Ok here is the math plain and simple so pay attention. You get 13 total tops now cards from completing the moments. Everyone had the opportunity to get a free Lucas Giolito. Now you’re up to 14. Everyone had the opportunity to collect Amir Garrett at the beginning of the season so now we’re at 15. When the POTM program launched guess what guys they duplicated your tops now packs from the whole month. So now you have 13 additional tops now cards bringing your total to 28. Add in the 7 POTM cards in the program and you’ve collected 35 cards which oddly enough is exactly what you needed for the collection. Guess what, Tatis could be had for free. No investment what so ever. Now if you choose to sell those cards as you get them, well that’s on you and you can play with garbage SS for the remainder of the games lifecycle. Yes Tatis is worth every stub you spend but he could’ve been had for free if you were patient.
You are misunderstanding the question. Not sure why you assume I haven’t been “patient”, but I’ve completed all the moments and programs to claim Tatis for “free”, just like yourself. But Tatis is NOT free. The opportunity cost of locking in those “free” SELLABLE Topps Now cards is about 400K right now. The question is Tatis worth it?
Put it to ya this way. If someone gave you 200K and suggested you buy a Ferrari, that’s not a free Ferrari. You could’ve spent that on anything you wanted. For instance, instead of locking in that 400K worth of Topps Now cards for Tatis, I could use that to buy a “free” 99 Sale AND 99 Scherzer for my rotation.
I believe you have misunderstood what I’ve been saying. Not only did I not have to invest in Tatis, I ultimately got a return of 400k stubs back for a 200k profit because I not only locked in the 35 needed cards but also bought the rest of them then I turn around and flip the duplicates from the program and the extras I didn’t need to complete the collection. So is Tatis worth it in the scenario that I’ve been saying the whole time? Yes is my answer and he’s worth every stub spent even if I didn’t completely manipulate the market for a huge payday.
You investing in Topps Now cards and making profits is irrelevant, though. No matter how many stubs you have or have made, the bottom line is when you lock in those cards you are basically paying 400K for Tatis.
Wrong you are not paying anything for him buy locking him in. From what you are saying we pay for every single card if we lock them into any collections instead of selling on the Market. I wonder how many stubs everyone loss from locking in cards. Any stubs I would have earned by selling those cards I can make up on the market. Some of us locked half those cards in for Trout and he is worth it. I spent 0 stubs on those cards so yeah I got Tatis for free. I just did not gain a profit.

You’re right. You are not paying for Tatis, however you are sacrificing the option to easily sell those cards for market value of 400K. I feel ya, for what it’s worth I’m leaning towards collecting Tatis. I just feel dirty locking in 400k worth of Topps Now cards haha.

Then the question is what would you do with those 400k? Market prices continue to change.
-
You’re right, the game does give out PLENTY of stubs this year in one form or another. The only player I’m eyeing right now is 99 Sale, however, I’m sure the next two inning programs I’ll probably want all 3 bosses so that has me thinking as well.

Everyone is different, but what I did was grind out what I could, finish the program and then lock in.
Bought Sale off the market and played ranked.
Matched with an absolute YouTube goon “Fittest Gamers” and rage quit after he hit a bomb with Sheffield off me in inning one.
Seemed like he would have done big things if I ever played this POS game again though.
Doubt you can quick sell.
Interesting. Were u really giving advice to OP? First paragraph makes sense, rest is a not so subtle irrelevant rant.
If the stubs are needed and you dont like tatis take em. I dont have a problem personally locking in cards i got from playing to get tatis and castellanos.
No u cant quick sell afterI was trying to be funny. But that actually happened lol.
The one piece of advice I’d say is to grind out the free cards from the program first and sell your highest valued TN cards on the market, only locking in the cheapest ones.
-
The only real cost of Tatis is time. If you did the other POTM Programs along with the Topps Now...it's completely free and you get Castellanos on top of that. You can still do these programs now.
I don't understand the debate, really.
-
Like I said back on page one is that your question should have been “would you lock in Tatis or would you sell TN for x amount of stubs?”
I believe you’re throwing people off by saying Tatis is not free for you when technically yes he is free for you. If you are handed something without having to pay whether it’s a can of soda or a Ferrari it would be free to you regardless of its value. What you choose to do with it once it’s yours is up to you.
Then the question is what would the 400k in stubs do for you? Do you have a lower tier team where you could fill three or four positions with very solid players or are you pretty set and an endgame SS would fit nicely?

I gotcha, perhaps the way I worded my question was a little confusing. I personally view a player as “free” when they have a program, do a few moments, and get a free non sellable player. But this one is a little tricky for me. In essence Tatis is free, given the boatload of TN players SDS has given us. However, all these players are sellable for a whopping 400K as it sits now. You forfeit that opportunity if you choose to lock them in for Tatis. So that the decision I’m trying to make, that’s all I’m saying.
The only players I’m interested on the market now would be 99 Sale and 99 Scherzer. But I’m sure the last two programs will be stacked so it’s be nice to have some extra stubs.
However, I’m sure the September MA award program will require us to collect TN cards again ( maybe 50 or so ), so that may soften the blow for Tatis. Also it looks pretty easy to Prestige Tatis, which is a little enticing.
-
Tatis would be a 750k card if he was a BR reward, and a 25k card if he was a Topps Now 99 *cough Trea Turner *cough.
That’s why I try not to stick a value to these cards like Tatis or Trout that requires a collection because it’s what you should expect. Remember Halloween bats and Christmas gloves?
BR cards regardless of stats will always get a boatload of stubs because of the rarity and same goes for cards being cheap due to quantity. You have to decide if you’re better off with the stubs or the card.
-
I would think that a lot of the people who locked in cards for Tatis had already locked them in for Trout so much of that 400k in stubs was already spent.
-
I came out ahead about 20k. I had some TN cards, but I sold Jake McGee to buy the TN card I needed when their price tanked for a bit. Was able to sell off the cards I earned as the prices had rebounded some, and was able to buy back McGee with 20k left over.

Do you absolutely need to complete the topps now voucher to get tatis or is there enough grind missions & moments to unlock him without collecting topps now cards?
