    The hitting was perfect SDS...
  • carey_56_PSNC carey_56_PSN

The hitting engine was so great... so great. I was having the most fun I’ve ever had playing The Show.

Why did you change hitting? Because a couple little pissbabies couldn’t shut their mouths for once and be satisfied with the state of the game? It was great. I don’t care that game scores were up. Hitting felt so rewarding. A squared-up ball was hit hard and a perfect-perfect ball was hit even harder.

Now you’d be lucky to get an exit velo over 100 on a perfect swing... and that’s with some of the best hitters in the game. Hitting has never felt so unrewarding. It’s so frustrating.

On behalf of all the community, I am begging you to change the hitting back to what it was pre-patch. It was perfect the way it was.

If I went up against someone spamming KB after KB I agree I would say their cheese also. And would quickly figure them out. But if dude is mixin the FB in also peppering the paint and corners then I’d give them props. It’s only a matter of time to figure one’s pattern and frequency but for a solid inning I’ll continue “exploiting” till SDS figures something out I guess

    Feirabend is a 49 OVR...

I don’t care how good you are at pitching, no pitcher rated that low should be that effective. Put another common pitcher on the mound and see how he does, I’m sure it won’t even be CLOSE. I wonder why that would be the case? Maybe because he has a broken pitch exclusive to only him 🤔?

  • The new “perfect/perfect” mechanic is great
  • carey_56_PSNC carey_56_PSN

I’m seeing a lot of posts on here of people trashing the game and I just can’t understand why. Good swings are getting rewarded and the overall feel of the new hitting engine is just more realistic (e.g., balls hit on the edge of the PCI are hit off the edge of the bat).

Every time I’ve taken a perfect/perfect swing, the ball is always hit very hard. More often than not, it’s a hit. What more could you ask for?

Overall, the game looks awesome. If you wanna complain, give it at least a couple of days. You definitely have not seen enough to say it’s bad. It’s definitely not worse than 18.

  • Honestly guys hitting should be the least of our worries
  • carey_56_PSNC carey_56_PSN

It’s not terrible. Still inconsistent, but not bad. You know what is bad?

    • The servers: Both my ranked losses this season were because of disconnects.
    • Pitching: It’s impossible to hit your spot and way too many fastballs go right down the middle with good/good release.
    • Fielding (specifically outfielding): It’s so bad. It’s the worst mechanic out of anything in this franchise I’ve ever seen. 1.08 definitely DID NOT fix fielding. If I’m being honest, before the patch I wasn’t even having issues defensively. After the patch? Absolute circus in the outfield. Mike Trout dropped four routine fly balls in my game last night. Mike Trout. As a subpar pitcher (partially my fault/partially the game’s fault), I need every out I can get. If I can’t rely on one of the game’s best defenders, who can I rely on? Also, I’ve had a bad issue where my outfielders will run in circles around balls up against the wall instead of picking them up. This has also costed me so many extra base hits and runs.

The game is honestly borderline unplayable with these issues.

  • If You’re On The Fringe
  • carey_56_PSNC carey_56_PSN

Come on bro it’s day one, give the game some room to breathe 😂.
In my opinion the hitting engine looks a lot better and catcher blocking seems to have drastically improved. Game looks good.

  • I’m not even a bad player...
  • carey_56_PSNC carey_56_PSN

...but this game has so many problems. For me, it’s almost unenjoyable.

    Hitting:

    • HoF is bad
    • Legend is atrocious
    • PCI is way too small on higher difficulties
    • Hitting feedback is inconsistent (e.g., my most recent game, my opponent’s Pearson threw Trout a fastball on the outer third of the plate; I stayed back on it and centred my PCI up just about perfectly = Good/Okay, 92 exit velocity, groundout)
    • Ball feels dead off the bat even if it’s hit hard
    • Good/Okay fly balls are more effective than Perfect/Perfect grounders
    • High sinkers are broken and appear way faster than their actual velocity
    • Knuckleballs... well you know

    Pitching:

    • Good input rarely results in the ball being thrown where it was placed
    • Borderline pitches are rarely called strikes
    • Pitchers with slower fastballs are ineffective
    • Opponents are allowed to check swing too often when their timing is Too Early or Very Early (in my opinion, if you’re that badly fooled, it should be a swing no matter what)
    • Stamina regeneration is broken — you only need three starters; the way players use their fourth and fifth pitchers is unrealistic (e.g., I’ll be losing by a couple runs in the fourth inning and my opponent will bring in a starter to relieve his current starter)

    Defense:

    • Infielders take bad routes to balls which leads to a lot of undeserved infield singles
    • Corner outfielders jog to balls down the line which allows the base runner to take an extra bag
    • Outfielders are slow rounding ground balls which allows the base runner to take an extra bag
    • Lining up perfectly with the blue line doesn’t always make the outfielder run up on the ball; sometimes they just lazily camp under it instead

Sad part is, these flaws are probably just barely scratching the surface.

Edit: I’d be fine with the pitching and fielding issues if the hitting engine wasn’t in such rough shape. That’s what really kills the game for me.

  • Remove All Star difficulty from Ranked Seasons
  • carey_56_PSNC carey_56_PSN

To be honest, I don’t find All-Star difficulty to be that bad this year. I actually find it kind of fun. Fun enough to get me playing BR. I definitely don’t experience “All-Star hell” anymore. What’s also nice is that if you make World Series, you start in Division Series, which reduces the amount you have to play on All-Star quite a bit. Overall, big thumbs up from me on how All-Star plays this year. 👍

Just the growing pains of using directional dude. I was there before. Eventually you’ll realize you need to make the switch.

I use directional against the CPU on All Star with default sliders and I get realistic contact results for the most part, its perhaps a little over powered and needs some slight tweaks. These HUGE slider changes that SDS has made makes it impossible to hit on directional. Of course I only am playing because of covid. I took a break from the game last year after playing it for 10 years because its the same things year after year that are wrong with the game. I guess they got lucky there was a pandemic and people like me purchased their game.

You posted about this earlier and I asked you for proof that they indeed adjust sliders. You never replied. I'm not surprised by that, because you don't have any. Now I learn you use directional hitting. I think you need to switch to zone and get better at the game instead of complaining about "adjusted sliders and stealth changes".

I like real baseball, you know, simulation results. Not arcade. Not using zone, never have, never will. If its the last time I play this game because they cater to the arcade crowd, so be it.

Wouldn’t using directional be more “arcade” then using zone? Directional just requires user to swing when they believe timing is right and using zone requires user to line up zone to where the pitch actually is?

Do MLB players have a PCI that they wiggle around so they can hit every pitch? No they have to time their swing correctly.

But they have to use hand eye coordination, similar to zone? NOT saying real baseball is easy at all, just making the statement for the sake of this conversation.

Directional is my hand eye coordination to swing at the right, or wrong time, and the players attributes do the rest. Zone players lay down perfect drag bunts with pitchers just because they got the PCI in the right location, is that realistic? Pitchers can barely bunt when they set up for it, let alone drag bunt.

When you bunt on zone the PCI disappears.

  • Another year of ruining the game after release
  • carey_56_PSNC carey_56_PSN

I honestly find it criminal that the hitting engine was changed so much so shortly after release. I was on the fence about purchasing this year’s game but once I saw the new hitting engine on stream, I thought I’d give it another kick at the can. Lo and behold they change it two days in. Sigh.

Even just the idea of them changing the hitting engine frustrates me. This isn’t the beta, this is the final released product. Massive changes to anything should’ve happened back in the development stages, not now. Oh well, I should’ve saw it coming. Seems to happen every year.

  • I talked bad about SDS and now they coded the game to troll me
  • carey_56_PSNC carey_56_PSN

Why would someone be hitting with their pitcher in the bottom of the ninth...

Edit: lol I just checked your game history and you’re lying.

In the first game, none of what you said happened. You allowed a base runner by intentionally walking a dude and then Gallo, not his pitcher, hit a home run.

In the second game, yes, your opponent’s Kluber did hit a bomb, but it was after you walked his Lindor. So none of your outfielders dropped anything. Don’t know how you thought that happened.

I play NBA 2K as well and there is a game that is nowhere near reality when it comes to the cards they release. It just seems like SDS is following along. I would much rather play with cards that have realistic stats instead of this fantasy land garbage.

Live series cards are 100% worthless and that’s a shame

This is one of the reasons why I miss 17 so much. You could actually take the field with a team of live series players and compete. Guys like Trout, Harper, Bryant, Lindor, etc. They were usable!

Now the best player in the MLB, who is already a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer, and could very well go down as the greatest player of all time, sits at a 95 OVR. He’ll probably get a better card (e.g., a 99 Signature Series or something), but that’s completely stupid because he’s never been better. That’s why these fantasy cards [censored] me off. They pretty much make live series/single season cards useless.

    Pepe
    Mantle
    Mays/Beltran
    A-Rod

Nah, Mays last year was better than Mantle

I’ll take a switch hitter anyday and mantle had very similar stats

Go back and look they weren't that similar and using zone switch hitting is pretty irrelevant.

Even prestiged Mantle isn't as good of a fielder (Mays 98, Mantle 90) lower steal rating (90 to 83) meaning when stealing Mays should get better jumps, add up their hitting ratings (Contact, Power, vision) and Mays 571 Mantle 559

Those are Prestige Mantle ratings vs Mays in a game that there wasn't an ability to be prestiged, if you could prestige Mays last year it's not even close

Mays is the best "Real player" that we've ever seen in MLB the show

I really miss having Willie Mays in center field. Mantle is great and all, but there was just something so special and exciting about Mays that Mantle just doesn’t seem to have.

    Willie has my vote.

The biggest thing that bothers me is that Mike Trout, who might go down as the greatest baseball player ever, mixes out at a 95. How much better does he need to be to get a 99? That’s his live series card, which is supposed to reflect how good he is currently.

It's on purpose, you can't sell a 99 immortal/SS/Finest Trout if the LS is at 99. It is what it is, won't change, so I tend to just not get hung up about it.

I know, but I just wish they would do away with those super-mega fantasy cards. I want live series cards to still be useful at the end of the year.
