If you lack the presence of mind to put on a shift in a specific situation, or if you're simply too lazy to do the defensive adjustments, I feel like you should be burned by those balls through the infield holes every single time. But now, the game bails you out by putting an auto-shift on basically 80% of the players in the game, making those well hit pulled balls into the shift ot lasers up the middle automatic outs. Those are great at bats with great swings being outs while my opponent did absolutely nothing for it. Another fine example of lowering the skill gap.
No doubt. I’ve been preaching this for a while now. The game shouldn’t hold your hand and apply the shift for you. If you have the presence of mind, based off of experience from that particular batter and you apply the shift, I’m all about it. Otherwise, leave it alone.

This just solidifies my position to all those trolls who simply say "turn off auto shift" if you want to avoid lefties with single-digit speed cheesing the bunt. If I do that then every good hit from there on out will make it through the gap where the shift would have been.

I didn't claim anything, I stated an opinion on something I don't like. You can disagree with me on that, that's totally fine. But don't come here acting like you're some mighty know it all who can school me on how to beat a shift. It's uncalled for since that was not my issue. My issue is that it's a strategy that should be utilized by the player, and not put on automatically to bail out all these lazy guys. Not sure why you say it's a generational thing either, you don't know a thing about me so most likely you don't know my age either. You're just trying to bait me some more and call me a troll in the meantime, while the real troll is you. You don't contribute a single thing around here, always trying to be a smartass.

Yeah the auto shift diminishes the value of some of the top end cards in the game.

Right now I believe you'd have to check the quirks of each batter and likely multiple times/game because people would forget who was and wasn't. I'm definitely not down for that nonsense.
I totally agree with this, anything that makes online play a snorefest of pausing is bad but I like the idea of manual shifting.

I totally agree with this, anything that makes online play a snorefest of pausing is bad but I like the idea of manual shifting.
If you've been playing this game for a while, and I know many people around here have, you know exactly who you might want to shift. And even then, you can pull a ball with literally any card in the game. Even if they have opposite field tendencies.

I don’t know. Are we sure that an out is not already decided on contact? If you hit a ground out or line out, the game just has the ball go to one of the fielders regardless of their position. I’ve seen shifts beaten, but rarely deliberately. And you’d think that the really good hitters could sit back and pepper the holes of the shift, but you just don’t see it with any regularity. Bunts to the short stop don’t count.
