The DDA in this game is appalling online
  • Swanedawg5119_XBLS Swanedawg5119_XBL

A common scenario I run into and have been running into for years...up by 2 in the last inning...mind you this guy couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat...lead off bloop single on very late timing and ball not in the pci...followed by an easy double play ground ball that my gold/diamond fielder lets go over his shoulder for an error...followed by a homerun on early timing and ball barely in the pci. Game over I hit the showers. I can’t be the only one that has seen that combo before. It’s like a Mortal Kombat finisher at this point. I believe 60-70% of the time a better than average player can over come it and the 80-90% of the time the elite players can over come it. Overcoming the script and trying your best to minimize it is where the skill gap takes place. Sometimes you can conquer it and other times you are at the mercy of the game. But there is a script and it does happen.

Once the donut bat skins came into the game I pretty much lost all hope of realism. Then came the CAP bat flips that I have not even seen the likes of little leaguers do...let alone professional baseball players. But it’s a video game and I love baseball and the MLB so I’ll continue to get nukes hit off me by a 5’2 355lb switch hitting shortstop with a donut bat skin and hang my head in shame as he slams his bat down and spins like a washing machine down the first base line.

After these updates I’m convinced these developers don’t watch baseball other than ESPN highlights. If someone thinks otherwise please let me have it. I beg you. But how does a hurt Buxton get a +1, Kershaw (2.62 ERA) gets a -1, Baez (.252 BA) gets a +1 which puts him an attribute higher than Kris Bryant who is outperforming him in almost every hitting category and plays multiple positions, Adam Frazier (.299 BA) can’t even sniff a +1, Civale is 5-0 with a 2.91 but don’t you even dare think about upgrading him, and Means...sweet 8lb 6oz 23 inch long baby Jesus the man is 4-0 with a 1.21 ERA and can’t get upgraded to a gold...I mean I must be missing something here but I could go on and on about how 90% of these updates make zero sense if you actually watch baseball...not to mention the crazy quick diamond to gold hooks on Abreu and Lindor.

  • What I really love about this game
  • Swanedawg5119_XBLS Swanedawg5119_XBL

@johnny_reb34_psn said in What I really love about this game:

About 1 RS game out of 5 the animation really appears to be accurately tracking controller input. Then it's a lot of fun.

What I really hate about this game..about 4 games out of 5 there is no semblance of consistency with controller input. When the game has concluded who is going to win..typically before it starts..it will just create this stream of animation that plays out however the code has decided it needs to depict an "exciting" game of baseball.

Countless times I won't even move my controller and the PCI jumps all over the place. At least half the time (I could chart it but that would be too much trouble) the PCI doesn't come close to matching where I know I moved my controller. The reason...because the code is controlling the outcome..not the controller/player.

When the code decides to hamstring either me or my opponent you see the most bizarre animation to support the "excitement". Guys over-running base like they never-ever do. Always getting tagged out trying to return.

Many little "tricks" the designers, I suppose, slip in believing we the player won't see it for the BS it is. The worst is the late inning neutralizing of anything that resembles solid contact on the ball.

You'll be playing for 8 innings and everything feels fairly normal (meaning what you would expect for the most part from how you swung)...suddenly when it's time for the code to change the game you might go 3 innings where the animation falls off a cliff. Everything you were previously squaring up on becomes cans-of-corn, infield flies, just that silly audio they inject to make-believe you rolled-over a ball or whatever the intent is.

I've been saving a lot of this video. I've got at least 20 different variations of this type of activity that is telling..very telling. Problem is, you post a link to any sort of "glitch" video and it's a potential trip to band-land. The gatekeepers love to build up the nonsense competition that doesn't exist in this game, but HATE to see anyone point out it's many-many flaws that so obviously underscore the fact there is no competition in this game. It's always player-vs-AI..regardless of the mode you happen to be playing in. Sad..sad.

My buddies and I have a group chat going where we strictly talk about the show. I can’t even begin to tell you how much evidence we have proving the game is nowhere close to the level of competitiveness SDS preached pre release. I wish I was kidding but everyday someone sends a picture of a whack pci placement/bad timing home run or a great pci placement/good timing weak fly out. Obviously the outcomes are dependent on the inning and the score of the game and can favor either you or your opponent. But god forbid you post anything like that on this forum because people will say that’s “just baseball” or “get good” lol. It doesn’t take a genius to play the game for hours on end and realize the patterns/scripts that take place in the game modes that we were told would strictly rely on user input. Granted there will still be skill gaps because the script can be beat but it’s just a pain to have to go against the script and the opponent at the same time.

@johnny_reb34_psn said in Strangest game ever:

Love it when you point out the zany AI animation in a game you won and the gate-keepers and fan-boyz really have nothing to say. No "get gud", "you suck", "you shoulda did this". I'll get back to that.

They just say ignorant things about my precious edibles. Ha. You wish your state had this legalized. The only way to get through an AI nonsense animation generated MLB the Ho-ho game anymore. I don't get as uptight. Just sit and laugh about the code failure and the mediocrity of some of the designers.

Anyway, getting back to the suggestion some of these clowns give out. You have to "turn the transparency up on the PCI", "start the PCI high", "wait for your pitch..hahahahaha".

Heck, a lot more to say but the edibles are keeping me from really tearing into some of you jokers.

One last thing to leave you with. The most important thing in this game is to get the best catcher. Then you'll win a lot more. The best catcher is Kendall. OK, you're welcome...now go practice and get gud you Show-gladiators you.

You are the hero the forum needs. I don’t have the time or energy to deal with the fanboys or trolls like you do. Keep up the good work. Maybe if we call SDS out on it enough they will let the game play how it’s supposed to be played. Or at least make a true competitive mode where only input matters. You want to play causal and have the all the ridiculous RNG...go for it...knock yourself out. But I’d rather lose by 15 to a man who lives in his moms basement, plays 24 hours a day, and has mastered the perfect perfects than to ever lose to the gimmicky “ball over the shoulder” error by a diamond fielder followed by the poor timing and poor pci placement walk off pump. I have no problem admitting defeat when someone is better than me. I just want the game to feel rewarding and for the outcomes to make sense. It would be an incredible game if they took the script off and that’s why it’s so frustrating.

I cant tell you how many games I have been up 1 or 2 and have out hit my opponent by 3+ hits all to surrender a late inning 450+ bomb via contact swing. My dogs just stare at me across the room like I'm the animal.... I probably am.

I pitch to contact every game. I throw my waste pitches when I need to. I am well above average at pitching but once they start the contact swing it changes your entire approach to pitching. You have to tip toe around the edges. Man it's the worst feeling lol.... even more annoying with the little zit i am playing immediately messages me "scoreboard"

And before anyone says "hOw Do YoU kNoW tHeY aRe UsInG cOnTaCt SwInG?" bro just look at the pitch feedback.... the PCI isnt 3x the size just because they have 105 contact lick my sack.

Alright rant over time to go give up a contact swing homerun in the top of the 8th to Simon Birch.

This is glorious lol. Don’t worry though contact swing isn’t completely broken and the scout pack is coming and maybe if we are lucky we will get some more unsellable equipment. Cross your fingers!

Grandal went 0-3 today with 3 strikeouts and is now batting .125 on the year and after ten years in the league is batting .235. He got his hitting stats boosted today.

Adam Frazier has consistently hit over .270 every year besides the COVID year and he is currently a bronze shield at hitting. So I think when SDS says that whole “3 year average” thing it is to give them more wiggle room to manipulate stats and ratings how they see fit. Because why else would someone who has shown they are a better than average hitter in the MLB only be bronze worthy.

Oh the irony! "Do the Devs watch baseball?" Do you watch thier streams? If you did you would know that one of the main guys that works on gameplay was in AAA with Trevor Hoffman! He's probabally forgot more about baseball than you even know about the game! Gil is a genius programmer!

Lol just because you made it to a certain level and played with an all time great doesn’t mean you automatically know more than someone. What if said person was super talented and didn’t pay any attention to anyone besides himself or what his role was at the time? I have played with plenty of people who if they were a pitcher could careless about what responsibilities the hitters/position players had. All they cared about was their specific role and doing that role well. Granted I’m sure that’s not the case because AAA is no joke but to use that as a reason for why someone may know more than someone else is slightly ridiculous. I mean I played baseball for 25 years, played against solid competition at the D1 level, and know a number of professional baseball players. But I know for a fact there are definitely loads of people out there with far less experience that know way more than me.

Let me ask you guys. Do you not end up on the other side of these stories at times. I mean if someone is getting screwed, someone else gets rewarded at the same time.

It should even itself out in the long run. You cannot honestly tell us that opponent don’t get perfect/perfect outs at times or that you don’t pull off BS hits at times.

Everyone complains when it goes against them, never for them. It’s pretty [censored] funny

    I do

Yeah, but you’re one of a kind 😂

I haven’t played any ranked this year because of the servers. But I have played since 16 and can honestly say I feel like garbage when it happens for or against me. When it happens for me I feel like it was undeserving/not rewarding especially if someone is carving me up and I haven’t done anything to help myself out (taking pitches, swinging at garbage, not having good timing or pci placement, or doing anything remotely baseball savvy to get the bats going, etc). A win is a win and yeah that’s great and I’ll take them. But at the end of the day I want to feel like I earned them and wasn’t just handed them at someone else’s unlucky and undeserved demise.

If their 3 year average is a rolling one, like say May 12th 2018 to May 12th 2021, that may explain the fluctuations that don’t reflect the most recent past, i.e. last 2 weeks. Lindor has been on a steady ratings decline starting last year and has had bad IE most of the time this year, so him going gold is not surprising. His OPS+ in 2019 and 20 have been on the decline and so have this year to start. ISO, walks all declining. It makes me wonder how much weight 20 has on that scale.

All very good points sir! Thanks!

The roster updates every two weeks based of a different timelines stats. The last 2 weeks isn’t really where Buxton earned his boost, it’s from like 5-21 days ago while he was earning his POTM. ALL of the April POTM cards just got juiced in mid May.

I really only started truly investing in cards this year but have played the game religiously since 16. I understand the market but I am still trying to figure out exactly how they go about with the updates. Thanks for the input!

Which is exactly why they have to do a little bit of maneuvering themselves. If it was down to an exact science there would be a YouTube page or post on this forum telling you exactly which cards are going which way all the time and everyone would have 5,000,000 stubs.

If you want an alternate option, buy cards like Nolan Arrenado and others when there -5 on IE and sell him a day or so later when he’s +5 on IE. Devin Williams another example.

Another option is to buy cards like the topps now that are currently coming out when they are low (now and the next week or two) and sell them when the POTM comes out. The few hundred thousand I made is nothing compared to some people who made millions without even trying.

Bet on lazy people, not MLB players.

    You are the GOAT sir!

Tim Anderson has been batting above .320 for 3 consecutive years. Anyone who watches Sox games knows that he often has clutch hits as well. This year so far he only made 1 error in the months of April and May combined. How is this man an 83 overall?

Oh and Lance Lynn is a diamond too. And Max Scherzer should be 90+. That's all, good day folks.

All I can tell you is don’t look too far into it because you’ll just get upset. There are so many other discrepancies other than the ones you listed. Crazy quick downgrade on Abreu this year as well. Especially if they are going off of the 3 year running total they say they go off of.

If we are being honest with ourselves there shouldn’t be more than one swing. I get the idea and it fits well into the video game mold because of the various cards but if it can’t be executed properly then let’s just simplify it for the sake of everyones sanity lol. At the end of the day a players swing is a player swing. They aren’t going to change it drastically to make contact because they shouldn’t have to. If they couldn’t hit the ball they wouldn’t be in the MLB or let alone be a legend. I understand people can choke up on the bat and mentally tell themselves I’m going to have a shorter/quicker swing but at the end of the day that swing will be almost identical to their normal swing they will just a different approach mentally. Everyone has different exit velocities because everyone is built different, have different launch angles, etc. They just need to find a way to tie exit velocities into PCI placement and overall statistics of the card. How they do that I don’t know because I am a big dumbo but I can’t imagine it hurting the game at this point.

WHAT? Have you ever played baseball in your life? Do you have any concept of protecting with two strikes or slapping oppo on a hit and run? Guys change their approach all the time.

Probably more than you have pal. I played division one baseball. If you got higher than that ill tip my hat. But like you just said in your post “approach”. Having an approach is going into an at bat with a mental picture/scenario/idea of what you are looking for, what you expect (if you’ve been paying attention to the pitchers tendencies), and what you are going to do if you get what you expect…it’s legitimately all mental lol. The swing at its entirety won’t change. Now I can get on board with a hit and run because I’d consider it an extreme circumstance…which you may be correct on because you absolutely have to put your bat on the ball…regardless of location…so that is going to more than likely warrant a wonky swing unlike any of the normals ones. But go look at a majority of players 0-2 swing compared to a players 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 2-0 swing…sure they may stick their [censored] out and slap a few foul because they are either fooled or are trying to “keep the battle going, raise the pitchers pitch count” but when they actually take a good swing on a ball in or around the zone the swing is the same and that’s what I’m trying to get at. Good lord why does everyone on here have to be so hostile. I can agree with you on some 0-2 pitches where the batter pokes the ball foul and it looks hideous and clearly isn’t a normal swing and hit and runs but other than that their swing will be identical on singles, doubles, triples, home runs, swings and misses because consistency is what makes the elite players elite. You won’t have consistency if you have three different swings depending on different counts.

On another note anyone got any hall of fame advice so i stop sucking, some games i can get 17 hits other games i cannot hit a single pitch lol

My biggest piece of advice would be to take pitches early on in the game in order to decrease the pitchers stamina and hopefully confidence (if he throws more balls than strikes) and while doing that try to figure out your opponents tendencies. Once you feel like you have picked up on his tendencies start letting those hands fly baby.

From strike-zone hitting you totally can. I’d assume from any other hitting view it may be more difficult though since strike-zone is the closest view. My buddy told me the same thing though and I laughed and thought he was making stuff up. But then I just so happened to face him twice in ranked seasons (you can go back and check my game history) and you really can see his fingers and if there is space between them it’s a sinker/change-up and if there is no space (they are together) it is a slider. Crazy to think it’s in a video game but it is lol.

That would be too easy man. I know they are overwhelmed and understaffed, but the lack of communications regarding obvious flaws is almost comical. You'd think they would have replied by now, but no. They let the forum fill up with the same thing over and over and simply ignore it.

Yeah Collin looks at almost every post on here everyday. If that's true, they definitely have failed their community.

He had time to reply to a guy who challenged him to a game of DD. Not that special you would say, but that particular guy has been banned from this forums more times than I can count and made gazillions of alternate accounts, which also got banned. Collin knows this, he knows who he is. And yet, he felt THAT needed a response but he leaves this thread unanswered and ignored.

Don’t forget them replying to the scouting pack post. Gotta make sure they address the pack that gives you a couple silver and bronze players! It’s embarrassing at this point. The hitting engine absolutely has to change because it’s horribly broken and I’m not buying the whole feedback is wrong line they’ve been feeding the community for years now.
