Poll: Do any WS Players use Zoom, Strikezone 3, Fish Eye, etc.?
-
Funny you brought this up cause I was thinking the same thing. I’ve played over 350 games of DD and mostly all on strike zone. I’ve been messing around with RTTS for a few weeks and use zoom. IMO, zoom plays really good with that mode just not sure how it is for DD as I’ve yet to try it. Hopefully MLBTS20 allows users of different cameras to be more competitive.

I started analyzing Zoom a bit more last night. I played three games on All Star. I recall that, in the last two, I came away with about 6-7 runs in each with 11-12 hits on Zoom. I was able to do that using random players that I don't normally play with as well, so the results were positive.
I need to see how Zoom fairs on Hall of Fame and Legend. I played a few games with Zoom on legend this past weekend but can't recall the results.

Do you play on a monitor or TV? I have a PS4 pro hooked up to a 55” 4K tv and zoom is good to hit with in RTTS. I play most of my DD RS games on a 27” monitor with a standard ps4 and I find it harder to pick up the ball with zoom than SZ. I’d love to hear what people say about this topic.

Was never a WS player, but as soon as I quit worrying about winning or losing H2H and just played for fun offline, I switched to Zoom because I like the look better. But if I was out to make the WS each season I would probably buy a monitor and play on strike zone.

I play on a 27" BenQ monitor.

My highest is about 970 on my main account. Low 900s on my other accounts. I primarily use strike zone but agree a lot of the others are more fun. I’ve used the show 15, zoom, and catcher high all with some success but usually return to strike zone when I need a win. I’d love to get better with the others because I like to see the batter but I have trouble with offspeed pitches with all other cameras
-
I can only hit if I’m on strike zone with wedge pci. Otherwise I’m lost at the plate
-
I switched back to strike zone last night after playing on zoom for about five days straight. Needless to say, I did FAR better with strike zone.
I think I'm going to stick with the general consensus on strike zone being the most effective way to hit at higher levels. Other cameras can be more fun, and you can certainly hit with those cameras, but, in my opinion, hitting at the highest level requires use of the strike zone camera.
On to MLB the Show 20 (with strike zone camera)!

I use Strike Zone 3. I would think that the Fish Eye camera would create the appearance of an even bigger ball as it nears home plate. That could create a lot of over aggressive swings, but with practice, it could create better vision habits in seeing the ball quickly upon release from the pitcher. I may try it out now that I think about it. I have been playing only versus CPU as long as I've had MLB The Show 19, so I'm not a WS player, by the way.

I feel the game plays a lot different versus the CPU. Hitting is much smoother than online, which is likely because of internet connection, lag, etc.
Strike zone 3 isn't bad, but I had more success with zoom.
One of my methods of hitting involved locking down the pitcher's release point and tracking the ball from there. I found that this it much more difficult to do with extended camera views, which is why I went back to strike zone.

Imo the best strategy is to just use strike zone so the pci looks really big and just center swing. Don’t aim n earn at all just put the pci in the middle n her fluke hrs

"Yeah, but I will erase those if you hit them against me."

I hadn't thought about the smoother play offline. Thank you. Do you think there are camera views for hitting that are more compatible for online play to reduce chances of lag?
I just played with my Diamond Dynasty team on hall of fame versus the CPU controlled Mets. I did change the hitting view for this game from the usual Strike Zone 3 to Fish Eye 2, which is a first for me. The CPU pitcher was Stephen Matz, who does not have a traditional fastball, but I still timed up Jeurys Familia's faster pitches in relief later in the game. I won 9-1 and multiplied my usual hit total by 3x. I went 5 for 5 with both of the first two hitters in my lineup (98 Pedroia and 99 Baez). I only drew one walk (I try for at least 3 per game), and I think Fish Eye 2 allowed me to make solid contact on pitches out of the center of the zone more often.
Fish Eye 2 is probably going to allow a few more base hits to the opposite field per game (as opposed to Strike Zone 3 which I think forces more pull side hitting ideas because it's much closer to the pitcher), and more runs scored as the opposing pitcher's confidence decreases.

I think the camera view for reduced lag (if it's at all possible) for online game play would have to be strike zone. Even if you're not reducing lag, you're still seeing the ball a lot better out of the pitcher's hand, at least in my opinion.
My general theory about the extended camera views was that they provided for better hit results. It seemed that I had harder hit balls more consistently on those cameras than with strike zone. However, after going back to strike zone, I found that wasn't the case--I hit much better on strike zone than on zoom, for example.
One thing extended cameras do, I think, is get you swinging earlier than normal when you go back to strike zone. After playing for about five days on zoom, I noticed that I had much better timing when I went back to strike zone. I think the extended camera does have the effect of readjusting your timing with strike zone, if you find yourself swinging late a lot.

SZ2 for me. SZ is just a little too close and I also don’t feel I can judge low pitches as well. It all comes down to personal preference and what works for you.
-
Strike zone 2 and no PCI for me. Topped out at 1000 ranking. I'd say a slightly above average player. Hopefully '20 separates the talent even more
-
I mainly use SZ 2 or SZ high now. But before that I used offset zoom. Personally I think it’s the only other cam you can try and be competitive with but also be farther back. You don’t see all of your player, but you can actually tell more who your using. Give it a try and see. Being closer though will always be better overall pitch by pitch

I'm trying to transition from strike zone camera to the zoom camera. I just find the game more enjoyable when you can actually see the batter.
My best RS rating was 997. I finished 947 last season while dabbling with new hitting cameras. I used to utilize a strike zone hitting camera with the PCI turned off. I'm not wanting to lose ground due to the transition, so I'm curious as to how many similarly-ranked players use a hitting camera that's not strike zone. If anybody uses a non-strike zone camera, any tips for making the adjustment would be appreciated!
I use Zoom Offset more often than Strike Zone and to me ZO is more enjoyable than SZ, better overall camera than Zoom but not as good as SZ for hitting purposes. When I have the time to play, I do make WS in both cameras. And I do say both because there are some pitchers I can't hit on SZ. Chris Sale is unhittable to me while using SZ but easier on ZO for whatever reason.

I used Offset Zoom for most of 17 and 18. Always made WS when had the time. Zoom is a bit farther away but it shouldn't be an obstacle to prevent you from getting to WS.

I've been a consistent WS player since MLB 16 and I have religiously used Fish Eye the entire time because I wanted to be able to see the batter. Yesterday I started playing around with Strike Zone 3 and had a lot of success with it, so much that I'll probably switch to it full time. It's a good compromise, you still see 90% of the batter but it's also a lot more zoomed in the Fish Eye.
