Stats - Misnomer for player attributes. “Check out his stats, he’s got 115 vision!”

Glitch - Name incorrectly given to a good player. “Mike Trout is a glitch! Who knew a 95 OVR card could be so good?”

Cheat Code - Similar to glitch. Used when people are surprised that a player excels at something they are good at. “Joey Gallo is a cheat code...who could’ve seen a bunch of homers coming with that 100+ power?”

Good/Good - The only PCI placement outside of Perfect/Perfect that warrants a base hit.

Perfect/Perfect - Home run every time.

Moments - Exercises created to cause misery on a personal level. They are self aware and understand weaknesses.

Comeback Logic - Poor attempt to deflect responsibility for giving up a lead in the late innings.

Broken - The state of MLB The Show after a game in which a player swings at 85% of pitches in the dirt and loses to their opponent.

I'd be totally ok with getting rid of friendly quit. There's really no reason for it. I never get one outside of the very beginning of the game, or after I've put up a few runs.

If a person starts a game, they should play the game. If they wish to leave the game, they should quit and take the L. If the game is 5 innings in and a team is winning but that person has to go take care of something in reality...they also should quit. You don't without playing the whole game. There are totally viable reasons for needing to leave a game early, but not really a single one that warrants another person saying, "Ok...let's let this not count."

I've even gotten messages where someone says something like, "Hey, I have an emergency I have to go take care of." I typically just ignore it and keep playing, and they don't quit...so either they lied or they don't know what an emergency actually is.

Moral of the story...a lot of people who play online are just trash people.

  • Content Discussion: Ranked Seasons
  • WiryHooligan22_PSNW WiryHooligan22_PSN

There's some preamble here, so if you want to skip to an idea I'm working out in real time, I've put some bold text where I start talking about it. If you feel like reading, here's a second content discussion post: Ranked Seasons is fine. It kind of is what it is.

Field a team, win games, eventually, hopefully you can get up to WS and get one of those beast rewards.

To be honest, it feels kind of stale. But what is there to really do? Not a lot. It's pretty straight forward.

Outside of Pennant Race and World Series, the rewards are pretty bunk. The levels between PR and WS get you at minimum, 2 gold cards and a bat skin. Then a couple of standard packs, which, let's be real...are rarely worth much.

Now, as for the format, overall, it's fine. Like I said above, it kind of is what it is.

I'd love to see some sort of shift in the rewards. Maybe bump the PR up a level, or add some sort of specialty pack with a higher chance of getting a decent card in between.

The rewards this year were pretty solid, and I'm sure I'll never taste that sweet, sweet Willie Mays, but I've barely sniffed WS this year. Only made it to CS once. The past 3 years, I consistently made it up to CS, but for some reason, I've just not played as well this year, or something. I think part of the reason is that it doesn't feel worth it to invest that much time. Especially with the amount of great cards in the game this year (how much better is Willie than Griffey, really?)

That said, there is one addition I would love to see in RS. I'll preface this by saying that it's likely not to happen, especially since Events exists. I would like to see a secondary RS that encourages less OP lineups. I'm not sure it's really that possible, I mean, events try to mitigate that, but often, it's easy enough to power your team down enough in lesser needed areas to lift up the lineup, rotation, and bullpen. But here's what I'm thinking:

Secondary Ranked, or what I'm going to call "Capped Rank" would be standard 9 inning games. Each season runs along the same time frame as regular RS with the same ST-WS structure.

This could go two ways: One, Capped Rank could have themes (but then, it just becomes 9 Inning Events, so that's probably not optimal), or two, CR could just limit the cards available, similar to BR, but without the randomness of drafting.

    Something like this:
    3 90+ Diamonds
    3 85-89 Diamonds
    8 Golds
    8 Silvers
3 Bronze or Common (or 4 if they change to the 26 man roster)

Anyone can build a decent enough team with that, and it would allow for a lot of cards that get released to be relevant for much of the game's cycle, and may even drive up some excitement for more content by way of lesser players who may have been popular, but don't really deserve a diamond card (for all my Craig Counsell fans out there).

The rewards could get pretty fun here, as RS and CR could have mirroring rewards (RS gets a beast Tom Glavine, CR gets a beast John Smoltz, something like that). I dunno. Could be something fun to play with.

This would also be a good mode if they more heavily integrate Evolution. Get that bronze rookie whoever, play some games and gain some stats, and boom, all of a sudden he's a silver breakout...

Anyway, that's about all I got on this, so let me know what you think.

Also, if you managed to read this far: Anne Hathaway is hot.

With no real baseball, waited this whole time for the next faces of the franchise cards only to find out they’re all barely known prospects?? I’m not one to complain much about this game, but that sucks. I only cared to see the Giants next one, but still. That’s garbage, who cares about a bunch of prospects? Or am I wrong....is it not going to be all prospects/not gonna be pointless?

    All this time? It's April...

  • 2020 Content: Prospects
  • WiryHooligan22_PSNW WiryHooligan22_PSN

My students are taking a test, so I've got not much to do, so I wanted to reflect on the content this year. I don't know if I'll make more than this post, or keep going after this, but I guess we'll see.

The new Prospects series was a pretty great way to start the season. No OP cards, really, and some were quite fun to use for a time, though admittedly, I played better with most of the golds than the diamonds (Looking at you, Daulton Varsho). I'm torn on how I feel about the Prospect series existing alongside Future Stars, though, considering a lot of the Prospects got FS cards.

I almost feel as if Prospects should exist, or Future Stars should exist, but I have a hard time reconciling the need for both unless they become a sort of 2 tiered series with Future Stars being the reimagined top prospects that are knocking on the door and Prospects being cards that are maybe a couple years off.

    Example:
Clarke Schmidt of the Yankees: Future Stars
    Jasson Dominguez: Prospect

This would eliminate all the repeats, while also exposing a broader audience to the potential future of players in the game, which is something I always appreciated about the FS cards in the first place.

They could even set up a Prospect/FS program similar to TA with perhaps 4 rewards (this is not well thought out). Start Tier 1 with launch of the game, and open a new tier like every 2 weeks. All the Prospects released during Spring Training, and the Future Stars in the first month of the season.

    Tier 1: Silver Prospect
    Tier 2: Gold Prospect
    Tier 3: Gold Future Star
    Tier 4: Diamond Future Star

Maybe even throw a Future Star program during the All Star Break for Futures Game MVPs or something. I dunno.

I enjoyed being able to use the FS cards, and still use a few of them regularly, and even roll out a FS team in RS once in awhile to switch thing up.

Ultimately, I think the Prospects were great for early season cards, and they shouldn't really be endgame cards, so the high 80-low 90s ratings were pretty solid for that early in the cycle. The silver prospect may be pretty much completely unnecessary, so it may be better to go low gold/low diamond for prospects, and high gold/high diamond for FS.

Anyway, just something I was pondering.
