That's crazy. I'm not even a Rays fan and you just mentioned two of my most wanted suggestions:

Ben Zobrist - I don't think I can accurately relay just how much I miss his card. I remember his final two years in The Show he had a 94 overall Flashback of some sort and it was in my lineup from the moment I got it to the very last game I played in both those seasons. His swing was unbelievably good and he was just so clutch. In a lot of ways, he was like an even more juiced Adalberto Mondesi for me in those games.

Fernando Rodney - I used to get bashed by some folks here in the forums and on r/MLBTheShow because I considered his high-90s Flashback diamond card to be one of the best right-handed relievers in the game. I don't know exactly what it was about his circle-change but I had a ton of success with him just pitching mostly off that.

You guys have clearly been brainwashed by the marketing department. (I'm kidding... sort of)

"You start in March and it's a double meaning!" Sure, I guess? Would you really argue against it though if they did actually update the ratings? Personally, I thought the whole thing was just a very obvious and not at all subtle way to make the laziest Franchise mode imaginable and then they decided on the name to ensure that they wouldn't actually have to do any maintenance or updates throughout the year.

... and for the record, I do enjoy the mode but there are so many things that irk me about it; this being one of them. And they do update the actual roster once or twice after release so it's clearly something that can be done. I can understand not updating after the Trade Deadline because that would make a lot less teams less fun and desirable to start one up with but I do wish that we at least had the option to choose for ourselves. Even if it disables Team Affinity progress then whatever... at least they'd be satisfying both sides of the argument here.

EA's NHL has a really cool Stanley Cup thing where it lets you choose who you want to pass the cup to and then skate around with numerous players celebrating.

You could do these yourself, ya know? Just click on the player in the View Roster page in your Franchise and give them the correct pitches. For Luzardo, just take the 12-6 Curve's break and control ratings and put them in for the Slurve.

That Kosuke Konsah (?) card.
I've never hit a single with him. It's either a home run or a double/triple.

Every year I enjoy the mode and every year I always hope they'll patch in the default starting pitcher stamina slider so we don't get double digit Complete Games and see opposing pitchers with half of a bar of stamina at 100+ pitches. There is no pitcher in the MLB that can handle those workloads, let alone each team having 2-3 starters with 5+ Complete Games.

Please, if there are any developer's eyes on this -- tone it down just a bit! It would make the mode so much more immersive and fun to actually have to manage your bullpen and be able to wear down the other teams pen.

MTO is supposed to you taking a team from the beginning of the season to the end. For that that reason, MTO is never updated. If Aaron Judge was injured on opening day then he will start as being in the minors. It's been that way for years. Take the Phillies, Harper, Hopkins, and Nola were injured on opening day, so they will have to be brought up when you have that option. You'll never see Tatis, Story is in AAA, and Corbin Carroll will be sorely underrated. On the other side, Eduardo Escobar will be a Met, Alek Manoah will be in the bigs, and Trea Turner will be highly rated.

That is and always has been a lame and lazy excuse.

Fact of the matter is, they should at least be updating ratings for the mode once a month. I finished up a Mariners M20 the other night and not having Jarred Kelenic, Bryce Miller, or Jose Caballero be viable options takes so much excitement out of the mode. Every year we see breakout stars emerge and there is no good reason for them to not update it for at least the first 2-3 months.

I mean, I started a Dbacks M2O the other night and Corbin Carroll is 4th in WAR through July and yet he's still just a 76 overall (I even got the three +++ boosts in his player locked game) and isn't going to come anywhere close to his real overall until 2025 (if the depth chart is to be taken seriously).

I guarantee you more people would enjoy the mode if the teams were more accurately resembled throughout the game's life-cycle.

I'm way behind on the grind right now (made up a bit of ground today with progressing the S2 Team Affinities to just about getting one of the 97s for each division) but as of right now:

I totally agree.

I get that they're trying to be "cheeky" and "fun" with these but c'mon, I don't know how they thought this was something that would get over with their core audience.

It's hard to believe since I've always held SDS in high regard when it comes to giving players what they want but did they suddenly become ridiculously out of touch with their core fanbase this much?

I've been a DD player since the beginning, meaning I was there for the two most cringiest things SDS decided to put in the game:

Pepe Alazar and basically, the entirety of The Show 18.

Prior to release of '23, I was bummed to see the card designs were taking another step back with the Charisma series but I could live with those, I guess -- these "Incognito series cards are just downright stupid, in my opinion, and I fear this series that I love is headed in the wrong direction if the Charisma, Kaiju, and Incognito series are any indication of where they're going to take things.

I was totally fine when the card's nickname didn't replace the actual player's name in-game and in the menu but now that they've changed it... It's just so lame. I understand that it might be fun for casual baseball fans but I hope we don't get anything like this ever again.

If they wanted to do something like this, they should've waited for the "Player's Weekend" (I think that's what it's called) and release cards of the players with the nicknames that the players themselves chose and not these out of nowhere corny stuff that someone at SDS came up with.

I'm hoping I'm not in the minority here...

I haven't been paying a ton of attention to this board or Reddit and am wondering what the playerbase thinks of these two high priced cards.

I'm looking for another starter to slot in after being disappointed with the new Bob Gibson.

Mays mussina and musiel are definitely worth it.honus is real good but i didnt use him much.dont think i used TAK Delgado.

Gehrig would be the best 1B if not for MA Thome( i know hes 3B but Brett) love Banks (but JRoll) walker is good( i dont use him cause of stance but has hit great when i have)springer is always good.

I bought the Takashi Honus and barely used him myself. Now, that new Honus is probably the best SS in the game. You still use Brett at 3rd, that’s cool; I really am looking forward to getting Mathews card. Mays is good, but do you think they will leave that as his top card? Gehrig too?

I still use Brett, too. I'd say he's easily my best bat online, at least in the Moonshot event along with Tony Gwynn and Hank Aaron, surprisingly.

You use Brett over Chipper too? Cool deal. I have nothing against Chipper, I just got bored with the card, and having the option to use other card is nice. But, if someone does want to use Chipper, he has a great card to use.

Chipper is such an odd case for me. Offline: I'm hittting >.600 BA with him in just under 100 plate appearances. Online: I'm hitting >.220 with him in just under 40 plate appearances. I always get great contact with him and his exit velos are usually insane. I'm hoping my luck changes or he'll be moving to the bench permanently.

I only need a few cards from the following series for the Jimmy Rollins collection. I'm hoping it ends up being worth the fuss as I've really been looking forward to getting it until the new Larkin card came out which has filled my need for a true shortstop (was using Chipper before).

Go with Mussina as one of your Takashi cards. Some people don’t hit well with Mays. At least in past games, he crowded the plate I guess. I don’t know if they will add the 2022 Postseason cards with the others or make them a separate category. They have done it both ways.

I haven’t had too much time to devote to the game, did they put any news out regarding if there will be another big collection or not? If not, do you think they will?

Yep, absolutely still use McCutchen. He's one of my most productive hitters. I love that card so much... I don't know if I'll ever take him out.

Since we have a pretty good variety of high-end cards, I'm curious who everyone is enjoying using.

I've had some mixed results with everyone but Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Cliff Lee, Al Leiter, and Chris Sale. So those are likely to be my top-5 with Grayson Rodriguez and Cole Hamels as my honorable mentions.

I'm looking forward to 99 Greg Maddux, Justin Verlander, Bob Gibson, Jake Arrieta, and Clayton Kershaw.

Online? That's a lot of lefties.

Those are my guys more often than not. Sometimes I'll mix in Grayson and Kerry Wood, too.

I just haven't had much good right-handed starter luck. That's why I'm looking forward to this Finest Kluber and the others I listed. I did like Euly Perez for quite some time, though. I miss him, honestly.

This man speaks the truth. The craziest thing about the card is you had to buy it from the Ticket Store. Back when that was still a thing.
