Monitor Difference
-
Finally purchased a BenQ 24 inch. Saw talks on here awhile back about the difference it makes to play on a monitor, and was wondering what experiences you guys have had. What makes it better than playing on my 65 inch TV? Prolly a little late to ask haha but needed a monitor for work anyways!
Thanks

Well the biggest difference is input lag. But depending on how old your tv was/is, those specs between the two can be pretty close. Most monitors have about 8-10ms of input lag while newer tv’s in game mode can be 15-20ms. I think having a smaller screen can be helpful by having you focus more on the incoming pitch.
-
The difference is in the response times and as a result in the input lag. A monitor refreshes the images significantly faster than a big TV, and therefore you're able to react sooner.
-
I’ve got a monitor coming tomorrow, too. A 27” Asus from Best Buy. Couldn’t find info on the input lag, but it’s a 1 ms response time and 144 hz refresh rate. Should be much better, regardless, of the old 47” Samsung tv I’ve been on.
Not to fond of having to sit so close though.
Anyway, are there any out of the box settings I need to change when I get it? Am I just going to be super early on everything now? I was always early on offspeed and breaking pitches anyway. The trouble for me was the time to react to good fastballs. How long is the adjustment period roughly?
-
I have 55 inch TV. I sit about 3 feet away and I still can’t see the ball for my life.
-
King Teepz was telling me on Twitter it’s a world of a difference.
-
It is a huge difference when seeing the ball come in but don't buy the monitor thinking that you will all the sudden become a hitting god. You can track the curve of the ball and path of the ball better but you will still need the timing and placement of the PCI to be good.
-
It's the decrease in input lag. What you do on the sticks transfers more in line with what's happening on the screen closer to real time.
-
That also depends on the input lag of said monitor as some are much better than others. I really wanted a BenQ EL2870U but amazon kept delaying the shipment so I did some research and settled on the Alienware AW2521HFL. IPS monitor but still has 1ms response time and very low input lag.

So if I got a monitor I would just be able to smash my PCI to the bottom of the strike zone on a pitch down the middle even faster!?!? haha
I won't get a monitor because I hate how basic online gameplay (allstar) is forcing people to upgrade technology just to catch up to a fastball.

All i know is that all the top 50 players use kontrol freak and a monitor and every single player so far has said they have improved using a monitor. Sad to say but for people like me who will never invest in buying one just for the show it gives me more of a reason to be like a modern day baseball fan, caring less and less about the show as the years go by up until the point i just dont return.

They do all use a monitor, but they certainly don't all use kontrol freeks. Some do, yes. But definitely not all.

Well either way the majority use both and every single one uses a monitor. Thats fine i mean get it if you want it because you will get better no question. Up until the point where idk 5 years from now everyone has the same concept of playing this game and then the next wave hits where its well you need this up to date 2025 5k UHD Delux no lag monitor to compete. Idk i miss the days of mlb 2015 where everyone used a tv and u didnt need a monitor or at least it wasnt discovered yet to be on a balanced level field for every single player.

I hear you, but it's not just a trend for MLB The Show. Every FPS console player is using a monitor nowadays as well, because it simply gives you an edge. Better hardware will put you ahead of the competition (or evens the field) and that won't ever change.

I was using the same old projector for 13 years and it prolly had around a 30 ms lag input. I was still able to make World Series but not with ease. It finally broke down and I got a new 2020 version with a 10ms input lag. OMG my game is 10x better now. I made it to World Series easily. The input lag really is key and getting a monitor is the best of the best

You are correct sir.

Will it help me win showdown every time?

I bought a 27' MSI monitor a few weeks ago. The biggest difference I've seen so far is the ability to recognize pitches better. I have a 1MS response time, and my refresh rate is 165. I don't have the lag that I had on my TV. (at least not as often) I still suck, but that's because I suck playing H2H, but I've noticed I've been playing better since I got the monitor.
