Watch out MLB..The Marlins are coming
-
So many great players have passed through Miami too. Even if it's just for a year, before management boots them out after broken promises
For a while especially after 1997 it seemed like the majority of the All Star teams were former Marlins.
I know it wasn't true, but it seemed that way.1997 was built to secure a stadium and when that fell through the owner sold off the team's assets.
2003 was lightning in bottle. Built on some of the pieces of the 97 fire sale (Lee & Lowell), an Acuna like generational talent Miggy. And a Hall of Famer on a prove it deal, Pudge. The GM had the guts to trade the previous year's #1 overall pick (Adrian Gonzalez) for Ugi Urbina.
And the cigar chomping lifer Jack Mckeon tied it all together.
Dont forget Beckett, Pierre, Luis Castillo and the return of Mr. Marlin, Jeff Conine. -

That little 8 run 8th I believe did the fish in.
That was not nice

And don't forget Castillo and Pierre! 2 of the most valuable pieces that year. And of course Dontrelle...

Pierre and Castillo gave the Yankees fits.
It was a very underrated team. It was a shame they were never allowed to defend their title. -

I'd have serious doubts they'd be able to take on that powerhouse Cardinals team of Pujols, Rolen and Edmonds.. and they even got destroyed by the Red Sox.. 04 was the Sox destiny..

I agree with you 100% that Sox team was awesome. I loved that team.
Pedro and Schilling (should be in the HOF), Papi and the idiots led by former Marlin Kevin Millar. -

Pedro and Schilling (should be in the HOF), Papi and the idiots led by former Marlin Kevin Millar.Ya, that was the most enjoyable postseason for me, non-Jays related. I was a Red Sox fan for 1 month of my life, and it was a fun month.

Good job scoring runs against AAA pitchers after our main lineup took you behind the woodshed.

Atlanta isn't used to playing without fans. Marlins are. Advantage Miami
Wait, is this the same Atlanta we're talking about?
"Can't sell out a playoff game" Atlanta?
"Relocate to the middle of a Freeway interstection because our fans are too racist to drive downtown" Atlanta?
"28-3" Atlanta?
"Joe Burrow threw more TDs in the Dome last year than Matt Ryan" Atlanta?Atlanta INVENTED fan apathy. Miami is just learning from the master.

9 runs in 2 innings with only 1 of the starting 8 on the field (Freddie) and gets walked off by a guy that got signed a day earlier! Score!
Braves Win! Braves Win!

Should’ve signed Matt Adams

So you are saying that the Braves scrubs scoring 9 runs on the Marlins scrubs is a reason to celebrate?
Matt Adams is a legit professional hitter and was only available because the Mets decided that they have a surplus of DH types. The 8 run 8th came off pitchers that had ERAs of 5.77 & 6.53 last year and wont make the Marlins roster.
The walkoff was off a minor league scrub....LOL
Just remember it was 8-1 when Mattingly emptied the bench. -

We are fine. We need Villar, Dickerson and Aguilar to produce so we can off load them to a desperate team with pennant dreams. Keep acquiring young talent, eventually some of it will pan out.

How that guy was allowed to ruin not one but 2 franchises (the Marlins will recover though) is mind boggling. I agree it's a huge win that he is finally gone.
How?
There are alot of moving parts:- Montreal didnt build Loria a stadium
- John Henry wanted out of Miami after he couldn't get a stadium
- With both Boston and Florida Available, MLB pounced.
- Loria sold the Expos to MLB, who already had a buyer lined up in the Lerners
- John Henry sold the Fish to Loria, who believed he could get the govt to build him a stadium
- John Henry being rid of the Marlins bought one of the flagship MLB franchises, The Red Sox.
MLB wanted Henry and Lerner in the fold and were willing to tolerate Loria to get them.
Loria's 1 World Series was pure luck. He fired his first manager (Torborg) and brought in McKeon and the team caught fire. It was lightning in a bottle.Remember Loria was the guy that fired Joe girardi because Joe refused to listen to his advice IN GAME!!!!
Loria absolutely blew and love what they have done with Jeter now in the drivers seat. Seems like this is what it takes nowadays, tanking, trading, and rebuilding. Astros did it just before they came over to the AL. Cubs did it before the Kris Bryant era. Being lifttime fan of the Marlins I am starting to get used to is.
Wouldnt say pure luck with the 03 win - they had an extremely solid team in front of them arguably best rotation in baseball at that time.

Bro, I am a Marlins lifer as well (since Charlie Hough threw the fist pitch in franchise history), but a rotation of
Beckett
Penny
Pavano
Willis
Redmanwould never be confused with the best rotation in the MLB. Not when the Cubs had Wood Prior, Zambrano & Clement. The Yanks had Moose, Clemens, Pettite, Wells and Weaver.
That was 2 superior rotations off the top of my head. There was some luck and the flukiness of a bunch of guys, particularly pitchers, catching fire in the 2nd half and sustaining t through the playoffs.

Regardless of who was on the field, it was still major league caliber guys, if they weren't, they wouldn't be there. Glad to see some fight! Momentum is huge going into a short season like this and being able to come back, with any type of players, from 7 down is huge and can go a long way. So if you can come back from that many down with folks that will be on your taxi squad against another teams taxi squad folks, that's huge and yea, a reason to celebrate!
And like the announcers mentioned, if you are playing in a game 3 days before the season starts, then your organization thinks a lot of you, if not why would you be out there?
Marlins are going to be good/relevant again, just not yet.
