Every time I select it, I cringe in fear upon release now. If I can get it in that sweet spot, it works on both lefty or righty batters; but it seems most of the time it's more just a slower fastball that doesn't move off the sweet spot enough that gets crushed. It's like that one golf shot that keeps you coming back when you get it right; but as an amateur golfer I really shouldn't be taking that shot. But I keep getting seduced into throwing it. Is it just my "Eleanor" or do others have this problem as well?

How do you actually throw a cutter? Is it supposed to cut in? Away?

Cutter moves away from the pitcher's arm side...

Throw a cutter inside to a batter so that it cuts further inside. Most batters see its slower and swing at it. U can also try to dot the outside line with it by setting it up just outside the strike zone and it will cut into a strike. Don’t throw it low or up or in the middle of the strike zone, or bye bye

The cutter is to be used as an equalizer against opposite handed hitters by pitching it in on the hitter's hands. Best usually to aim starting in the zone, and ending up inside.
You can throw it high or low inside but usually more effective up and in.
You can try to backdoor it, but it's risky. Usually only works with high movement cutters.

I rarely ever throw it to same side hitters unless you surprise them but even then.. only with good cutters

Backdoor cutter can be a good pitch but only pitchers with really good control attempt it, and even still sometimes will leak one over the middle.

Agree with each of these. I suppose I need to pay more attention to who has good control with the pitch; even when I try to use it exclusively up/in on the hands, with good release it just seems to sit up and middle of the zone too often. That is not a 'the game forced it there' comment, more thinking it's simply a pitch certain pitchers can't control very well and prob shouldn't be utilized as much in those cases.

If they ever get around to it again, a high end Orel Hershiser cutter is my fav.. miss 99 Orel from a couple years ago..

If placement were more consistent, you can really, have fun with pitch sequencing. I like to work circle changes with cutters or work 2-seamers with cutters.

Maybe they'll get pitching up to snuff soon. If not, just have some fun using sequences to try to keep batters guessing. Good luck!

If your opponent has timed the four seam fastball, a cutter on the low and outside corner of the strike zone usually results in a roll over and an easy groundout. Talking about same-handed of course

I totally feel OP. Cutters circle change and 2-seam used to be dominate pitches. Now they too often feel like less effective pitches that magically appear in the exact middle of the plate. Meanwhile... at the hall of high sinkers...

The back door cutter and slider are so appealing because when done correct and your opponent sits and watches a called strike three rather than fouling it off for the 20th time is so rewarding. Problem is more often than not I end up missing my spot and cutting it right over the pipe.

Everyone else notice the CPU crushes cutters? I refuse to throw it in a showdown/conquest game, as I have given up so many home runs on it

I've actually had great luck with 87 Mariano Rivera so far this year. Finally gave up my first run with him the other night after 15+ innings in RS. The cutter can be effective but you have to be very precise and careful every time you throw it.

I love the cutter, but recently it's getting crushed for me. Dramatically different then even a few weeks ago for some reason.
