What should be the first thing I do in the game when The Show 21 drops?
  • chiprocks1_XBLC chiprocks1_XBL

A lot to digest for sure. But looking forward to playing everything in the game. Personally, I want to play full games....every inning...every pitch. No stimulated games for me. As for the music, I tend to disable that with all games just to take it out of the equation if I upload to YouTube.

For me it's Keibert Ruiz. Hits better than a lot of the top players I have on my Roster.

Not a Giants fan, but Candlestick Park with mini tornado in Left Field would be nice. 😄

Thanks for the helpful tips. Appreciate it. I forgot to ask before (new to The Show franchise), but does the game have anything like Legends Play? Can I create a team with the likes of Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Cy Young, etc....? And then play using said team, be it for online competition or offline play? Just curious.

So, with MLB The Show FINALLY coming to Xbox, what should I focus on first when I get 21? What are the major things that I should head to first and what should I avoid (if there is any). Yes, complete newbie to the series. Glad that its finally here. Also, what should I buy and not buy within the game. I'm not familiar with the ins and outs and all that within the game. Thanks in advance.

    Okay. Cool. Thanks guys.

No problem. I suggest you pick up any of the really cheap silver or bronze legend cards if you don't have them. You can find them on the market at the link below. They're all around quick sell value for now, but may become more rare when more collections are released.

Community Market legends under 500 stubs

What exactly are "collections" within this game? Is it an event of something like that? Or is it just collect X,Y,Z of a particular player to reap rewards?

You lock in a certain number of cards so you can no longer sell them on the market (they can still be used in game) and then you get an exclusive card. There are smaller collections like the prospect one that went live this week. I think that was collect 10 prospects for some new diamond prospect I don't know. That caused the other prospect cards to jump up in price.

Eventually there will be huge collections where you need to collect a lot of cards from various types (all-star, post-season, rookie, breakout, etc) to get one of the best cards in the game. In 19 that was 99 Honus Wagner, and in 20 it was a 99 Mike Trout. Those collections end up being expensive, so it helps if you can knock out some of the cheaper cards before supply dries up.

Thanks for the heads up. So when it comes to buying cheap cards (with the link you sent), is there a benefit to buying multiples of the same card (just like in real life) in this game? And then flip those extra ones when they go up in price? Not sure if that is the norm for this game....I imagine it is.

There is a benefit to an extent. Those are likely to be a longer term investment that could take quite some time to pay out. You could spend thousands of stubs buying them up now and potentially make a decent profit later, but that could be months. Topps Now would probably be a safer bet since we all know they will be needed for a collection at the start of June, but the cat is out of the bag already based on what happened last month. Lots of people already have the same idea, and cards haven't dropped as low as they were last month. That means potentially less profit to be made, and more competition when trying to sell at the start of June.

A lot of people will invest in cards that can become rare, or live series cards that could potentially see an upgrade, but for me personally I prefer shorter investments. I flip cards on the market with 1-2k profit per flip. When the market is moving at a good clip (usually at night) I might have 10 different cards coming and going as quickly as I can post orders while I'm watching TV. I make a good amount of stubs in a single night this way, and I don't have stubs tied up in long term investments. So far I've finished the AL live series collection and I'm a few cards away from finishing the NL after maybe 4-5 serious nights of flipping and a few good pack pulls. I wasn't really using the market much early on with all the server issues and the website constantly lagging.

If you are going to flip, my advice would be to stick with cards you wouldn't be upset if you lost, and you wouldn't be upset if you got stuck with. For example, I was flipping the milestone Cavan Biggio when he was in the 30-40k range. I sold him and stopped checking the market for a while. Next time I went on he was in the 65-75K range. Now, I could buy him back, but at this point that's 30K more than the last time I bought him , and it's a card I don't really need. If he ever goes back down I may pick him up, but for now he's out of my range and I've turned my attention elsewhere.

You could also end up in a situation where you're flipping a card worth 15k, and something happens and his value drops down to 7-8K. Now you can eat that loss and just sell him, or you can decide you're okay with keeping him around.

The market can fluctuate quite a bit, so you just have to make sure you don't risk anymore than you're willing to lose.

Thanks for the very informative breakdown. This helps a lot!!
