The Best Sports Game Ever Made
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

With this forum typically biased toward the negative, I wanted to state the case for why this is the best sports game ever made:

    1. Gameplay is overall amazing. Player animations, graphics, stadium detail, virtually everything is great. Just think about how accurate nearly all of the swings, stances, and pitching motions are. It’s incredible. And despite what all the entitled brats have to say, skill is constantly rewarded over time. It’s baseball, sometimes crushed balls aren’t hits and bloopers fall. But the cream always rises, which is obvious since no matter what I do, the few times each year I hit the 800’s I immediately lose to better players and get out in my place.

    2. So many cards. Beyond the love series, are there like 300-400 cards that have all been usable in RS at some point? And more drop all the time. Would I like Mark Grace, Bonds, A-Rod, Nomar, Aramis Ramirez, etc? For sure, but I prefer to focus on what we do get.

    3. Just stop and think how cool it is that I can fire up the PS5 and within minutes be playing another guy 2 time zones away, each with teams we’ve thoughtfully created consisting of players from over 10 different decades, and even the future. And then you get ranked based on how good you are. As someone who has played sports his whole life, what a treat it is to compete like that. And if you have even decent internet speed, it all happens consistently smooth with lag being really rare.

    4. You can build a legit team without spending money and if you “grind” wisely, it’s not much of a burden. I’m sure Conquest, Mini, and Showdowns aren’t for everyone and I’d much rather play RS, but I still have fun with the “grind” when I just want to puff and crank out some stuff. I like 2K and Madden as well, but their versions of “DD” are awful, hard to navigate, clumsy, and seemingly require 100’s of dollars to be spent to compete at all. And their “grinds” are truly that, just joyless gaming.

    5. The flaws that do exist are minor. Yeah, I’ve had some perfectly timed pitches seemingly finish outside the grey circle but it’s the exception not the rule. Yeah, Boog says things that are out of place and often straight up incorrect. But I can only imagine the complexity of adding a new announcer (the new voice has been a blessing by the way, just needed something fresh) and I’m sure by next year he’ll start properly calling foul balls. And yeah, I’ve had some fielding animations really screw me here and there, but it’s relatively rare. Should there be a DH? Probably, but that rule was implemented much too close to release for SDS to react, plus I’m not sure the experience will be “better” with a DH in RS (although I assume it’s coming next year).

And there’s lots of other little things (parallel system, co-op, etc) that contribute to this being the best sports game ever made in my opinion and I find life is better when you focus on what you have, rather than what you don’t.

  • Some Positivity
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

As usual, this community is mostly toxic but some positive observations and feedback on the game:

    • Love the online stats screen during pregame of ranked games. Really nice to see who you’re actually playing.
    • Love that you don’t have to warm up pitchers
    • It didn’t take all that much to get to the end of the 1st inning XP rewards. I was on vacation for 9 days and still spun the wheel quite a few times without a ton of playing.
    • Wall meter when trying to rob HR’s is cool. I was worried it would make it too easy but it’s a good balance
    • They improved check swings. Feels like you get real and honest feedback on check swings
    • Really liked Weekend Classic. Was Silver II and had some really fun, competitive games (other than one dude who must’ve not played enough because I got destroyed…). Some really good rewards for going just 3-3.
    • Lineup diversity has been really good. Pitching could probably use a few more viable arms, but I’ve been playing against a pretty diverse population off cards
    • Only one freeze off so far. One too many of course, but so far my online experience has been very smooth (turn off cross play if that’s not your experience)

Really fun and rewarding game so far. Feels like you get what you deserve more than ever.

  • PSA: White Jersey = Home, Colored Jersey = Away
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

Come on guys, it’s not that difficult. When you design your jerseys, it makes sense to follow the historical norms that have been in place for over a century. Yes, hone teams over the last few decades have occasionally worn dark jerseys, but 99% of the time, the home team should be wearing white.

  • Anyone honestly pulled Trout more than once this season?
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

Got him two nights in a row in free packs. I tried to explain to my wife how amazing that was and she looked like she wanted a divorce.

  • This game clearly skews outcomes with hidden affects

Does that tinfoil hat come in a 7 7/8?

  • Chipper Jones Order PSA
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

For anyone that might care, I placed an order for Chipper on Nov 14 and it finally came through this morning. That’s all I got, just thought some of you may be interested. Cheers!

5 second timer between pitches seems a bit excessive. Also not everyone wants to sit there and take over an hour for a game so try to understand why people try not to take long between pitches? You can't ask people to try and understand your side without extending the same courtesy

Then live with R2 holding. I’m not going to let someone throw 10 pitches in 3 seconds like it’s a machine gun. If you don’t want a timer, R2 is the best way to make both sides happy.

What exactly is wrong with a pitcher working quickly and how is that anything but a good thing? I use R2 a bit because there’s some useful info there, but once you’ve gathered that info, let’s play the [censored] game. It’s not like you’re a real hitter in an actual MLB game. What are you possibly doing with that extra time when you’re holding R2?

  • Awful “realistic” hitting engine
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

The “hitting engine is broken” types seem to overlook the fact that the best players always win more. Always. If this was an “RNG” situation where “skill and input don’t matter” then why do I get to the 700 level every year, then almost immediately get smoked by people who are actually good at this game? Literally every season. I beat the crappy players regularly, do pretty well against the solid players, and get stomped by dudes who keep squaring up the ball consistently at the higher levels. Like clockwork. That’s not an accident.
And the people above make great points about the pitching side of this. Where are the crybaby “I threw a perfect pitch, why was it crushed?” people in any of this? “Boohoo, I keep hitting the paint and the idiots at SDS aren’t rewarding me with strikes”. Love it.
Is this maybe a generation gap thing? I’m 46 so maybe I don’t have the “everyone gets a trophy” mentality? Maybe some people are just better equipped to deal with failure, sometimes despite the fact you played well, regardless of age?

  • April Lightning
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

You’re really complaining that they didn’t give a dude hitting .240 a Topps Now because he was 4th place in RBI? There’d be quite a few cards being added if that was the standard….

  • Keep spending your stimulus money please. Loving the market.
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

I would suggest if you qualify for a stimulus check, you don’t have enough money to blow on a better team in a video game.

  • Anyone else get their Diamond Deluxe rewards twice?
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

I had the same temporary issues with the servers last night everyone else did. After a few restarts I got in and redeemed my deluxe packs (2 42’s, 6 Golds, etc). Then this afternoon I logged back on and had they gave me my deluxe packs again but I still have everything I opened last night so I doubled up on those rewards. Pretty good deal! Anyone else?

  • USA Map rewards?
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

Felt like fewer hidden packs in this years map. I finished it but didn’t keep track. But getting the 6 prospects probably more then offsets the more modest hidden packs in the map this year. But now that I’ve been doing the Affinity Showdown stuff, I’m seeing I should have been doing this the whole time. Seems like a more efficient path to earn stuff.

  • Why do we see things like this?
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN
    1. You obviously have something wrong. No way the game suddenly doesn’t count outs properly, so you have detail(s) wrong
    2. 4 TB’s with Wander should take like 5 tries on a bad day, so that’s like 5-6 minutes maybe? Could’ve gotten that done in the time it took to post this.
    3. “Warning track” doesn’t have a hyphen
    4. Nobody knows what a “warning track jobber” is, nor was it relevant to your lame story

  • I’m Sure Everyone Will Agree
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

We can’t agree on that at all. Sometimes I need to grab a beer. Sometimes I need to take a leak. Sometimes my kids wake up and want to talk. Sometimes my wife wants to ask me something real quick. Sometimes my cat brings a rabbit it just caught into the house and I have to spent 2 minutes trying to get the thing out of my house. I’ve played like 150 RS games and even the most heavy pause guys don’t make the game last more than a few minutes and I’ll just use that time to stand up, stretch, and enjoy life. I say you need to relax man.

  • True story 😂
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

Hilarious! That stupid idiot at SDS is looking at “data” and using his years of experience that have led him to making hundreds of thousands of dollars developing one of the best sports video games ever made! What a loser. Dude should open his eyes and listen to a bunch of biased half-wits that don’t know how to hit. The community wants “MLB The Show Tee Ball” next year and we won’t stop until you listen!! (although even then people would still put the PCI a little low, hit the tee, and then [censored] about how they hit the tee…)

  • I was wrong about flipping
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

I’ve been playing for years, but never flipped cards with any regularity because it sounded like a total time suck flipping golds or weird equipment cards over and over. But then a few days ago I realized that 98 Bellinger looked like an easy flip. Started using the app over a few days in little spurts, placing buy orders that were a little high but not too much, selling them a little low but not too much, which allowed me to crank out a lot of volume. Made like 2-8k each time and now I have Brett without much effort. If you’re spending time flipping golds and other cheap cards, you’re wasting your time. I’m not sure why Bellinger is more ripe for this than other cards and I flipped Nolan, Volpe, and Napoli a few times, but flipping Bellinger is pretty easy.

  • Do you think this game plays so bad because it's on too many platforms?
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

I stopped drinking 2 years ago. Now I just grab a few beers on my home when I’m thirsty a few times a week.

  • To the perfect/perfect crybabies
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

100% of the time, perfect/perfect swings result in extremely hard contact. Not just solid contact, but really hard hit balls. That’s all the game is supposed to do. Hard hit balls don’t guarantee hits. You can go back and look at your perfect/perfect contact each game and see what the result was. So to all the people that post “I never get rewarded for perfect/perfect”, we can all see your history and we know you’re lying. I get that is sucks to perfect one straight to 3B or to the warning track, but it’s part of it. Stop complaining and be thankful you’re not playing Madden.

The only valid complaints this year are the base runner preview diamond showing up in the upper right only for the lead runner (can you change that so it’s not so weird?) and Luis Urias distracting leg kick that make it impossible for me to hit with him.

Edit: just checked out your record. Above statement stands true.

Anyone that "checks a record" is a great human being.

It’s an obsession for some people. Some guys haven’t even played a road game for 4 years because their online record in MLB the show is about as important as things gets…..checks game history….ohhhhh crazy…..it’s the guy talking about looking up records everyday lmfao

Yup these pussies that Bat 400
but will do anything to stay on All star and play lower levels to just kill everyone and brag about their records ... Is that you [censored] ? @The_Canuckler

Dude, nobody is doing this. That’s some kind of Q’anon style claim right there.

  • Js lost an online game cuz of time
  • tear4eddy_PSNT tear4eddy_PSN

lol. They give you so much time. It takes like 10 seconds to change pitchers if you’re really thinking about it. Of all the things to blame someone else for, taking too long to make your pitching changes is one of the best.
