At this point, may as well give every MLB player a diamond card. Future stars, Topps Now, Postseason, and now Finest for every team. Overkill of non deserving players.
I'm fine with special circumstances ie no hitters, or postseason hero cards. I'm even fine with finest as a "team of the year" type reward. But to go the All Star Game participation route and just give every team a high diamond is dumb.
If you ask me though there is at least one player from every team except for pittsburgh that has a good enough season to warrant a finest card though
Remember all the complaining that Joe Carter got a 93 rated boss card? Not deserving, is what I heard many times. Carter hit the walkoff WS HR that will live forever. Brosseau got a 97 rated card for a walkoff in the ALDS. Semien gets a 98 rated card, and Molitor still sitting with a 96. He was WS MVP and hit .500 with 1.000 slugging. That's not even mentioning that Molitor inexplicably never got a Brewers card.
Lee Smith was all time saves leader at one point. John Franco is 5th all time. Their career cards apparently arent worthy of a higher rated card than 2020 postseason relievers.
Now we will get hugely inflated cards from a 60 game season that will be better in attributes than Babe Ruth or higher rated than Whitey Ford. I would say that what we have seen with inflating non deserving cards has been extremely overboard.
