Mantle probably should’ve been this years honus

Marketing wise I’d be fine if they showed him but never blantantly said he’d be the honus reward, because imo any card they reveal this year as the honus will be nothing compared to mantle. Mantle may be the greatest card in the history of the show.

Top 3 best for sure. #1 was probably 99 Mariners A-Rod.

Go back and look they weren't that similar and using zone switch hitting is pretty irrelevant.
Even prestiged Mantle isn't as good of a fielder (Mays 98, Mantle 90) lower steal rating (90 to 83) meaning when stealing Mays should get better jumps, add up their hitting ratings (Contact, Power, vision) and Mays 571 Mantle 559
Those are Prestige Mantle ratings vs Mays in a game that there wasn't an ability to be prestiged, if you could prestige Mays last year it's not even close
Mays is the best "Real player" that we've ever seen in MLB the show

I really miss having Willie Mays in center field. Mantle is great and all, but there was just something so special and exciting about Mays that Mantle just doesn’t seem to have.
Willie has my vote.

Don’t forget Mays never got the stupid flailing animation on balls over his head because he has the catch animation. Such an underrated part of his card.

It is just plus 3 to everything. Plus you cannot compare attributes in years past games accurately. If so all the cards from 19 would have just got the same atts in 20. Mays atts will be different this year as well.

I disagree. Mantle beats May's. His swing is better and hes a switch hitter. More closely resembles Peepee Alazar.

Mays moves in the outfield like Bo Jackson moved in Tecmo bowl.

Exactly... Don't get me wrong, Mays was and will be amazing but to me Mantle is basically a switch hitting Mays. That's where he has the edge IMO.

When did they do this?! I've been dying for a good Mariners A-Rod

Beltran could do it on top of Everest in the middle of a blizzard.

It would have worked in one sense because Mantle's Prime card is by most accounts the most famous Topps card in history.
But Mantle (like Mays and Ruth before him and Aaron after him) is a major sales driver whose mere presence in the game can really get folks excited. Wagner, despite him having the most famous baseball card ever and a Top 10 Career WAR, wasn't going to sell a ton of discs.
... On the flip side, if we're using "Famousness of a baseball card" to help determine who the collection will be, then Billy Ripken would have to be considered a heavy favorite. (Google it, kids)
