List of MLB the Show/DD problems
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

This post will go over different catogories within mlb the show. Anything marked at the end with L is considered a Legacy issue, meaning this issue spans across multiple years and has not been fixed.

    Gameplay:
L- Fielder urgency still consistently lacks, from fielders acting like they have never seen a ball hit off a wall before, players waiting for the ball, double tapping the glove when they need to throw quickly.

L- even though it seems by design, hitting still has its issues. [censored] in the corner of the zone on higher difficulty shrink the pci so small that it's basically rng when it[censored]. Then on outside pitches if you actually hit them to the opposite field it is considered a "slightly late" swing, while rolling over on the same pitch will result in hrs. This was actually fixed during the very 1st patch on mlb the show 18, but for some reason they decided to take away pop to the opposite field. Also, if a pitch is placed just off the coner of the box the game rounds off the pci movement too harshly and it does not allow you to get under, or put the pci dot on the ball

L- I think everyone in the community has been asking sds to reduce the amount of foul [censored] for years, they keep it this way so the casuals who swing at everything can stay in the game.

"L"- even though it is relatively new, it is really a shame that sds consistently ignores the co-op mode when it has some of the best potential in the game. Games still often end in freezeoffs, and not only that you get banned if you want to leave! So sds doesn't fix their game glitching, and punishes players when it happens? That makes a lot of sense.....

Also don't know why the "classic" pci and the one burst was removed they were by far my favorite to use. Not really sure why you can't just have all of them in the game.

    Non gameplay issues:

New problem: with the introduction of seasons last year, sds has decided to make MLB The Shop 24. With the game centered around these new 40k packs. These packs legitimately have a worse return on investment than sitting at an actual casino. With these packs often being 1/4 or 1/5 chance for the higher round you'll in theory go broke faster sitting there opening MLB packs than you will sitting at a blackjack table. Keep in mind this game is rated E for everyone meaning it's designed for children to play as well.

L- Along with the idea of packs, why do we see almost all the same players every year? "BUT SDS DOES ADD NEW PLAYERS!", the sad truth is we have seen just as many players dissappear from the game as we have seen players added and mlb the show only makes more money every year, so it can't be justified that they only add a few players here and there. At this point our "new" cards are just cards from the older games because they don't have enough actual new content to fill the game with.

This was just a short summary, I really could go on and on. In short, sds needs to put forth way more effort than what they are providing to the community, and every update is pretty much a nothing burger.

It would also be wonderful if sds would actually interact with their community on the forum, but they usually don't unless the moderator gets offended or it is an issue they need to hotfix. I've seen this forum every year as well.

@yankblan like I said, I could go on and on. Been playing the show since it was 989 studios making the game. Some issues are repeated issues that the community has asked for, and they even said they fixed Fielder urgency, but I'm seeing the same fielding animations as mlb the show 15 and wondering why they are still there when they are problem animations.

@DEF266 I could start posting conspiracy theories ab the game but I like sds to have to read all my complaints wo having the grounds to ban me lol

@BJDUBBYAH doesn't even have to do with last Gen. I've played ps3 games that run smoother and look better than mlb the show looks in 2024

Really what SDS need DESPERATELY is a community manager that directly fields the game communities concerns and communicates with the devs directly. I'd gladly do that job. I really do like mlb the show and love baseball, and the game I currently play does not resemble actual baseball.

  • Carlos Santana Captain Card has ruined the game.
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

@GoozeFn there's a difference between relevant and broken. We all wanted captains for theme teams. Switch hitters are already and advantage. It's essentially just a double advantage theme team. Not what we wanted. Almost never see team captains bc they still aren't good enough except for a few teams.

  • Why are live series cards always not as good?
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

You would think the best player at their position would be at minimum a 96, or at least power creep them throughout the year. Never made sense to me why the live series cards are always lower.

  • As much money as the show makes....
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

As much money as the show makes you would think we would get dedicated servers so the game would feel consistent.

  • Booty flash sale
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

Hop on to see vault packs are 30k and open 4 just to get my highest card as a 93 worth 5k. What a deal. Then you release homestretch packs worth that cost more than the cards on the market? Nice.... at least if you're going to show pack odds on the packs be a little less vague than just 90+ at 1:2 odds when 90s are essentially worthless atp. Could literally go up to the casino rn and get a better odds of return on investment than your flash "sale". Ar least madden clarifies the odds of getting a 95-97 and 99 ovr. DO BETTER SDS

  • What are the biggest game play frustrations?
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

    @Aron1740_MLBTS
    Easy:

    1. Foul [censored] in the dirt and very early/late swings

    2. On outside pitches the timing window for a perfect is to center and not opposite field resulting in randomly swinging a pool noodle when a ball i[censored] opposite field, but they will let you pull it down the line for a hr.

    3. The fielders run too fast which has been a problem forever, but they also run towards the wall with no regard for human life and make catches that would never be made.

  • Just realized a big problem with sets and sds in general
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

I never have spent a dime on any MLBTS, but I feel bad for the people that do. They quite literally spent money on cards and then can't use the cards anymore. Does anyone else think that's wrong? I could understand a yearly cycle, but to me just seems like a way to get people to continually try to buy packs throughout the year. This year especially feels like a cash grab, and they haven't addressed a single issue with gameplay in a few years now. They lied about fielder urgency, they still haven't fixed sinkers breaking when they are high, which we've asked to be fixed since Cabrera was a problem years ago now. Foul [censored], that's all that needs to be said. The timing windows don't even make sense. They want you to wait until the ball is on the plate on outside offspeed for it to go oppo, but a fastball in the same location the timing window is to center instead, which makes no sense bc a pitch in a location is in that location regardless of velo. Freezoffs still happen often in co-op. All this and they ignore it all, just in attempt to cash grab. It's sad, lazy, and unacceptable. I'll say the same thing over and over until the issues are addressed.

  • Limit The Number Of Switch-Hitters In Online Games
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

@GoozeFn_PSN once you hit ds and up it was quite literally 90% of the games you would play would be Santana boost and probably a 50% chance the Kershaw boost as well. It was a legitimate problem, which is why they nerfed it.

  • Love the fact we can't even use our wildcard
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

SDS: grind out the headstart stuff to get your first wildcard!
    Us: ok
    SDS: New season is out!
Us: we can't use our wildcard without getting an error
    SDS: Oh....
Us: why did we do all the stuff and we can't use it?
SDS: Idk, we gotta figure it out.
Us: wouldn't it make sense to test if it works before you release the season?
SDS: we can test the game?

  • Serious input delay online
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

@xElRojo44x-_MLBTS especially higher difficulties, how the heck am I supposed to hit 103 when it swings so long after I hit swing? I've played on monitor and it helped a little, but my eyes suck so I had to switch back to my TV. The input delay is just heinous if they have a bad connection.

@X-FREEZE-OFF-X_PSN I mean for the phils. Really it would be nice if some cards got dual chems

  • Why can’t ranked umpires be perfect?
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

@Ishove27_PSN they absolutely need to fix it. I'm convinced they hate people that like pitching. Oh, you have perfect inputs? Here's some crazy rng on where the pitch will actually end up. Oh, you actually got a favorable rng and it actually went in the zone? Here's an rng ball as well. Makes me wanna hit something.

  • What to improve for next year
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

    GAMEPLAY:

    • swing timing: for whatever reason outside pitches will register as slightly late when you hit them the other way and the perfect window is to center which makes no sense

    • swing types: The square swing needs a buff. There is literally 0 reason to use it. The exit velocities stay the same, it shrinks the zone to a pea, and the timing window is so small it's insane. Along with that, the X swing should be nerfed. If you're not swinging for power there's no reason a ball should go 530 feet or an inside pitch flying to the wall in center field. Circle swings are fine where they are for the most part. However I feel like more [censored] should drop in front of outfielders off of them if squared up.

    • pitching: some pitchers have an almost unusable pinpoint. You'll go the same speed and it just turns yellow or is so fast its impossible to time it. Really pinpoint was an overall negative add to the show in my opinion and they should have buffed other pitching types like analog when they added it so you aren't basically forced to use it to be competitive. The par and strikezone is just a joke as well. You made a perfect pitch? Rng ball on the corner. You made a perfect pitch? The ball is actually just going to tickle the par and end up a strike even though you aimed it in the dirt. Sinkers shouldn't sink high, but I think we are at the point where they are too lazy to code that into the game. Also make pitchers throw what they actually throw velo wise, so tired of seeing guys that throw high 90s pumping 104 with a 96 mph slider in the 7th inning when they have 85 pitches.

    • fielding: the fielders still aren't urgent at all even though that's what we were all told this year. You cancel a throw because someone rounds third trying to finesse a run and your fielders just have a stroke for like 2 whole seconds before they throw the ball. Then of course you have the opposite where a fielder dives (elly...) halfway across the field to catch a ball hit 105 up the middle. The superman dives aren't it. The field is also made of concrete or something, I've never seen a 60 mph blooper bounce 15 feet in the air like in this game.

    • co-op: I don't understand why it matters if we make a full goon squad with captains and everything. Would instantly make it more fun to play if it was all players we wanted to use. Still get freezeoffs too here and there. SDS says it's one of the least played game modes, but maybe that's the case because your execution was cheeks, not the game mode.

    NON GAMEPLAY ISSUES:

    • DD: I sound like a broken record echoed by the community but a majority does NOT like seasons. At least yall haven't added a "battlepass" yet, but the way it's going I could see that xp rewards path turning into one somehow. Power creep is just objectively better, one feels like you are constantly building a better squad, while sets feel like you built the squad and then steal all the hard work you put in to upgrade your team. They should reintroduce team "epics" next year as well, and the program shouldbe reworked to build a cohesive theme team that you can then upgrade with power creep throughout the year with new epic missions that add more players to the team. The 1st team epic should come with a captain and a few players and add from there. Overall I just want to see more promos and events that are fun.

    • franchise: Nobody plays it because you put no effort in. Everyone used to play franchise game modes back in the ps2 days because it was so in depth and you could spend hours on it, but they won't spend money on microtransactions so screw those people.

    • DD (Cont.) packs: Overall this year's game felt like a cashgrab, lots of cards only obtainable through packs that were "meta" on release and that wouldn't be a problem, but the pack odds and values of cards makes it hard to justify packs. Madden gets away with it because they release ltds and all of a sudden packs aren't a bad proposition. You can get your "lottery" card and make out like a bandit. The packs in DD just feel dull and the only thing expensive you can pull at all is a high live series or a chase card, neither of which return you enough stubs to justify packs because a majority of the time you spend 75k and get like 15% back on return to player. If you compared putting your money in mlb packs to a slot machine you should just throw it in a slot machine and buy the stubs with the money you might win, it's that bad.

    CONCLUSION:
Overall I would say this game gets a 80/100. It's not unplayable, heck sometimes it's even kind of fun. However the downsides of the game will make you tilt so fast and make you not want to play it. Even when you're better than someone you can end up losing because of a fault of the game and not your own and that combined with how DD is run is why the score is an 80. The game could easily be a 90-95 if they just fixed small frustrations.

  • Ok... we need to talk ab the sinkers..

@crimson_monk_psn said in Ok... we need to talk ab the sinkers..:

Not to mention out the hand it looks offspeed, yet in real life if looks like a fastball

This also ^^^ it comes onto you way faster than a 4 seam

  • Cards
  • Wildthingwilly_MLBTSW Wildthingwilly_MLBTS

@devdev_011 they don't allow this for the same reason madden stopped it. Farm accounts, you could essentially do every program, buy a card, trade it, sell for profit.
