They definitely did say every Tuesday and Thursday. It’s unfortunate too because I have been very excited for these as well, then sad when I wake up and find nothing. I’m sure something came up though. Oh well! I don’t expect we get an explanation or anything.

a ton of people (myself included) use check swings to check our timing, and with a check swing, you get the feedback. I check swing on strikes in the zone, placed in a location I don't like. It's a strike either way, and I get specific feedback on my timing without making contact.
MLB guys do this on virtually every pitch. You see them go through their stride to time things up. The video game doesn't give us this option, so check swinging is the next best thing.
Do you check 35 times per game?
If I'm not actually swinging, I tend to check swing. Again, I get timing feedback, which is far more useful than sitting there and watching the pitch.
Work every pitch of every at bat, get as much data as possible, then use it to your advantage.
I don’t think you ever needed to check your timing 35 times in a game, also... those pitches were all out of the zone. How can a good hitter be fooled that often? Look at the pitcture I uploaded again
I hear you man, just giving you other explanations as to why/how people use the game mechanic.
I just played a 6 inning game (he dashboarded) against Nolan Ryan. I check swung at least 30 times, he threw over 100 pitches in 5 innings.
I work the count to death, but I take advantage of the ability to time pitches up in the mean time.
Thanks for confirming its an exploit.
Lol, I’ve seen Brev work pitch counts to 100+ pitches in 4 innings and never seen him checkswinging that much... yes, it’s an exploit, you’re getting bailed out too Lucas.
Again man in just glad its fixed.
Gonna be a lot of whiney ppl in 45 days lol
There are gonna be a lot of people whining to bring an exploit back and they are going to try to back it with all sorts of real game data in attempt at supporting their argument to bring back check swings.
“When Roberto alomar was in his 2nd year with the blue jays he had a game against the Yankees where he successfully check swung 47 times therefore it needs to be in the game because it’s possible”
My guess is you finding out that SDS saving the whole game with this check swing fix still isn’t going to be enough for you to be a top player.
Then just like all of 2020, you’ll come on here bitching about each and every loss and how SDS sucks, and you’re done with the game. It’s all good though, I’d be pissed too if after 13 years, in the easiest version of game to hit, I was only hitting .278.Hopefully you find peace one day because your bravado is absolutely unbearable on these forums!

Jump on any game right now aside from 20. And I’ll smack you in it. Wanna bet? You have no idea how good I was in this game. I beat top players literally all the time. Yes I’m not good in 20. I was however good in 19. My last 2 seasons I hit 347 with my last season going undefeated. World Series 4 times. The game actually grew on me although I felt like it was flawed.
Lol. I don’t care what you think. In 19 I made it to the round of 16 in an ESL tourney and consistently hit over .300. And a better winning % clip than you. None of that matters though because you could be the best player in the world but you’re still unbearable and never contribute anything positive to this forum. Let’s get rid of bunting too! And stealing! And pick off moves! I know stealing was super easy last year, so the obvious ONLY solution is get rid of it. Same with bunting. You just press a button on that right? I think people even won games because of that stuff so obviously that shouldn’t be allowed.
Let’s not shoot for any type of skill based game, anything that is too difficult to balance, calibrate, or even understand we either take it out of the game completely or make it full on RNG. That sound about right guys?

I have a good feeling that there is plenty more legends to come later as well. This is going to be a good year!
-
I'm starting out with opening a bunch of packs and flipping cards. Probably start Team Affinity grind too.
Then I'll hop into some Franchise to get a better feel for the pinpoint pitching and practice before diving into whatever DD has to offer in competitive modes.
Good luck to everyone this year and fingers crossed! -
I haven’t been deep into baseball for about 10 years now. But over the last year or two that’s taken a huge 180 and one thing that actively got me excited to do some research and dive back into the sport was these prospect and future star cards.
Besides watching All-Time greats win MVP and Cy Young awards and be great. I find the Rookie of the Year race and the prospects performing as one of the most exciting things in baseball. I say bring on more of the youth and future of the sport. It’s only a positive thing.

At the end of the day, I agree with you guys on how bad of a problem it was this past year.
Historically speaking, gameplay has been drastically different from the Beta each year so fingers crossed.
But halfbutt is right, whether it’s the check swings, foul tips, line outs, bunt cheese or whatever you want to name from that long list of junk. There will always be something keeping casual players competitive.
They need a complete makeover of the competitive format for this game. Again though, fingers crossed for 21

There was just a video on the MLB YouTube channel! It wasn’t exactly news though /: just welcoming Xbox users and reminding us of cross-platform play being available. I got excited for a second.

@pnwtroutbum_psn said in These check swings in 20:
Honestly, from a pitching perspective this is great! It might even finally push me from the 870s to WS. I never have a problem hitting either way so it doesn’t make or break me.
But these same guys or even me will be down by 1 in the 9th with 2 outs, 2 strike count going for our WS game. Pitchers gonna bang a slider, were all going recognize it isn’t as fat as it looks. It’s going to break just off the plate. We will make a just early or good timed check and get rung up. Game over. And I bet in that moment, you’ll be wishing the game had more balance. Guarantee it.
You are minimizing the problem to be something that wasn’t a big deal...and now it’s something in 21 that is impossible to do. I had plenty of check swings in the beta. It’s way way way more balanced like it is in 21
I just played a game where a guy successfully check swung around 150x in the game. That’s a huge gameplay issue. It’s keeping a person in the game that should be striking out they aren’t recognizing anything off speed and are just waiting on fastballs that’s fine...however there is a price to pay for doing that and people need to pay that price.
I check swung successfully right around 50 percent although that was never a huge part of my gameplay
The check swing in 20 was 100% with out a doubt a broken mechanic.
Please refer to my latest post where in no way am I minimizing a problem in 20. Where I stated I wanted that fixed. Where I stated my results with check swings. Which were wonky. All I want is balance man. And they just virtually went away with check swings besides a few random cookies.
Hitting has NEVER been my problem either. As I also said, this will probably only benefit me as is now in 21. But in good competitive spirit I feel like hitters have been robbed slightly too much. They should never be gifted, 20 was broken, but 21 is just as broken, just now in the pitchers favor. And just like in real life baseball there are situations where a hitter deserves a check swing.
I’m not even asking 50/50 lol. I’m just saying if it’s well timed and on a pitch that’s not 2 ft off the plate, then maybe be forgiving. If it’s like you’re stating, the extremes, ring them up! If they check more than once and keep getting fooled in an AB. Ring them up! If a ball bounces 3 ft in front of the plate, batter flails but checked, doesn’t matter, ring him up! I’ve already stated this.
And I’ve talked about ideas that seemed to be in the right direction of balance without being able to be exploited. Like giving a batter the benefit of the doubt if they check with just early to just late timing and the pitch is borderline. That’s a real life situation where a batter may check. And that’s what the button is for. In fact I just saw Kyle Lewis check a 2-2 slider. Nobody even appealed. He obviously held up and recognized it wasn’t a strike. Should we call the MLB and say he is taking advantage of a system? If he takes the bat off his shoulder, he swings? No. Obviously not. It’s apart of baseball and That’s what the button is there for and has the capabilities of. I’d say another start is making it not dependent of any attributes at all. It doesn’t have to be random and it can be skill based. Last year was random for the batter. This year is random for the pitcher. Literally 3 of 40 called in a 7 game stretch(again obviously not a check swing bandit, but obviously being punished because of them). I had fair timing on close pitches on about 10-15 of them. The 3 called for me, I know I swung so I was gifted and it didn’t feel right. I’m not even asking for all 15 of those other checks either. But I’m saying even if I only got those ones that had some skill involved, it’s still only a 25% clip. And I wasn’t abusing it. I’d like to think I use it sparingly based off those results.
I’m going to such great depth on this because trust me, just like you, I want a competitive game. And I’m trying to provide the most unbiased argument on this. But getting rid of check swings and just making them lucky cookies here and there doesn’t feel like it’s in good competitive spirit. It’s a lazy solution to something that will remain a problem.
And honestly, it doesn’t matter anyway, you know just as much as I do that things will be way different one week after launch anyway. The last 2 betas I participated in, felt like they had been the savior to all problems especially last year with pitching and hitting, but once launch happens, as has been for the last 3-4 years. Nothing really changes. I’m rooting for SDS to make a change with next gen, but I’ll wait a month or two before I get duped over a pre-release testing again.

No what I do is point out flaws that help scrubs. I praise the game when it’s good. I said nothing negative about the beta.
But sensitive soft easily offended people like you are the reason they’ve dumbed this game down.
I don’t BRAG what I do is defend myself because very low IQ people like you automatically assume because a person says something negative about the game they are bad. Well that prompts me to tell you how I have multiple 12-0 br runs and World Series runs over the years so obviously I’m not that guy. But you want me to be that guy because you want the game to cater to you.
I want the same thing as you dummy where are you even getting the stuff you’re saying? I want a competitive skill based game. And I could give a [censored] less about check swings anymore because as is in 21, it’s going to benefit me. I’ve said that. Im calling you out for how you act and you continue to prove it! So thanks for that
Let me put it this way. There is a very small percentage of people that are competitive in this game and you may be one of them. Numbers don’t prove it. But that’s besides the point.
My point is that these folks already have a minority opinion, based on what you say. I agree with that. You may be right about plenty of things but the way you go about it makes you look like an elitist [censored] and nobody takes you seriously. In turn, making the competitive community bad. Which, along the lines of everything else is why I’m calling you out, but you’re too in your head to realize that. -
Hello, I know the limit was today to put logos in the Vault for next year, is that over now? Or do I have until midnight tonight? I never saw a time.
Also I was wondering if anybody could help me, will rosters also be available in the vault next year? Did we ever hear any news on that? Thanks!

Another tip for store pick up options at Walmart, Best Buy, or target is don’t be afraid to drive a couple hours. My local target, in a more populated town, was sold out instantly but the store about an hour south, in no mans land, had multiple so I snagged two.
Just keep up with a lot of what these guys are saying though. Peep Twitter a few times a day and be persistent. It’s not too much effort and in the end it is soooo worth it. Good luck!

I don’t even think 50/50 is necessary, the pitcher does deserve a little more benefit of the doubt, like maybe 65-35 or 60-40: idk but that’s just my thing. It’s still random though is the only thing that bothers me, I’ve been averaging about 10ish check swings per game I play. Which I think is average, or fair. In the beta, I had 3 good timed checks in the same game go for strikes. And I might get 1-2 calls a game. Doesn’t make or break me. But the weird part is the ones where I feel like I’m doing everything right and I still getting those majority called strikes. And the worst part, more often than not, one or sometimes both of the swings I get called in my favor, I know I swung and got bailed. and it doesn’t feel good to get bailed out like that, just like it doesn’t feel great to see so many good timed check swing go for strikes. Everything that I’ve seen, appears to be random. Only now favoring the pitcher the same way it did the batters in 20. That’s fine, but only as an immediate action response, where I hope to see them balance it better in the future so it can’t be exploited but it can still be a tool.
At this point though I won’t lie, I’m all aboard the get rid of check swings train. It pains me to say it but they can’t seem to balance it, if it’s even possible to balance it.. the check swing bandits ruined it for the rest of us
️
Edit: sorry for another long post on the subject btw. Lol I’m on my phone and it’s easy to get lost. Just trying to be clear and remain as unbiased as possible. As a pitcher it’s great, but I care about hitting a lot too and see how this can hinder higher level guys, where every input matters and I don’t believe there is much room for randomness is all! ([censored], even my apology for going long went long
️)
I look at it like this I do agree it’s more random now. But I’d rather it be pro-pitcher then pro hitter because the hitter has the advantage to just not swing and take a pitch.
That’s what I’m saying. pitchers definitely deserve the benefit of the doubt, more than 50/50 in a random system, but definitely not 90/10 either.
I don’t think this is a make or break it thing at the end of the day, but I’ll be a little sad if I check swing with good timing on 3-2 count that I earned. 2 outs in the 9th, I read the pitch as it’s coming and since I’m not a robot, I can’t tell if it’s on the black or not. It’s close. 2 strikes though, gotta protect. It’s very close but I read it’s going to break off the plate and with good timing, I manage to check my swing. I’d say I earned the walk. Oh well. Strike 3. Game decided for you, input didn’t matter. That’s all I’d rather avoid, but overall I’d love them to find a balance that calls strikes on people flailing way early/late on pitches 2 ft off the plate (this was the most egregious one IMO) and then also a system where good timed or just early checks are rewarded more often. Consecutive check swings get punished, regardless of input after a certain number to avoid bandits.. but I don’t think the bandits are checking with good timing every time anyways, guarantee you on my life they’re not doing it with good timing. They’re the flailers.. Haha. but anyways.. Etc. etc etc. the point is that I don’t think any of that’s out of line.
I’m not a developer and have no idea how it works but something like that would be what I’d strive for. It feels more fair than random. Who knows if it’s possible though? Not for SDS, no offense at all, we just haven’t seen it, at least for a long while. Maybe my expectations are too high? Idk man, I just hate randomness overriding inputs and as little as this seems, every pitch counts in a competitive mode, especially in the 700s-800s. Someone go ahead and tell me I’m wrong and why. that’s fine, but I play this game a lot and have for a long time. I’m only trying to come at this as fair and unbiased as possible. This feels like a way better solution, or at least the start of one because there’s PLENTY more depth, rather than randomizing ANOTHER part of the game.
I swear I’m done ranting on the subject after this btw

It's an unfortunate fact that no matter what, this company will manage to screw something up.
Been playing this game for a decade. Visited this forum off and on for 2 or 3. They turn a bunch seemingly decent human beings(at least from my interactions here over the years) and gets them all acting like savages towards one another over something THEY goofed on.. weekly. It usually goes on just like this too.
One person complains about something. Someone gets offended or decides to complain about the complainer. Then boom. Chaos. Sucks SDS has created an environment when most positive threads last 10-20 posts and threads like this one carry on for 70+ and flood the boards, more often than not.Broke my heart not to buy the game this year, first time in 10 years. But i couldn't throw another $100 at them and then be entrenched in this exact mess. Especially when it was almost guaranteed server issues would happen.
Hope they figure it out eventually, I'd love to pick this game up down the road again. Fingers crossed, but we've been saying that for I don't know how many years now.
