If the game wasn’t so HR or bust they wouldn’t be so prevalent. The fact doubles and triples are nearly nonexistent because the runners are too slow out of the box, the fields play too small, and the outfielders cover way too much ground with cannons for arms and this is what you get. If things were properly balanced and the stat missions didn’t rely so heavily on HRs people would be much more open to playing in bigger ballparks and creating historical ballparks instead of launching pads.

You've said a mouthful.
The parks I make are generally 365/370 down the line and 425 dead center. I keep the elevation geographically accurate or under 1000.
There's too many HRs and, yeah, outfielders (even bad ones) are too good.
I like doubles and triples. I like plays at the plate. I like runners trying to stretch singles into doubles.
Cue shots down the line leaving the park at Fenway or Yankee Stadium make me cringe.

I’m not supporting the small parks. Just saying the reason there are so many is the same reason everybody plays at Coors. The gameplay is geared towards HRs at the expense of everything else.

It's not just park construction, it's baseball in general. Contact has been sacrificed at the altar of power. 200 Ks a year and a .220 average are fine if you can pump out 40+ homers.
I give you Luis Arraez. The guy just hits. He couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag, but he just puts the bat on the ball. He is also one of the least desirable players in the big leagues.
I'm an old Blue Jays fan and I remember the tragedy that was John Olerud. Never have I seen a sweeter swing outside of Ted Williams. They were always demanding more power from him and constantly trying to toy with his swing. The guy could have easily hit 3000 and gone to the HOF. Instead, they eventually traded him for a junk pitcher and he went on to have an okay career with the Mets/Mariners.

@StinkyMcPooter_XBL I agree with some of this but if Luís Arráez still had doubles and triples in him - or had shown a history of being able to field a position - he wouldn’t be ‘the least desirable player in the bigs’ or whatever. if you can’t hit anything over an outfielder’s head or get anything to the wall idc how little you strike out cause the contact just isn’t worth much. (he’s never been a bag stealer either.)

You touched on the BIG issue with Arraez, he has absolutely ZERO defense ability and no one is putting a contact hitter at DH for 150+ games. He doesn’t even have speed to stretch out singles to doubles. He’s an oddity in today’s league, he gets on base a ton, but not enough slugging.

How about Ernie Clement? He might be a better example.
He's another 'swing at everything cause I can hit anything' guy with few walks. But, he has some doubles in his bat and plays amazing defense.

@StinkyMcPooter_XBL I mean he’s a penciled-in starter for a contender and is maybe the primary reason that team felt comfortable telling Bo Bichette to kick rocks. I’d say he’s pretty desirable to people in the know.

And you're absolutely right. Bichette's lack of defense was pretty much the reason he was given the shoe.
I wouldn't say Clement is not desirable now, but it took him many a moon to find his footing with the Jays. They were willing to accept his crazy swing-mode and it paid off.
