    Two weeks into S2: thoughts
  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

It's extremely boring. I've kept up with everything up to this point, but now I'm done. I liked the idea of power creep, but it doesn't really work with seasons. I have to use a bunch of cards I don't want to use to earn/collect a bunch of cards I don't want to use until I finally get to the ones I want a few months later. And then I can't use them when I earn them if I want to progress things in the next season because they don't count towards TA. And you basically have to finish TA to earn the collection boss rewards. The entire framework is terrible. Season 1 should not have ended with 99s, and season 2 should not have started with 89s. That's not "creep", that's a full reset that hardly anyone wants to do.

The XP rewards in programs at the end of season 1 finally rewarded you, but then they nerfed them back to the earlier program levels for the start of season 2. Repeating the same bosses in the program path 3 times is just stupid and lazy, especially when P5ing them gets them to the same overall as the next one (and yes I realize the attributes are different). It just feels like a slog to progress in any meaningful way. I really want the HOF Griffey but I can't put myself through this and have fun with it anymore.

I love baseball and have played every iteration of the show. This is pretty much the breaking point. I don't have any faith they're going to improve this, but I guess we'll see next year.

Are you saying you tried to simulate the last blank hex and lost? I'm trying to figure out what to do with the last hex which doesn't have a team.

Yeah I tried to simulate the last move after I beat the Rays and I lost. You can’t play the game. It’s only a simulation.

You need to play the game to be safe. I was on turn 5 when I played it and the Rays had that hex. I think I played them on All-Star, but you absolutely can play that game instead of simulating it.

I played the Rays the last two games and beat them twice. It was the very last move. There wasn’t an option to play a game.

The 2nd time I beat them was the last move. It wasn’t their stronghold. If what you’re saying is true I’ve never seen it. You can play or simulate any occupied hex if it’s not a stronghold.

  • Struggling for motivation to play
  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

I'm struggling this year more than most years. I usually burn out right around Finest time, but I'm really at that point now. I think maybe I'm just jaded about the game. I was excited about no sets/seasons, and the game started out strong but they've quickly gone downhill. Programs have become very boring and monotonous. Common Courtesy was a joke. The new program's moments where you can only throw one pitch were easy but just not fun to do. I want some of the cards but it's just too tedious now. I've moved on to other games and honestly probably won't come back to the Show for at least a year or two. There are too many issues with the game they haven't addressed and they need to revamp programs.

  • The Griffey Program will be similar to the Jackie Program in 20. Hear me out.
  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

I wouldn’t put any stock in the program percentages. I finished the Ortiz program and it still notified me when I got the 15 HRs with Red Sox players after the program was done. It said I was something like 58% done with the program and I already had Ortiz. It’s more likely they don’t know how to code when the stars are not the normal totals. I doubt the Griffey program goes beyond this, though he’ll eventually get a better card.

  • mantle card
  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

I’ve received two random chase packs from the free packs in season 2 affinities and pulled Mantle both times. I guess they’re making up for never getting anything better than a low gold in all my free duo packs. One more time and I can finally finish the live series.

  • Bump This Thread if You're Disgusted with SDS
  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

I wasn't going to get the game this year, but they suckered me in because I'm a Mariners fan and I wanted to be able to play in the Kingdome.

I'm not bothered by the CPU pitching on veteran because it's making me a more patient hitter. I was doing better in BR because of it. I also think the TA format is much better, and I feel like I'm actually using cards instead of just griding out their PXP.

That said, there are way more negatives, as everyone has mentioned. The two-way glitch being present is inexcusable after they fixed it last year. It makes playing online no fun.

The final straw for me is locking cards behind billboards. Every other company who uses codes plasters them all over their social media and in the game, but not SDS. I can decide if I want to grind for or buy every card in the game, except for those 3. That's ridiculous to me. Whoever thought of that needs to be fired. There's no rhyme or reason to it, and SDS has been silent on it except for asking people if they scanned the QR code. I know it's not a huge deal right now, but it's a horrible practice to start and it makes me wonder what else they'll do like this later in the year.

I've played the Show every year it has been out. Maybe I'll play some franchise this year, but I'm finally out on DD. Their unresponsiveness, laziness, and ethics have soured me on the game. This is how you alienate long time players and drive them away. Well done, SDS.

  • Update broke the game!
  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

And they're out there tweeting about opening day without even addressing how the game is broken. Total clown show.

  • So I Just read the Developers comments about todays and tomorrows updates.....
  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

Making the game unplayable is certainly one way to limit how fast you can earn XP.

  • The Goods and the Bads …
  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

    The good:

    • TA format. It's a grind, but it should be. I have 6 or 7 of the Jolt cards. Last year I would have had all of them by now. Focusing on the pitching missions really helps progress the early stages. My only gripe is that the "quick" hitting missions are too much. 50 hits is a lot for the first tier.
    • Program format. The pipeline program was fun. I also enjoyed the player evolution programs. You could skip a moment or mission and still be able to complete everything. That's a W.
    • I haven't been bored with the amount of content yet. There are a lot of conquest maps and the 2 Mini Seasons. I haven't dabbled a lot in online yet, but I also haven't had to play a vs. CPU game to try to accomplish anything yet. Huge W for me.
    • The power creep feels good. I like not having all of the 99s day 1. Hitting can be a little frustrating since we're all used to playing with higher rated cards, but I've adjusted back to it pretty well.
    • I have no idea what everyone is talking about in regards to the commentary. The first thing I did this year was turn off all commentary and music options. I hated the announcers before and since they didn't change them this was an easy call.

    The bad:

    • CPU fielding is absolutely cracked. Every players makes insane dives and catches.
    • The pitcher wall seems to be worse than last year. I can't tell you how many hits I've lost because the pitcher gets hit in the knee and the ball bounces perfectly to an infielder.
    • Foul balls, again. At least vs. the CPU there's always a batter every inning or two that fouls off 8 pitches. It's really annoying in Conquest since your pitcher is immediately drained after that. It seems like that got better midway through last year's game, but it seems to have reverted back.
    • DQ. There's basically no point in me doing this. I can win on Hall of Fame but the percentages for getting the top cards are still too low on that level for me to worry with it. If I want the cards I'll just buy them on the market and play other modes that are better and more rewarding.

When does best buy usually drop stock on Fridays?

Usually around 3pm eastern. I got mine from them 3 weeks ago after getting Twitter notifications from wario64. The following week they dropped some on Friday at the same time. I’m not sure about last week.

I made it all the way to the end, beat Gagne with 21 outs to go…got the Connection to the Show has been lost message as soon as the game ended. Didn’t even get the voucher. Such BS. I’m done with this game now.

  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

They did just give Gunnar Henderson a TN card and he has a 99 FS card. Most people won’t be using Elly’s FS card in a few weeks so I wouldn’t rule it out.

@brainfreeze442_PSN said in Season Drop 9 program:

    @aldridg6in_PSN
I think I may have to try that extreme moment. My only worry is getting to inning 9, with 2 outs, and give up a blooper on a two strike count. I guess I will find out.

That was definitely my concern. I feel like I’m pretty average at the game. I had a no hitter going with Maddux the other day on veteran while grinding vs CPU and lost it in the 9th.

As someone else said, throw high and inside fastballs, the changeup low and away to righties, and the slider/curve low and away to lefties and occasionally inside to righties. They swing at almost everything. As long as you don’t put anything right down the middle you’ll be ok.

  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

I was very much opposed to buying the game this year but I think the changes they've made have roped me back in. I love that TA is going back to being team based. It was ridiculous to me that you could grind out a weekend and have 30 99s plus the other 99s in the TA collections. Now if you want that 86 Frank Thomas you need to actually use White Sox players to obtain him. It's a real "team" affinity. I think it will lead to more lineup diversity with some of the other changes they've made (real power creep). Getting those players should actually require some effort. I think there are going to be enough other ways to earn decent cards that you'll be able to field a decent team either way. The last few years just felt like a grind to get things done. Now I can focus on actually working towards something I want, and that seems like a big win to me.

I’m curious if everyone having these problems only have tv’s or monitors that are runnning the game at 60 fps, because i haven’t noticed any of these issues batting with Manny or pitching to him.

No. My TV is on game mode running 120 fps and I have the issue.

  • How the heck did people get griffey already!?
  • aldridg6in_PSNA aldridg6in_PSN

I'd be curous to know what programs they had or had not completed up to this point. At the start of Inning 2 I had completed all programs that were available except for the multiplayer program. I was just past Pendleton because I really don't like playing online. That said, I was really close on some MP program missions so I played a few event games today. I think I played 4 and ended up with around 100k XP just from completing missions there. I did the new conquest and completed the Sutter and Clark programs and I'm at 187K xp in inning 2 just from a few hours of playing today. Probably not a stretch for someone to be at a boss already if they had more programs with decent XP to finish up. Unless I play Weekend Classic I'm probably done until some new content releases so I'm probably not hitting the bosses soon even though I have a great head start.

I had only played 3 games in ranked and was 2-1, so I'm in bronze 1. I'm not a fan of online play this year at all but I figured I would give it a go. Went 5-1 through the first 6 games.

Game 1 - won 4-2. Much sweatier than it should have been. Opponent struck out 16 times. Santander bailed me out with 2 HR.
Game 2 - won 7-0. I had 18 hits so the score feels like it should have been worse, but I couldn't get runners home consistently enough.
Game 3 - lost 7-0. I quit in the 3rd inning on this one. Was definitely outmatched by someone who really shouldn't be this low. I did let his 2nd 3 run HR land before quitting out.
Game 4 - Won another 4-2. Pretty even matchup so no real issues with this game.
Game 5 - Won 3-0 even though technically would have been 7-0 in the 3rd. Opponent dashboarded while a Santander grand slam was in flight.
Game 6 - Won 8-6. Grisham was a monster with 3 2 run HR for me.

Online has lots of issues but overall this wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. There will always be moments where you feel like you got robbed or your opponent was gifted something, but it is what it is at this point and really isn't worth caring about.

@Ledfoot_19_PSN For as much as I dislike many aspects of this year's game I did really enjoy this mini season. That silver Trout, the silver Soto, and gold Jimenez were all beasts. I wouldn't have used them much otherwise, but they were fun to play with for a while.
