Looks like another ban wave went through, based on what I’m seeing on Twitter.

I’m seeing reports of bans for various reasons, including exploits, unauthorized hardware/software, and stub transferring.

Naturally, people are up in arms, but it looks like SDS may be cracking down on those who exploited the WBC glitch, cheated, or otherwise violated the TOS.

Plenty of people on Twitter are claiming innocence, and I’ve encouraged them to submit support tickets if they genuinely believe they were banned incorrectly.

I’m all for SDS taking action against people who are breaking the rules, though I do hope innocent people aren’t getting caught in the crosshairs.

I was going to look up that tourney winners game history to see if he did the WBC exploit, but it looks like that part of their website is down. The Game_History API seems to not be functioning either so I can't check.

I will say though that while I would be happy if they were finally banning folks for WBC it just seems like too little too late. The games life cycle this year is on its last legs anyway.

I seriously doubt it’s related to the WBC exploit from earlier in the year. There was a Reddit post (I think) over the weekend pointing out that the leaderboards have basically become a list of obvious cheaters, with stats like 140 HRs in 150 at-bats and .750 batting averages. Meanwhile, stub transferring has been happening around the clock.
My guess is the app being practically unusable all weekend drove more people than usual to the forums, where they were greeted by two things: zero acknowledgement of the marketplace/app problems and leaderboards full of blatantly obvious cheating. Not exactly a great look for SDS. Not a new look but since it’s being pointed out again, a ban wave is hardly surprising.

Has anyone, ever, put their hands up when banned?

Nah. Who does? That's for nerds.

Some people owned up to it but in the same breath they tried to justify it by somehow blaming SDS for their choices

No, I agree. And forgive my ignorance, but I honestly don’t know who any of these top players are. The one I’m seeing people defend because he’s highly respected and has played in person at SDS apparently received a ban for exploits, which is different from the bans others received for cheating.

All I know is that I was accidentally Companion App restricted earlier this year. I submitted a ticket, SDS manually reviewed my account, and they overturned the ban because I hadn’t done anything wrong.

So while I suspect 95% of those banned probably deserved it, I also know firsthand that mistakes can happen. I’m not going to automatically assume everyone claiming innocence is telling the truth, but I’m also not going to assume every ban is justified.

If someone genuinely did nothing wrong, submitting a ticket and requesting a manual account review is the best way to address it.

    Absolutely.
Sadly, their chances of having it sorted are lessened by those who thoroughly deserve the bans but still feel like wasting peoples time by appealing (and lying).

Ah yes, thanks for the reminder, mate.

I remember a few of those 'i did the wrong thing but it's magically okay because the game is bad' here.

Exactly what I was saying. Just because someone is a “respected player” and maybe wasn’t outright cheating doesn’t mean they weren’t doing something against TOS. This looks an awful lot like exploiting, boosting, or something else shady going on. 64 runs and 19 errors? Come on.

trod had a video showing someone with a box score that had 115 runs in two innings. What exactly is the point of making it that obvious.

Every single person that says they were falsely banned is a scammer. They are good at what they do. They can be very believable.

Goes hand in hand with the personality flaw that caused them to cheat at a video game.

I mean, I wouldn't say every single person. There were a ton of App "bans" earlier this year that were a total mistake. They made it right though and rolled them all back.
