The upvotes and other posts here clearly show this is not a popular move by SDS.

Yeah...some of my Conquest games on Rookie have been sweaty of late.
What's odd is I make great contact. Hit the ball hard af...mostly for outs.
Had an inning where CPU threw 3 pitches...I hit all 3 Perfect-Perfect...and I went down 1-2-3. LOL.
I mean...it happens, I guess. Just feels like I'm playing in the "dead ball era" when I play Conquest games.

All the shills out in full force to combat this backlash I see…
No one has a problem with nicknames…it’s the execution of this that’s the problem.
The players don’t have names on their jersey. Certain names show up as BLANK on the scoreboard and in-game graphics.
Just use the name of the player and put the nickname on the card art. K.I.S.S.!
The way they’ve executed it is just awful.

How do they manage to consistently break their game with “updates”?
-
And some of you find this interesting and...ummmm....strategic? How exactly?
I really thought this community was more intelligent than this.
Seriously, we have HR Derby cards in April, less than a month after the game was released?
Just what we need....more cards with 115+ in Power Vs both R & L.
Can SDS at least give those of us with IQs above 70 a Salary Cap mode to actually compete at something that involves an OUNCE of baseball STRATEGY?
Most of the reward cards are utterly useless. Some already have better versions (99's) available in the Marketplace.
Disappointing to see the DUMBED DOWN direction SDS has decided to take this mode.

Well...some people (cough cough) were telling everyone this was nothing more then a "money grab" from the jump.
"SDS would never do that!" was a very common response.
Look...I get it, they want to make more money.
But...don't pee on my head and tell me it's raining.
Maybe the WORST part of it was having to hear the fanboys and shills try to explain how that wasn't the case and that this was going to make the mode better.
It was funny how they tried to say this was all about getting "more lineup variety"...as if SDS actually cares that everyone uses the SAME lineups.
This was about creating a constant demand for OP'd cards, while limiting the supply of those cards so that players who want the best, newest, shiniest cards will have to eventually fork over some money and buy some Stubs for them.
They know based on their numbers who will buy Stubs and when they will buy them. They know what players will NEVER buy Stubs...and they know which players will ALWAYS buy them...especially the one's who buy them to create content...so that they can get views...so that they can make money.
That's why they had to throw Streamers a bone with the No Sell Battle Royale rewards.
SDS knows that in the long run, Streamers are some of their BEST customers...because they are basically using YouTube ad revenue to buy Stubs.
The Streamers will love it too because it gives them even more new cards to create videos about.
Remember that last part when you start seeing Streamers make videos telling you how AWESOME this new way of doing things is...
Don't forget that they have a vested, monetary interest in telling you it's a GOOD thing.

They did 99s at launch for one reason…to make more money.
More specifically, they did it to increase revenue at the beginning of the game cycle right after launch.
Let me explain what I mean…
Remember when this game comes out…
End of March/early April. That’s 6 months after NBA 2K comes out, so it’s run it’s course by then with most players.
Madden comes out about 4.5 months later.
That gives them a solid 4 months to really make profits as the newest sports game/ultimate teams mode out there.
99s at launch created excitement and interest…and likely increased sales of the game and Game Pass downloads.
Just speaking about the sales part of things, it’s always better for SDS to sell a copy of the game (especially digital) for $70 at launch then it is to sell a copy of the game later at a sale price.
Revenue also comes from selling Stubs. The early 99 cards enticed people to spend more on Stubs at launch. They had to in order to buy some of the best cards without grinding their life away.
They also bought Stubs to complete the LS collections. The best time to sell Stubs for that is early in the game cycle when LS cards still have the most value.
This is also the reason they took some of the most popular players and made them the LS rewards like Jeter, McGwire, and Sosa.
Doing it like this, they try to MAXIMIZE their profits before a large portion of the player BASE jumps over to Madden. The most loyal Show players will stick around after that, and the ones who spend money, will continue to do so. But If they don’t get money from the players who jump ship in August in that “window” they won’t have a chance to until MLB 24.

This is funny to me.
Let's be honest, if 2K or EA dropped their game with alll these 99s from Day 1 of Pre-launch and then told everyone that many of the cards they were grinding for and buying were going to be UNPLAYABLE online in a matter of months...oh man...can you imagine the OUTRAGE!?!?!
Can you imagine the number of posts and tweets and YouTube videos about how "money hungry" they are...and how it's all about "pay to win"?
This mode now has ZERO strategy, it's literally about loading up with overpowered cheese cards with 125 in every stat from Day 1! They've devalued all the cards people get as Rewards...and made it so that EVERY team in Ranked is just stacked with these juiced WBC cards. I literally play the same cards almost every game, and it's been that way for over two weeks.
And why do they also get a pass on how BUGGY their game is?
I mean...I have overlays with the Orioles and Red Sox logos dropping down on the screen in the middle of Ranked Seasons games. LOL!
It's a shame. Because the actual gameplay is solid, especially when you play Ranked Online games with real teams and real players and not these ridiculously juiced cards that turn the game into Slow Pitch Softball 23 - Welcome to The Slow!

Disappointing to see the DUMBED DOWN direction SDS has decided to take this mode.I don't see any point in insulting every gamer who may like the current setup. Especially since Online Diamond Dynasty has never been a mode about "Baseball Strategy".
I'm not a fan of the Sets and Seasons myself but I don't fault those who enjoy it. If I wanted real baseball strategy then I would stick to Franchise mode or play a game like Out of The Park baseball where it is all strategy.
I don't think you understand, the OP is far above anything else, if he doesn't like it, no intelligent person would, he's probably weighed all the positives and negatives over tea in Cambridge and come to the hypothesis that the lower your intelligence is, the more you prefer the system.
Nope.
I'm just a simple man who realizes that playing a team full of 99's Vs someone else with a team full of 99's isn't fun or interesting.

I'm fine with having a Clutch rating so there is a change in the Contact rating with RISP.
But it can't just be ONE rating. That's silly.
You have Con R & L...you have Pow R & L.
So...why is there no Clutch R & L??
The current way of doing things makes R-R and L-L matchups with RISP irrelevant.
The only thing that matters is the "Clutch" rating of a Hitter and the PCLT rating of the Pitcher?
That makes literally ZERO SENSE.

You want to hide records???
Shoot…you can barely even see them now. If you skip the opening and/or blink or take a sip of coffee or look at your phone for two seconds…you don’t even see the record.
The more important part of this post is the issue of why people CARE sooooo much about their record. It’s kind of embarrassing.
I’ll often get messages and comments about my record…because it looks bad. But I played all the goons in early access…and routinely play with watered-down lineups.
It’s funny when I get messages about my record…and then my opponent rage quits after 4 innings while losing. They always message me their excuse too.
It couldn’t possibly be that my terrible record against good players with lesser lineups has made me better than their good record with nothing but 99s against bums…
-
I have no issue with them being on the long side.
But…when you make them long AND you put a deadline on when the cards can be used (Sets)…then I think that’s a problem.

80% of runs come from homers. It’s been this way for every mlb the show ever made, at least online. This game will never be close to realistic online
But how are people playing the mode compared to how real MLB players do?
Everyone who plays is trying to hit a homer every at bat. Then they get mad when there are too many dingers.
No one is shortening up their swing in this game. But you will see situational baseball in a real game. Yes, even in the year 2023.
I've actually had some success swinging for Contact in online games. This is like a major no-no for The Show players, so you never see it happen. And thus, all you see is a game dominated by homers and strikeouts.

First 1-2 weeks of play everyone has at least 97 rated players up and down their roster. So, if you play online you're playing against the same level teams
So your issue is that you're playing on a level playing field and getting smashed online?
Also, every time i see posts like this, i cant help but think the issue some people have with 99s so early is the fact that they cant just grind BR and events all day while manipulating the market and keeping the prices high for people who dont grind online but still want the cards.
How TF do some of you turn these posts into about how skilled/good someone is at the game???
Sorry, his post said NOTHING about winning or losing.
What is fun or strategic about playing with all 97/99's?
I'd really LOVE to see just ONE person who says they LIKE this new way of doing things to give a mature, logical, intelligent explanation as to WHY that's the case.
Nope. It's like you're incapable of it. And then people call me "elitist" for saying that SDS has done nothing but DUMBED DOWN Diamond Dynasty this year. And I think time will tell us that they've done so for one reason - PROFT. But unlike EA and Take2...no one will call them out for it.
The one thing no one in here has answered when asked is....whats the difference when your team of 88-90 is facing another full team of 88-90? Whats the difference when your team full of 93-95 is against another team of 93-95? What about when your team of 97 is against another full team of 97s?
There is exactly zero difference in any of that and the way it is now except the fact that we see a higher number in that shiny blue diamond on the top corner of the card. Get over it.
Anyone who’s played this game knows the difference.
First off, the game is going to play different with all these 97/99 cards especially ones with multiple 100+ hitting ratings. The game is also going to play different seeing as the amount of content of 97/99 hitters has outpaced the amount of 97/99 pitchers.
The second difference is it made a huge portion of cards completely irrelevant.
How many Live Series Captains have you played against or used? Collecting the LS collections for the card you got as a reward used to be a great way to build your team.
How many of those cards even got used?
Almost none.
And that move took the new Captain “boosts” tied to those cards and also made them irrelevant. Which made the idea of people actually having an incentive to use LS cards irrelevant too.
What was the point of 98% of these cards?
I’ve barely seen any of them used. But I see WBC Lindor, Murikami, Santander, and Trout in almost EVERY game I play.
It honestly feels like they mapped out the content for the mode…and then one day a week before launch someone decided to bump all this content up and do 99’s from Day 1.
The question I’ve seen no one answer is what were the point of these Choice cards you got thru TA? What were the point of the LS Captain rewards for LS collections? What was the point of these Captains like Andrus and Gimenez, etc?
Is it even possible to get a Tier 3 boost with “Veteran” and “Breakout” cards? Why is there no “Rookie” or “2nd Half” captain?
The point of these cards was just to have one more notch on the way to Jazz, Trea, and Chipper/Babe/Pedro?
If they hadn’t flooded the market with all these 97/99’s maybe we would have actually seen people fight to complete LS Collections to use cards like Salmon, Musial, Snider, Rivera, etc, etc…
But there was literally no incentive to do that. And definitely zero incentive to actually PLAY WITH those cards. Not when they were instantly outclassed on Day 1 by those crazy juiced WBC cards.
Sorry…but anyone who has played the mode for more than a year or two knows the game plays a little different with 90s VS 90s then it does with 97/99s VS 97/99s.
Jumping everything up to 97/99s then makes even more cards absolutely unplayable.
If I know my opponents will be using a majority of the “meta” 88-92 cards…I can still get away with selectively playing some 80-85 cards…maybe with the goal of trying to Parellel them. Or play some 70-80s with a Captain boost!
But…doing that against a team full of 97/99s is just putting you at a severe disadvantage. One that only the top players in the world are going to be able to overcome
Take a step back and look at all the content and then look at how it’s all been used. Dropping the 97/99s this early did nothing but make 95% or more of the content unusable. It made lineup variety almost non-existent.
We’re approaching the end of Season 1…and I don’t think it’s been good for the mode.
I’m sure SDS has stats on cards used…and I bet the stats are heavily tilted to about 30-40 cards…and I may be overestimating that.
You think that’s a good direction for the mode from Day 1?

Are we sure Meter pitching isn’t just broken?
I’ve been using Meter…and it’s felt broken all year. I have pitches I barely miss the meter on that go 5 feet out of the zone.
Then I have pitches where I miss the meter by a lot…that are only a few inches off.
I’ve had inputs that show Perfect on my screen…and then register as Very Early on the feedback.

They need to do one thing well rather than overwhelm us with a ton of stuff that has no connective tissue and feels like a cornucopia of madness.
The "connective tissue" phrase really resonated with me. In the past, we had these nice, organized Collections of "Future Stars", "Signature", "Awards", etc. I could look at my "binder" and easily see where I stood. Now, everything is jammed into "Set 1", etc.
I spent a good 15 minutes last night trying to figure out if I wanted to try and get another 17 cards to finish Set 1 and grab Pedro. Then I remembered that Set 1 will "expire" in another month. So... I guess not.
Now that I'm 2 weeks into Set 2 and the TA2 grind, I'm just kind of burned out. I'm dreading season 3. Bummer.
BTW... WHERE ARE MY PROSPECT CARDS???
I will say one thing they failed to realize was what you mentioned about Pedro.
Those of us who are behind on Sets now have a reason NOT to complete them.
It can be frustrating to feel like “what’s the point”…
Which is the point some people are at right now if they are in the spot you are,

Wtf type of comment is this?
The gameplay is broken, and your answer is to tell someone to quit?
What…are all the SDS employees with shill accounts having drinks after the company cookout tonight and posting while hammered?
Geez.

SO...making the game EASIER is a good thing?
I disagree.
Personally, I'd like it better if it was hard to get the best cards.
I fail to understand what is interesting or fun about playing with a team full of 99s against someone else with a team full of 99s. What does this simulate in the game of baseball?
-
I'm not a fan of this. Live Series cards are nothing more than filler. Unless they are SuperCharged.
92 Diamond Captains are already outclassed by these ridiculous WBC cards. Why do I need to grind for them?
It's turned Diamond Dynasty, for anyone who plays online, into a battle of lineups full of 99s.
80% of the cards I see in Ranked games are the OP'd WBC cards. Mix in some of the 97s and 99s here and there. And the occasional SuperCharged Live Series cards.
Every team has Trout or Ohtani...or both.
The new two-way player nonsense has made Ohtani a reliever and a closer too. Starter - Ohtani - closer. That's what I see 80% of the time in Ranked.
If this is the way they are taking the mode, then they need some type of CAPPED mode. Like Battle Royale, but instead of drafting, you have a CAP to use for your lineup and you can use cards in your collection. 9 inning games like Ranked.
Use a cap with a certain number of Diamond/Gold/Silv/Bronze etc...or just use the ORGINAL Overall rating for the card.
26 roster spots...a team full of 99s would have a number of 2574. 99 multiplied by 26.
So set the cap number at different levels.
Do people really play this mode to just have teams full of 26 99's go against each other?!?!?!?
Shoot...calling some of these cards 99s is an understatement, when they often have 125s in multiple ratings. This has really gone off the rails.
I won't be playing much longer. And the game is basically brand new.

These days roughly 2/3 of hits in MLB are SINGLES.
In The Show...it's almost like it's inverted. 2/3 of hits are HOMERS!
Seriously, why is it so bad?
66% singles
20% Doubles
2% Triples
12% HR'sThat's the actual breakdown.
And I get it...it's a video game. People want to hit bombs, The numbers don't have to be exact, but they aren't even close. They actually might be inverted!
It's almost a HR or nothing. Doubles come when you barely miss a HR.
Why are those of us who actually like baseball forced to play what is essentially HR derby?
Give back real names

Sorry SDS. But this cartoon junk ruined the game. At least for me.
Commentary Update 8
