Legends
-
This clearly illustrates a few things. One, the emphasis on younger players at the expense of legends. Two, the copy and paste nature that this game has morphed in to. Three, completely disregarding real life stats when fabricating cards for DD.
I could list many more but you get the idea. An uninformed player of this game would think Willi Castro was actually better than Willie Mays. Bottom line is just wish legends were prioritized a bit more than juicing up mediocre players cards over and over again.

My theory about this is simple. The lack of legends is an attempt to save money. If they can get the player base to accept less and less legends, then they don't have to pay for their likeness and it saves their bottom dollar. I think it is pretty obvious this year too.
There has been way more focus on active players and when they do release legends, they are part of a massive dump to get them out there (Moonshot).
This is coupled with the fact that many great legends are not in the game this year including
Fergie Jenkins
Ernie Banks
Mike Schmidt
Eric Davis
Frank ThomasIf you slowly pull back, then people might not notice.. and it saves money.
And if you replace Frank Thomas with Ben Zobrist.. it saves moneyJust a theory though

I think you are spot on. It’s all about money at this point. Despite a very subpar release it’s made a crazy amount of money. They don’t need to even try to satisfy players anymore. The whales and streamers and gamblers aren’t going anywhere. It’s only gonna become less effort and more predatory moving forward.

I think its a much simpler explanation. They have the data on which cards get used and which don't. They are giving their users more of the cards they use and less of the ones they don't.

Ben Zobrist is a freebie anyway since its attached to MLBX, just like how Didi and Rubin Tejada were freebies with WBC. I assume they don't have rights to use them outside of that context.

I think this is right, and is also why they don't care about captains and theme teams. People just want Willi Castro.
NBA 2K has a TON of old time players no one uses, but the game celebrates NBA history. They have their eras mode. In their DD mode you often play CPU teams of a specific year or era as well. It gives a LOT of life to the game. I would love to see more legends just for this purpose. But 2K has a LOT more money to invest into the game.

But 2K has a LOT more money to invest into the game.
Why is that? Last time I checked Sony was a pretty big company.
-
They could do a 99 WS Glavine for sure from ‘95. They should’ve done a 99 Beltran from ‘04. 99 Big Unit from ‘01. Idk…..it’s been too many years for me. Can’t remember [censored] like I used to.

2K monetizes substantially more aggressively than SDS does.
And SDS does not have an open checkbook from Sony.

@Teak2112_MLBTS If you want some type of eras mode, OOTP is the best deal.

Yes. It is a sim. You are the coach or gm (or both) but don't control the actual action.
The plus side is that it has the whole history of mlb. If you want to start a career in 1970 you can choose a team and have their actual 1970 roster.
If you want to set up a series between the 27 Yankees and the 2026 Yankees then you can.
Most mlb players can't get past the simple graphics or want to play a sim where they are not actually hitting or pitching

Whatever happened to Evan Longoria?
I've always done well with his cards in DD! -
He was in the game until he officially retired.
