@Jimmystick111_PSN 0 - 2 you are 90% of the time going to get a ball. It's even worse once you hit MLB, I've got more walks after going 0-2 in the MLB than I did in both AA and AAA.

    @GreenEydBndt_XBL It was...just about 1 month.

FYI finally got called up, it happened at the same time you guys posted. End of the 2nd month (2nd year) I was told I was hitting well and would be called up soon, with a 2x boost to exp. At the end of that week (which ended on the first day of month 3) I got called up to AAA.

I remember this advice from somewhere else (I forgot who/where, so sorry I can't give the credit). It goes something like this...The best way to practice with the PCI is to think of it as a catcher's glove, and the swing button is a catch button. I know it sounds simple, but it sort of rewires your perception...follow the ball with the "glove" and if the ball is in the glove press the button to catch it. Fastballs take some practice but offspeed will become crushed hits. I'd been playing MLB the Show for several years but when I tried thinking in that aspect my hitting got a lot better.

I think this way of thinking helped me out because I was always pulling offspeed pitches before, thinking I'm swinging into the ball path, not understanding that the bat actually swings faster than what you would think.

@Crane_MLBTS I checked out some Reddit threads and there are a ton of posts where people have Overalls in the 80s and still not called up. One person says he's in year 5 of AA (THAT is some patience). Apparently sometimes it's broken and sometimes people get called up right away. I may go through 1 more year and if I get sent down to AA again from Spring Training I'll be done.

One note...I remember simming like the last week of Spring Training in the year I am in, assumed I was staying and was anxious to get to the regular season. I wonder if that's what broke it on this character.

@PAinPA_PSN So yeah the AAA scrub they got has a 66 fielding, I've been pumping points into mine got it up to 63. Still no call up. I lead the AA team in every offensive category except triples. 77 Overall now so 12 over the SS they got playing 3rd in MLB. Just makes no sense.

Side question, are there certain time periods that call-ups happen? Do I just need to get closer to the All-Star break?

  • Mini-seasons get nerfed?
  • Precisionist99_XBLP Precisionist99_XBL

Anyone notice the AI has improved and rng has gone to [censored]? From last season to the beginning of this one I used mini-seasons to grind hitting stats. Now AI pitchers slider-spam, hardly ever miss in the zone, and good contact with 100+ power hitters fade at the warning tracks. This was the one mode a casual/bad hand eye coord player like me actually enjoyed playing (since they moved Conquest games to "simulation" style). I get the need for nerfing/balancing in the name of fair play for online games, but I mean mini-seasons is an offline mode why nerf it?

So hilarious update. 1 month into the second season of AA. I'm a 75 OVR, 12 more than the AAA guy. The MLB 3rd baseman...the Angels don't even have one, they have a 66 OVR SS covering 3rd. I'm leading AA in BA and HR's so far. At least I'm not getting the disappointed you aren't hitting more HR's speech anymore. Manager don't even talk to me. If I weren't on my favorite team I'd be requesting a trade, LOL.

Also I'm playing on Rookie. I've tried the lower settings (in another mode) and it actually screws my timing up big time because a 95 MPH fastball feels like a changeup. Since I play Mini-seasons and most Conquest games on Rookie I like a consistency on pitch speed.

I'm now in my second season of AA. I've got an overall of 73, which is highest on the AA team. We barely win any games because I'm in the Angels org. I lead the team in BA, doubles, OPS, and RBIs last season. I lead the Angels in BA in spring training yet still got send down to AA again in season 2. While I agree that older MLB the Shows made advancement too easy, wtf do I have to do in this one??? I made a power hitting 3B but I hit like 20 warning track shots for every HR. The coach keeps saying I'm a disappointment because I don't hit HRs. So if you make a "power" player you never advance without a ridiculous amount of HR's? Just would like a bump to AAA at this point. I've got like a zillion hours in this mode and it just feels impossible. Would there be any advantage to simming games at this point?

  • Disappointment...I don't get it
  • Precisionist99_XBLP Precisionist99_XBL

Created a power hitting 3rd baseman. I lead the team in rating (71), BA (.313), OPS, RBIs. Near the end of my first year in AA every time I meet with the coach he tells me I am a disappointment because I am not hitting enough HRs. I'm in the mid 70s in power and hit a ton of warning track shots, but only 6 over the fence. I get that they had to nerf it over previous RttS seasons as it seemed you always hit the pros by early year 2, but I'm a disappointment? Come on!

They're making TA more of a grind which is what people wanted because they go through it too fast then complain that they have nothing left to do

This is a legit argument. However instead of removing MtO completely out of the equation just restructure the points awarded. MtO was already a pretty inefficient way to get TA points anyways because of the time involved to complete, but some of us preferred that over some stupid HR moment with some guy swinging a wet noodle bat. The least fun thing to do in any MLB the Show game is to keep pressing "retry" over and over because your perfect/perfect swing died at the warning track. At least they fixed button being greyed out (to retry) while the animation goes on and on of the Center Fielder checking his glove for scratches, pan over to the pitcher picking his nose, the announcers lamely going "and cauuuught!".

  • Precisionist99_XBLP Precisionist99_XBL

The genius at SDS who decided "lets only award a few basic packs for playing MtO" needs to be fired and blackballed from the entire gaming industry. Absolutely the worst decision in the history of this franchise (ok maybe 2nd to "moments").

@BJDUBBYAH_PSN Same situation but ended up safe. No credit. Do you have to get thrown out? Does the bunt stat have to be below a certain point? Hate these "might work might not" challenges.

Thought Swordfish would be a K with a Marlin's pitcher, but did not work in Mini Seasons. I used Postseason Rob Nen, maybe it's gotta be a live pitcher?

I was also going to say it also seems a bit easier on Veteran than Rookie on Conquest games. I play on a 75" TV (with "Game Mode" set) and for some reason visually the slow pitches just dont match the visuals in Rookie, I am constantly pulling the ball. On my screen I swear I'm swinging into the ball, but then it's either pulled or miss (very early). I think maybe since Mini Seasons are using 95+ pitchers most of the time the pitch speed is more in line with the visual speed on my screen?

@Teak2112_MLBTS said in Homeruns in Rookie difficulty across DD modes:

In general miniseasons are worse for hitting

It does seem harder for doubles, since nearly every OF is a 95+ player. But HRs are definitely easier, I've played 8 games now in Mini Seasons and I'm hitting moonshots. I've even got a half dozen oppos which NEVER happens in Conquest games. It's such a drastic difference it's just puzzling why they nerf hitting in Conquest games. The most HRs I've ever had in a Conquest game was 3 (Coors field with wind at my back) in 100s of games. 8 games into Mini Series I have a couple of 4 HR games, none less than 2. I wish I had known this 2 seasons ago LOL. And using directional is just cheating, I do it occasionally for HR moments but it's not really fun.

So since the game came out I've mostly done Conquest games to get missions done. I'm not a great player so I mostly play on Rookie, although sometimes attack at Veteran in Conquest when required. I've noticed I'm hitting a lot less HRs this year compared to other years. So here's what I've noticed (rough estimates)...in Conquest games with a handful of 100+ power guys I'll hit HRs maybe once every 3 games. LOTS of warning track hits. I also play March to October sometimes (on Rookie) and hit HRs maybe every other game (with default [censored] rosters). I just started playing Mini Seasons (again with a handful of 100 power guys) on Rookie and I'm hitting 2 - 3 HRs a game! Shouldn't Rookie difficulty be the same across all modes? Mini Seasons against high 90s teams seems way easier than the Conquest games against default rosters.
