goes and you should come close to that inside corner....but be careful, that [censored] will hang if you miss a spot....and no, you won't throw a wild outside pitch that you intended on throwing. Same goes for the changeup. You want that to stay in the bottom of the zone, throw it in the dirt, but most of the time she'll just float her [censored] and hang right in their sweet spot. But the other guy using analog pitching will hit their spot every time. At the end of the day, it's metered pitching that seems to be the most inaccurate and flawed. Pulse also works for better accuracy, but it's hard as heck to follow that shrinking circle.
