Your Retro Lightening Player For August is ...

Always love his cards.
Hopefully it's good, because the game really is in a bit of a lull right now (hopefully not for the next 6 months). -
-
They won’t give up on releasing Kris Bryant cards even if he never plays.
-
Couldn’t think of a more fitting terrible player to represent MLB The Show 26 lmao. Flashes of great success and promise but ultimately a huge joke, disappointment and failure

-
Whoever does the content is seriously terrible.
-
Kind of funny to release him so soon after Ron Santo.

I may be in the minority but im tired of this game and their drops. Why are the biggest names to ever play the sport being passed up over and over for barely all star players or worse. How many willie mcgees before we get a usable willie mays? Why is it september and we only have a ss henry aaron? griffey? nope. babe ruth? 500k for a card that will never be used. Tease mcgwire, dont follow through.
Switch hitting meta? no usable mickey mantle. Got a decent chipper but hes all but power crept out of usability too.
Judge ohtani? two most popular players in the league? high overalls, trash cards. But lets make sure we get a Kris Bryant, eddie murray, terry pendleton, ron santo, brian dozier, tony fernandez, dave parker, rick ferrell, phil rizzuto, ryan braun, shawn green. theyre all great players, but no where close to a willie mays or aaron. i want to build a team of legends, not a team of almost no names with great attributes.

100 percent agree
These developers are insane.

You are all short sighted in my opinion. They should mix in the legends more. More legends need mid-tier cards.
But if they drop 99 May, Ruth, Griffey, Mantle and Gehrig now then come November when they have exhausted those cards by giving them all 99s everyone would be crying that "<Insert name> is not replacing Mays in CF". "Why would I use <insert name> when I have Mantle."
Everybody wants those 99s now without any thought as to what the content would then be in November.
-
I liked Judge's Spotlight card better than his All Star game card. Same for Ohtani his Topps Now card was insane but his All Star game card...meh...
I personally would like to get those big name cards in November and December. It will help keep me engaged more.
-
With all due respect who cares about November. I’m a year round player and so are you. However I’d guess 95% of the player base is gone as soon as baseball ends in early November. We still don’t have elite cards of nearly all the old school legends including Griffey. It’s past time those start getting sprinkled in.
-
No one will care if Griffey comes out in December. Waiting 9 months into the game cycle to release him would be absolutely insane.

I don't since I am usually done by then. But I am just one person. I would guess their goal is to keep a portion of their player base playing as long as possible. Most gaming companies strive for that.
To me it makes sense to release legends in a tiered type of release if you released a 99 Griffey Jr or Willie Mays then who will pay attention to Willie McGee if he is released after them?
Look, I am the guy who keeps track and posts a list of all the legends without 99 OVR cards. I wish they released more versions of these legends, start the year with an overall in the upper 80s and then give them 2 or 3 cards in the 90s. Some they do and some they don't.
But we have gotten Musial recently so I can see the big names dropping as collection rewards or new inning bosses and of course there are at least 16 more chase cards and Headliners still to come.
-
I agree that guys like McGee should be released before Griffey but we are also taking about September at this point. A good chunk of players have already moved on and those of us that are left many more will leave as soon as the regular season is finished and then again after the playoffs conclude. Bottom line is there are a ton of top tier old legends that still need to be released and they are running out of time.

Sports tend to push out 99s too soon. How do you expect a game to last if you speed up the end game process? It gets to a point where every card is a 99 and it comes down to who has the best swing or who fits the meta.
