Yes, he is a pure contact hitter with no sign of power and has really good to great speed. He will be similar to a Tony Gwynn at best or a better average, less k's, and also a less speedy version of Billy Hamilton.
No, I meant he sucks. Other contact/speed options still generate good exit velos on lines drives and ground balls and such. My experience with Madrigal is that he can't hit it harder than it was thrown to him.
At least that’s realistic lmao.

They just did prospects and those were stupid juiced, now we’re gettitng more prospects w even more juiced stats??? Seriously what’s the point of ls cards anymore except collections, this guy is equal to trout ? Better than every other live series player..... I mean come on it’s just stupid at this point

The fact that he is a 95 is insanity

holy mother of....its even worse than i thought
MLB the show, now with double the juice half the fielding!

What if they gave this card good power, to you know, drive the interest and stock of the card up?

Only 4 homeruns in his entire minor league career is pretty terrible. Not to mention he only had a 114 wRC+ in Triple-A.
The dude isn’t going to be anything special at the major league level.
He can barely get a .100 ISO, so he doesn’t just not hit homeruns, he doesn’t get any exit velocity at all.
I don’t get this take at all. He gets on base. He has an elite glove. He’s faster than balls. Guys like madrigal are important because they set the table so a guy like Eloy doesn’t end the year with 40 HRs and 40 RBI.
By this measure, i guess you think Ozzie Smith “wasn’t anything special” at the major league level?

Ozzie Smith only had a 95 SS card , giving any prospect a 95 is just silly. The last batch were too juiced this is just laughable. So all these cards will be better than every live series player and all the current fof players, get out of here w this [censored]

No, I agree 100% that a 95 OVR madrigal is silly. His 85 or 86 or whatever his prospect card is seems spot on for his toolset. I’m just questioning the logic of saying he “sucks” and won’t be “anything special” just because he’s not a power hitter. You can’t have 26 Mike Trouts on your roster. You need guys like Madrigal who have great speed, contact, and defense.

I’m talking strictly offensive production. If his defense is good enough to give him 4 fWAR a season, than so be it.
But only hitting 1 homerun in 134 PA at triple-A with a juiced ball isn’t very promising for what he’ll be capable of at the MLB level. And it’s not even just the lack of homeruns, it’s the lack of power as a whole. His ISO is abysmal, and that just isn’t going to translate well into the majors in today’s game.

The only way this argument holds is if Madrigal plays defense like the greatest defensive shortstop ever (at the least until Simmons is done).
While I agree that contact and speed guys are important, don't make a comparison that doesn't hold to prove your point.

His offensive production is based around contact and getting on base (he has an extremely good eye and will walk a lot). I would rather he play to his strengths and skills than try to be a power hitter unsuccessfully. Didn’t ichiro always say he could hit 40 HR / year but then he’d hit like .220? Id much rather have guys like Tony Gwynn and rod Carew and Wade Boggs who could slap the ball around the field and not strike our 150 times because they were constantly trying to go deep.

My point is not that he deserves a 95 — the whole idea of super juiced prospects is silly. I just don’t get how someone could at he is “pretty terrible” just because power is not one of his strengths. Also, he’s a 2B not a SS.

He had an average walk rate of 8.4% in 2019. Not bad, certainly nothing special though.
I see him being around the same level as Kolten Wong or David Fletcher. His defense and contact might be enough to get him 3 fWAR, maybe 4 on a good year.
Triple-A homeruns were up by 60% last year, yet he hit 1. Even if you aren’t trying to hit homeruns, a good hitter would still hit more than that. But he has zero power and zero exit velocity, something that is almost essential in today’s game.
Like I said, he’ll probably be a decent 3-4 win player.

If he’s a 3-4 win player, I think that’s far from “pretty terrible” or “nothing special.” Which was my point all along. Again — I think 95 is completely ridiculous for Madrigal. If SDS wanted to super-juice a White Sox prospect who could potentially grown into an actual 90+ OVR superstar, I think Luis Robert would have been a much more logical choice (or Kopech for that matter).

Nothing like giving a a player who has only played 29 games at AAA and none in the majors a card rating equal to the best player in Baseball and the best live series player in the game.
Silly made up fantasy cards.
