Most people have noticed the silver bat on the market - the Louisville Maple DJ2 Captain. It's description tells the story of how the bat model was named so after Derek Jeter retired in 2014 after using the bat his entire career.
Eagle eyed players will have also noticed there is a diamond bat called "2k1 Maple" by Sam Bat. In this bat's description it states it's the bat holds the records. 73 HR in a season, 762 in a career, blah blah blah. But it specifically never says Bonds or references him aside from the numbers. Just like when you play RTTS the game never says Pete Rose. The records held by people SDS doesn't hold the rights to are always simply the year of the record and the team they played for.
I'm betting because of the DJ2 bat description and the lack of other names else where in the game that it means SDS have Derek Jeter's rights.
Who else wants a tin foil hat?
They don’t mention Bonds or Rose by name because of the hugely negative stigma those two both carry. You do not need to own their rights just to include their names. A fact cannot be trademarked or copyrighted, so they have every right to say “Pete Rose is the MLB all-time hit leader,” but they choose not to because he is also the MLB all-time d-bag leader.
Is the gambling issue really that bad anymore? it's legal just about everywhere in the country now, and mlb itself now has official partnerships with sports betting companies.

He was banned for gambling? I thought MLB just finally had enough of that haircut.

Hard pass on Jeter (and the tin foil hat)

By no means am I going to claim to be an expert on such matters, but doesn't this fall somewhere in the 'name and/or likeness' category? I'm basing my entire logic on that.
For the record, I really don't want it to be him.

They couldnt possibly inflate Jeters attributes enough to make him that kind of reward. Clutch only goes up to 125.
-
Here is what I'm thinking... Multiple card rewards based on several collections. All rewards will be record holders (or former record holders) of high profile single season or carrer records.

Yeah I can’t imagine doing a collection like that for a SS with silver defense.

A fact cannot be copyrighted or trademarked, so they don’t need to own anything just to say that Bonds hit 73 HRs in one season, for example.

So 2 things, first as much as I like Jeter and wish he was in the game, he’s not a great enough player to warrant the collection reward. Plus I think he may be the cover guy next year due to the game coming out on multiple platforms and he’s about as sellable of a name you can find.
Second the reason why the bat dj2 is because it’s his model bat. Louisville owns the rights to the bat and Jeter probably gets a royality of the bat sales for having his name attached to it, it’s literally the Louisville Derek Jeter 2 bat. This has become popular with bat makers so that it can sell more bats, marucci is probably the biggest company that does this like the ap5 (Puljos) and posey28 bat models. SDS has the rights to the bat and they can put why the bat is named that way, because Louisville has the rights to use jeters name in connection with the bat. The sam bat 2k1 is just a model of a bat with no specific ties to one individual player, meaning SDS has the right to the bat model and linage, but not able to put a specific name associated to the bat.

I hope you're right because I have a ton of stubs for cards I bought that I will never use just for this collection. If I were to sell those off I would have a boat load to do whatever I want with.
-
Jeter would be a huge disappointment if he is the Honus this year. Wow
-
0.00% chance its Derek Jeter.

Babe Ruth

I still say it is Ted Williams.

Jeter's legendary .210/.338/.306/.644 line with RISP in the postseason redefines clutch

I think it’s gonna be Babey Ruth
-
My tin foil hat prediction is it’s Negro Leagues players. Would be incredibly cool, all new cards that people would spend/lock in stubs for, and fits the times.
My normal hat prediction is Mays or Babe is the ultimate reward.

Roger Maris? The original chase for the the home run record.
