That is all. If you have some tips to not blow saves with that card it’d be much appreciated but even great pitches from that card get crushed.

He's been my most used and most solid guy, though I usually use him more in a set up role.

I dont try to strike anyone out, I try to induce poor contact. Sinkers on the hands, cutters high or mid and in, cutters on the outside edges with some changeups mixed in.

It's pretty cliche at this point but it's user error. Dunno what level yer playing at but very few pitchers are effective below HOF.

It’s on HOF, and I wouldn’t say an early HR on a slider 2 inches off the plate is user error.

Well that's the game imo. Not necessarily Rivera. And I'm not saying he's fantastic or anything but worst card in the game is a bit much is all.

He's just easier to read off his release. Some people smash him others are clueless. Gambling on opponent with him imo

Mariano Rivera might be one of the best relievers in the history of baseball not because you couldn’t hit him but because he basically perfected a pitch that nobody could square up and then knew where to place it to prevent people from adjusting to it. He isn’t going to strike people out like Wagner or Chapman. The key to using him is like several people have said, pitch to soft contact. Spamming high cutters in to lefties is going to get crushed. Moving his cutter around the Strikezone will accomplish a lot more positive results. Not a fan of his sinker. Truthfully if you master his cutter you don’t need anything else except the occasional change up or slider to put a master foul baller away.

I've learned throwing his cutter outside on a righty is dangerous. He's known for the cutter. Most people are sitting on it. At least against lefties you're more likely to Jam and shatter the bat.

Not saying you are since we haven't seen you play, but my general word of advice when it comes to Mo: Don't spam his cutters.

I think part of the problem with his card is everyone saw him a million times during events to prestige him

I light him up every time I face him. So I second this.

My Sig Mo has under a 3.00 ERA and the prestige Mo has over a 5.00 ERA. Ive used both for over 100 innings in RS and events. The card is good but for some reason the prestige has given up more runs, blown more saves, and has more loses. It really is just a weird thing but in the end I still enjoy using the card at every opportunity I can lol

I have faced this guy like maybe twice in over a hundred RS games I’ve played. When I did face him though he was easy to read and very underwhelming in my opinion

I think he's a must have... Has come through against some goons and has the stuff to get you that inning. Lot of the opinions (not necessarily from this thread) but others are warped and stuck in that event mindset where Mariano was getting smoked on All Star.

People look for the cutter, most relievers aren't good if you rely on the pitch everyone expects to come (I.E. like Chapman's fastball).

I've found that I use him a bit sparingly and he's yet to give up a run for me in an RS game. He got hit in events, but I feel like those play very different. I tend to start with a fastball in a place that should induce weak contact if hit. People look for the cutter and getting a straighter 4 seam usually means a foul ball, miss, or poor contact. From there I'll go some combo of sinker/slider/change up. I try and only use the cutter against 1 batter per 3 hitters I let see him. The less you use it, the more they'll wait on that pitch thinking you're going to throw it sometime. Finally when you do throw it, they've seen so much they typically overcompensate PCI movement and get weak contact.
