Between the online pausers, the bunters who exploit fielding, the slow pitching and a terrible hitting engine that rewards jammed over good contact? This is by far the worst year for this game. At least 18 was bearable and last year was a tiny step forward but this is absolute garbage. And yes I suck at the game and need to get gud, I already know.

I suck at the game too. I have been frustrated at this game too. I don't play online much, only 8 games online. Few games ago I stopped caring about winning. My online games have definitely been more enjoyable. I know there are some try hards out there but don't let it get to you.

    I don’t think I will. Even though I’m addicted.

Something changed with this last patch. Not directly because of the patch quality, but just all the changes in general that I am slow to adjust to. I am so screwed up now that nothing is very enjoyable. Hits and whiffs both surprise me, which is weird. I say “what? How? ... what?” Out loud to myself far too often. The swing feedback doesn’t seem to match what’s happening at the controller.

I used to be a good pitcher but this year I feel like a spectator with little control of placement and a tiny squeezed down strike zone. I’m slowly climbing above 4 era, which is embarrassing. I put a lot of time into the game but i think I’m drifting away.

The content is cool, I’ll probably peek in here or there. But Borderlands 3 is enjoyable and doesn’t make me feel this anxiety, so I’ll probably be there more.

This isn’t a farewell post, don’t bother with dumb comments. I’m directly answering OP.

Today after a disappointing ranked game I actually started thinking about making a baseball video game. I have no idea how to go about doing this but the demand for a baseball game based on user input is there.

If you ever pursue this idea let me know, I want in. I’ll code anything but NetCode, animations (including object collision logic) and graphics (not my strengths, I’m afraid).

Frontend stuff would be straightforward once a design is mapped out exactly as we want it to be, along with the gameplay logic including ball physics and AI.

Might take many years to get it off the ground though.

Have you ever played that super mega extreme baseball on the Xbox one? It looks weird, but I wonder if the guts are any good.

I have not. I was reminiscing about Süper Mario baseball recently though.

If you stripped away all the pitching confidence and batter clutch and all the other extraneous stats, I wonder how this game would play. There are too many factors that go into consideration on every pitch. It’s a wonder the game doesn’t explode when contact is made.

Boredom. I work at home now and it’s the only time I play it lol. After I’m done working or on my days off I don’t it much if at all.

As for the addiction. You ever see some girl thats like at level 10,000 on candy crush and plays like 6 hours a day and wonder how the hell somebody could sit there matching color titles for 25% of their day every day. Same kind of psychology Going on there as here.

spot on. all of the nonsense they've added like, like pitcher confidence, only leads to a random experience with online play. its amazing how you can be making great contact with guys and the ball seems to have negative exit velocities. but make poor contact on a pitch out of the zone and you find yourself standing on first.

ultimately, i just want gameplay that is consistent. but SDS has added so much random junk attributes in the game since 17 that of course an RNG driven experience is what we're left with.

Those stats could have their place: changing the difficulty of the input. Eg in meter pitching, size and speed of the meter, size of the ‘perfect’ pitch spot; in zone batting, size of the sweet spot (or bat), apparent speed the ball is coming, bat speed...

But, as we know, the general feeling is that they’re impacting the result instead 😞

Isn’t it sad that it’s come down to this? That people are discussing the option to build a new baseball game on the Shows forum? I’m a for it. Take out all of the under the hood garbage and make the game play straight up.

If you get lit up by someone, so be it. At least you know why. This franchise has become pathetic. The under the hood elements get worse and worse every year.

It’s only going to get worse with them going multi platform.

But the under the hood stuff is required to differentiate players and keep the game interesting. Otherwise it’s just Atari 2600 baseball with updated graphics.

It’s how the under the hood stuff is used that is the key to getting it right. And judging by the feedback on this forum, it ain’t used right.

Just for the record, I’m not supporting either argument that random outcomes exist or not. I’m not a good enough player to be able to assert either. I just play the game and hope I don’t stuff it up.

Its not even just online, but they find a way to make every mode very aggravating. Even conquest, the comeback logic/RNG even when expected is extremely annoying, when the AI wants to win THEY WIN. I somehow completely missed a pitch down the middle with good swing timing and Reggie Jackson for the SO, next batter, you guessed it, inning ending double play as usual when they need it. Then in the OF Jackson drops a fly ball, next batter, you guessed it, 3 run HR. Don't even get me started on pack scams and bs odds. i DESPERATELY need another baseball game on the market, this game blows. I miss the best baseball game ever made in MVP Baseball 2005. This unethical studio wouldn't have a chance if MVP had a current gen game

Borderlands is one of the best franchises out now, they don't skimp their fans for extra cash, no goofy AI designed to make you lose money and patience. Very generous DLC at a fair price. SDS needs to take notes

Yeah, I know people like to vent but complaining about “comeback logic” functionality is pointless. If I had to run a entertainment property that gets paid by Micro transactions, I would immediately figure out how to design in anything that gets people to stay engaged and make the Most purchases. If I didn’t, I’d rightfully be fired. If you wanted to push a change, you would have to start with the economic model.

Here’s the problem. If show changed to a prepaid season pass of say $40 over the top of the base game, the incentives would be different. My focus would be impress people with game enough to secure that one time fee. I bet we’d get a different gane more suitable to “serious” players, and less for casual gamers. But I would be shocked if that model would bring in anywhere near the revenue of the current model. There’s nothing unethical here, it’s just business.
