Wondering if anyone can help me? I’ve had 100 GB speed for a while now, but my PlayStation only pulls about 20 to 40. I recently updated my Internet to 200 gig. I am still only pulling 45 through the Wi-Fi on my PlayStation. I pulled different speeds depending upon what I am on. My phone will test at 160 gig. But my laptop will only call about 80. And again my PlayStation is only getting about 40. What is going on? Why am I getting different speeds with each? Any ideas to help?

Try an RJ-45 cable wired and see what you pull? If there’s no difference I wouldn’t worry about it. Greater speeds will not help your case vs someone with a weak connection

It's the specs Sony used for the PS4. Nothing you can do about it. I run 1 Gig of internet speed, but PS4 is only pulling about 45-50 mbps on the wifi. If you have a PS4 pro, you can put it on the 5G network if your close enough to the router.

I have fiber connection. I think around 500-600 mbps. I'm pulling 339 down and 192 up. Look into port forwarding on your router. When you do make sure your IP address is static on your PS4 so it doesn't change. Ask your ISP what their DNS servers are because when I do a ping test to google 8.8.8.8 my response time is around 23 ms. When I ping test my ISP DNS servers the response time is around 8 ms. So I set my Primary and Secondary DNS servers to my ISP servers.

Serious question, not trolling: What are you doing on your PS4 that requires more than 20-40 down? Because online gaming does not. That's fast enough for things that require speed, like streaming and downloading things.

I ask because download speed is barely relevant for online gaming. 5 down is enough typically. Instead, you should be concerned with ping, having the correct NAT type and any bufferbloat added by upstream devices in your network.

What he said. The PSN xan only handle so much.

    I have 400mbps.

If I run wired, the PS4 hits at 250-260mbps. But if I run Wi-Fi, I only get about 40mbps. And the PS4 is only 3 inches from my modem/router.

My old (personal) laptop hits at 45 thru Wi-Fi; but my work CPU hits at 175; because the wireless card in the old laptop only supports up to 50mbps.

You can't get am exact speed test on your phone; because it's a different type of wireless card. Also, some sites will give fluctuating data. One site I used to use gave me cell at 45mbps. The newer site hits at 225mbps.

But depending on how far away the ps4 is from the modem/router; you may benefit from being hardwired.

I am able to connect a wire and get a much better number. I've done it in the past and it worked that way. I haven't tried since I upgraded to the 200 mbps speed. I typically don't stay wired because I have issues where I get disconnects from the server when doing that wired. It doesn't disconnect when I'm on wifi. (If someone could help me with that little issue, I'd love it).

How would getting the same speed as wifi not lead to worry? It's not pulling near the speed it should? Also, I'm not so much worried about my connection with other players. I'm worried about getting the most out of what I pay for.

Not sure what I'm doing with changing the port forwarding on the router. I'd have to take a look at that I guess. Not sure how to do what you're talking about, necessarily.

I don't have a PS Pro. It's a regular. So, @vox_pestis you're saying that anything above 5 is a waste for the Playstation. I figured a certain number faster would help. How do you check ping? How do I make sure I have the right NAT type?

So the Playstation 4 can only handle so much? What is that number? And does having any more than 5 make a difference?

@Psycho__Kinetic It sounds like the same deal as I have. I would love to be able to maximize what I get out of each device, if there is a way. I want to maximize the PS4 but I'm also asking because I want to get the most out of all my devices, laptop included. Again, I can wire, but for some reason I get disconnects when I'm wired. Never happens when I'm on wifi.

The PS4 can run up to 1 gig, but that will never happen. PS network will choke down your speed. Also, if you have a lot of people using the router, that will slow it down even more. Best bet is to use a 5G wire. Since you don't have the pro, you'll probably never see it above 50 mbps.
