I'm fine with directional being allowed in offline modes only but, it should be eliminated from what SDS is calling competitive online play.
As @CalisGW stated previously, in fairness to those who may have a physical impairment that prohibits the more manually intensive hitting options being accessible, removing directional from online play is not just. However, the game could avoid mixing players of dissimilar input modes.
Maybe so but, they could literally stop rewarding directional hitters with solid contact on balls below the zone simply because they hold up and hit square.

If directional hitting was advantageous as people make it out to be, I’d definitely use it.
Until then, I’ll continue to use zone and couldn’t care less if my opponent uses directional.
-
I use zone as well, however; it's no secret that the combination of All-Star pitches being sucked into the zone or to a meatball benefits directional hitters way more than it should. Directional should not be in any mode that is considered competitive. Ideally SDS, would address pitching and make that input actually matter but, they wont.

I've found it helpful for some moments, or perhaps I really haven't but got lucky when I mixed it up after getting frustrated. That's the argument for directional as far as I'm concerned, but I don't really see any harm that would require arguments.

I'm with OP, I think zone hitting should be enforced in every online game mode. How you play offline, that's your business. But online the playing field should be equal to everyone. I can spew out a hundred arguments why I think this needs to happen, but I'm not interested in having that debate again. Especially after reading through this thread. Just know that OP is not alone in his opinion, although I wish he included Analog hitting along with Directional hitting in the title; anything that's not zone hitting.

PCI hitters have a great advantage. I am not sure what the complaint is.

I think a lot of you guys would be surprised by the results you could get with directional if you were very selective.

Fine, then if you do this then it needs to be zone with analog stride input. No button input which is just a step above directional.

I like zone with analog stride I can't play the game no other way.

If someone is taking to many pitches it's a red flag to me then i'll confirm my suspicion by throwing curveballs which they generally swing for a lot and i'll rinse repeat with a high fastball out of the zone.

Wow, people these days just want to be selfish and not adapt.
You get use to pitching for a certain way ( zone hitters ). You know what you can’t pitch to and what you can. In comes directional and changes that. Forces you to adapt and you get pissy!
Ever thought to consider that just maybe it’s more like baseball than you thought. No team is the same. Take twins for example last year. They hit the most homers as a team. Do you think that stating pitchers didn’t try to change their approach to how they pitched to that team ?
Same can be said about a pitcher. Teams choke up on the bat and react differently when the starting pitcher of the day is a 100 mph thrower. Conversely they change they aporoach when it’s a knuckleball pitcher. R.A. Dickey won Cy Young due to this.
People complaining about directional lack the ability or the effort to adapt to directional batting which is the inferior style. Too much effort to actually have to think and pitch differently.
