With this forum typically biased toward the negative, I wanted to state the case for why this is the best sports game ever made:

    1. Gameplay is overall amazing. Player animations, graphics, stadium detail, virtually everything is great. Just think about how accurate nearly all of the swings, stances, and pitching motions are. It’s incredible. And despite what all the entitled brats have to say, skill is constantly rewarded over time. It’s baseball, sometimes crushed balls aren’t hits and bloopers fall. But the cream always rises, which is obvious since no matter what I do, the few times each year I hit the 800’s I immediately lose to better players and get out in my place.

    2. So many cards. Beyond the love series, are there like 300-400 cards that have all been usable in RS at some point? And more drop all the time. Would I like Mark Grace, Bonds, A-Rod, Nomar, Aramis Ramirez, etc? For sure, but I prefer to focus on what we do get.

    3. Just stop and think how cool it is that I can fire up the PS5 and within minutes be playing another guy 2 time zones away, each with teams we’ve thoughtfully created consisting of players from over 10 different decades, and even the future. And then you get ranked based on how good you are. As someone who has played sports his whole life, what a treat it is to compete like that. And if you have even decent internet speed, it all happens consistently smooth with lag being really rare.

    4. You can build a legit team without spending money and if you “grind” wisely, it’s not much of a burden. I’m sure Conquest, Mini, and Showdowns aren’t for everyone and I’d much rather play RS, but I still have fun with the “grind” when I just want to puff and crank out some stuff. I like 2K and Madden as well, but their versions of “DD” are awful, hard to navigate, clumsy, and seemingly require 100’s of dollars to be spent to compete at all. And their “grinds” are truly that, just joyless gaming.

    5. The flaws that do exist are minor. Yeah, I’ve had some perfectly timed pitches seemingly finish outside the grey circle but it’s the exception not the rule. Yeah, Boog says things that are out of place and often straight up incorrect. But I can only imagine the complexity of adding a new announcer (the new voice has been a blessing by the way, just needed something fresh) and I’m sure by next year he’ll start properly calling foul balls. And yeah, I’ve had some fielding animations really screw me here and there, but it’s relatively rare. Should there be a DH? Probably, but that rule was implemented much too close to release for SDS to react, plus I’m not sure the experience will be “better” with a DH in RS (although I assume it’s coming next year).

And there’s lots of other little things (parallel system, co-op, etc) that contribute to this being the best sports game ever made in my opinion and I find life is better when you focus on what you have, rather than what you don’t.

I get what the OP is saying. Yeah, the game is cool about not having to spend money every week to get cards. But it is 2022. Sony should pony up and create a better gameplay based on the technology we currently have. Feedback is probably one of the worst things they could have added to this game. We know when RNG is happening because of it. It's probably also a big reason why SDS took out the opponent's feedback this year.

This is my 1st time playing an MLB game and actually learning about baseball. I’m a die hard Madden/MUT guy and believe me when I tell you SDS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> EA. People like to complain go over to EA and see how they treat their fan base. It’s miles and miles apart. You have to spend $$ consistently with MUT or be great at playing to get the cards you want.

People complain about Trout being 400k? There’s always a card that comes out every week in MUT that costs 1 mil + coins to get. Not to mention the countless times that EA was just hush on a big key issues in the game or the numerous f ups they had and they just went on about their business without saying a word on thier screw ups just leaning their fan base in the dark. SDS >>>>>>>>> EA and ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE.

I completely agree and posted something very similar to this last year, which was my first year of playing DD. I have played the Show for years, but never explored DD until last year. Madden is a horrible game and MUT has gotten worse year after year. This year I didn't even get the game until it was 25 bucks, right around Christmas time and was getting bored of baseball. I probably still spent more time playing DD than MUT.

This game is great year one, I agree! But by year four, when nothing has changed, players quit. Hence the reason they added Xbox last year and made the game free, and they added switch this year.

Three years ago, this forum was the most active place to discuss this game.

Now the forum is a place for new players to celebrate the fact that they finally played a game that’s been out for over a decade.

Outside of content creators that depend on this game for income, veteran players of this game have moved on to other things (again, the reason this is no longer a Sony exclusive).

Enjoy the ride, in a couple years you’ll be done too.

While I do not believe it is the best sports game ever (that goes to Madden '03 or MLBTS '16), I also find it very fun to play. I have actually enjoyed playing this game every year since '11. Online RS can be frustrating at times due to latency, but that is every year. The worst Show version to me, was '18. You could not pitch effectively online due to the nerfed fastballs.

It's not a bad game, but if you have been playing for 10+ years, it really hit its ceiling for a few years. They tried circumventing that with a new RTTS that is absolutely bad; DD (and all UT type of games really) has become stale/watered down. Franchise is sitll struggling with drafting/trade logic.

Add to that that it's now stuck between a rock and a hard place with moving on to new gen (limited market) and old gen now that they added the Switch. I'm on PS4 and it's so maxed out the rendering and frame drops are abysmal this year.

To me this is not at all a question about "The Best Sports Game Ever". The issue at hand it is is not even the best version of "The Show". That is where I think a lot of people have issues and what some claim to be negativity. Is the game better than the current version of Madden? I don't know and really could care less. The only kind of video game I play is baseball video games. It really makes no sense to compare it to other sports games for many people. However, it does make a lot of sense to compare it to previous versions of this game.

I played The Show years ago (non DD) and the gameplay, commentary RTTS, etc. was all top notch and far beyond anything I had seen. It also got better every year. Last year ('21) was the first year I played DD and I had way more fun that I could have imagined, but saw a game covered in gameplay flaws. This years version is a step down from '21 in my opinion. Gameplay is worse, content is worse, commentary is way worse. I trust the long time DD guys on here who say that '17, '19, and '20 were better than last year and this year. The issue at hand is the game is moving backwards not forwards and thus in no way can be considered "The Best Sports Game Ever".

It’s the most pathetic game on the market. Skill does not matter in this game at all. SDS needs to clean house and get some actual developers in there that know what they are doing.

You're the most whiney player the game has. I wonder if the game has a forum constantly complaining about you instead of just doing something else

Skill does not matter and apparently this is their way of keeping the casuals engaged. This is what we get when a company corners the market and are the only game in town. The customer gets hoe'd and 22 is a classic example of that!
