SDS - Can we get Solo Battles in 21?
-
I mostly play RS but feel that every year the amount of toxic players grow & grow and it’s reached the point that I just want to play the cpu....But other than the few moments that are out there & the occasional conquest map that gets dropped, What is there to do offline? Seems to me they need a weekly Solo Battles mode like they have in MUT.
-
I just can’t state this enough...I HATE playing people. They are one of two things - Either ridiculously better than me and that makes me furious or they are toxic and hold R2, bunt cheese, ect....I’m just over playing people.
-
Last year there was a Signature Team "mission" where you had to beat the all time squads of all the teams to get some cards.
And If I remember correctly a few years ago Team Affinity was tied to beating the CPU at certain levels unlocking cards.
But I do agree, we need more single player full game options and not just vs CPU, something to work towards. -
I agree 100%. You build a team and there's nothing to do with it other than online. At least fix online play so pitch speeds are accurate and consistent so it can be playable.
-
Every year i agree with your notion of hating the toxic players online. Honestly other than the occasional dashboard its not been horrible. However the lag this year is unbearable. Everyone loads up on 102mph guys because the connection is so bad it looks like 125. Yeah i can hit it, if i sell out and pray. 102 vs CPU on legend isnt as bad as ot is online on AS.
I want more solo stuff and nothing special like Prestige for online only. Then you will never see me again. I rarely if at all played online for 18 and was happy about it. But would love more to do offline, and dont give me that Showdown [censored], that isnt my DD cards.
-
You could always start an offline franchise and use the legends and flashbacks on rosters. Set all the rosters the way you'd like and then start a franchise. The only thing you'd be missing is the juiced stats going over 99. That's an option. If that isn't something that seems fun, what exactly are you hoping to do with your team or what do you feel like you're missing from DD vs CPU that isn't available in offline franchise? If it's the ability to use your created uniform, then that is a problem. Just trying to help out.

That is not the point. He wants to build a team the same way you do, through playing the game.
Would you be interested in DD if on Day 1 you were to have a full 99 squad and nothing left to grind for?
No.
The answer is not fire up franchise mode, the answer is to give people that chose not to play online more to do with the actual squad they have put together. -
Sometimes I think it's a blessing that I suck at this game, because playing at the lower levels of RS I almost never run into all the toxicity and cheesing everyone complains about. 99% of the time I get a straight up game against someone who's pretty close to an even match.
I'm not sure if weaker players aren't smart enough to learn all the exploits or they just know they'll probably never make world series so they don't have the same hyper competitive win at all costs mentality as players at the higher tiers, but my experience with RS has been mostly positive.
Events are where online can sometimes get annoying, but it's not like your record matters there so if I run into a toxic player I just quit and move on.

I play in the 500-700 range (I’m perfectly capable of being 800+ I just don’t play RS much) and I don’t see it there either. It happens once every like 50 games. People just over exaggerate that it happens all the time because they ran into 1 person that cheesed

I did not take it that way at all.
But whenever an offline player posts something about being able to utilize their team more, you will 100% get the "go play franchise" response.
Without the offline community we would not have a game to play.
It is time SDS gives them something more to do with their DD team other than Conquest.
Bring back stat grinds for TA, Bring back Vs CPU games for Team Affinity.
There used to be more things to do in years past for the offline player to do with their DD team. -

I don't have any lag problems online. I think its just your internet.

There used to be more things to do in years past for the offline player to do with their DD team.Sure, I get all that. That's why I said "what exactly are you hoping to do with your team". I'm legit interested in what people want to do offline with their DD team. I play offline with mine the same way everyone else can right now. What are actual ideas?
Yes, stat grinds were a thing in 16, 17, and 18 to some extent, but you're still doing the same thing, you're playing meaningless games vs the CPU. The same way you play meaningless games vs the CPU to get TA innings or the smaller stat missions now.
I want to hear something outside the box ... maybe a season mode where you can build your team and play against CPU versions of other online players. Basically an expanded version of the extra innings stuff.
Did people like the sig team missions from last year?
More full conquest map missions that require less tedious stuff and longer games too where your player stamina is affected?
Yes, I wanted a real response to be helpful and have a discussion, so what are some actual cool ideas?? -

There used to be more things to do in years past for the offline player to do with their DD team.Yeah except the majority of the community doesn't want long grinds offline. We play an ONLINE game mode to PLAY ONLINE. The majority of the people who play DD don't want the best players to be locked behind the walls of hours of CPU grinding. If they were to do something like solo Battles and just give packs, prices drop a good amount, nothing drastic, but prices are honestly pretty normal rn, except for all of the mike trout inflation on lower cards. But I know the MAJORITY( I emphasize majority so you guys don't complain I said all) of people don't want hours of grinding for good cards that are only attainable through playing the CPU.
-

If there was a stat grind, the games would not be meaningless. You could be pursuing two or three seperate missions per game. That way the numbers you are putting up mean something.
You will never replicate the expierence of beating an actual human vs the CPU. But SDS has failed in providing more things to do. They have removed things.
Keep online play as it is, that way the online player would never have to deal with CPU games if they chose not to.Did people like the sig team missions from last year?
I really liked them until they revealed A-Gon as one of the final cards. At that point I lost all interest. That was not SDS's fault, it was mine. I personally cannot stand A-Gon.
They really cannot add much other than bring back old modes/missions.
I think it was 17 (maybe 18) you needed to beat the CPU 3 times to complete TA (Rook, Vet and All-Star) That right there is whopping 90 full games against the CPU. -

I never suggested we change the way online players earn cards.
The entire premise of my response was for SDS to give the offline player more to do with their DD team other than conquest.
As I said earlier bring back needing to beat the CPU at diffrent levels to earn TA.
Or include more stat missions in TA.
These are all in ADDITION to all of the exisiting methods.
RS and BR rewards should never be available to strictly offline players (other than on the market). -
I think it was 17 (maybe 18) you needed to beat the CPU 3 times to complete TA (Rook, Vet and All-Star) That right there is whopping 90 full games against the CPU.
You're right when you say the game isn't meaningless in the sense that the stats matter, but the game itself is meaningless for a lot of stat grinds. Winning the game isn't always important, it's getting the hits, K's, HR, etc. that are important. That means that those games feel meaningless and when said objective is complete you end up quitting or bunting out if the game has to be completed.
If we really want to make offline DD something to actually do, there has to be something driving it more than an accumulation of stats. That's why I'm saying, add some sort of single season or playoff bracket where you're picking other people's DD team to go up against, but CPU controls them and plays to their style like extra innings does.
I'm an in between player. I like the competitiveness of playing people, but I don't care for DD. I'd rather play in online leagues. Those DD style leagues offer a pretty good option for people wanting to avoid the "toxic" or "cheesing" DD players. Heck, I saw a guy post in here the other day about a league that people use classic pitching and directional hitting to make it more catered to players ratings instead of user's abilities. This is a perfect type of solution for people that may want to jump into the online a bit, but avoid the garbage play style.

The answer is not fire up franchise mode, the answer is to give people that chose not to play online more to do with the actual squad they have put together. If online players could play with whatever team we wanted whenever we wanted....we would never even enter DD. You think I care about check marks and experience points? I want to use players I like, and if I didn’t have to wait 8 months and grind out 1,000,000 stubs, I honestly can’t think of one reason I would choose to actively do that like offline players do.
Online franchise was actually taken away and redesigned so we can’t do the exact thing you said nobody has interest in. Obviously SDS noticed some people had interest in using whoever, whenever online or offline without spending money or grinding.
-
I always love when this kind of stuff is brought up that people are always so quick to make it an offline vs online debate. I get it, you have to be connected to the internet to play this mode but that does not make it an online mode in the sense of having to play online games. I would be willing to bet there is a lot more offline only players than people believe there is.
I brought up the squad battles a few times and think it would be a great way to use your dd team in a meaningful way. I like the SB in NHL because of how trash that game plays online and how pathetic the people are that play the win at all costs way there. I would love it with baseball even if you dont get much in the way of a reward for it. In HUT I think it's been packs and coins. Not sure they couldnt do that in baseball at all. I personally think it would be a huge addition.
-
Those of you that are saying you rarely run into a toxic player - Awesome. Good for you. Unfortunately they make up 1/3 of my games online. I honestly think 1/3 of my games are against toxic players...Another 1/3 are against guys that are ridiculously better than me where nomatter what I throw or where it’s - homerun, homerun, homerun. And the other 1/3 are good, competitive games.....So 66% of the time I’m not having fun playing against people online. That is crazy. And that is why I just want to be able to play offline & for SDS to make it fun with something like solo battles.
