The New Strike Zone Is A Disaster That Needs To Be Immediately Fixed!
-
@Sarge1387_PSN I actually tried, but It's very hard to take a screenshot when playing someone online because when you freeze the game, you can't get the pitching location graphic up -- unless there's a way I'm unaware of. But, yes, I played the game online last night, and when I did call up the pitch graphic screen to validate what I just saw with a pitch, there were clear balls that were called strikes. It was ridiculous. And not just against me, but for my pitcher, too. And I don't know what game you've been playing, but I consistently (prior to the update) had been getting calls on the black that were called strikes. In fact, some online opponents were frustratingly good at being able to dot them.

This new strike zone is a huge miscalculation. In playing games in Ranked online and Mini-Seasons offline, balls that didn't even touch the strike zone were being called strikes repeatedly. Whatever adjustments you made need to be re-adjusted ASAP. This isn't a "new" strike zone -- it's a blind umpire not making even close-to-correct calls. I didn't even realize a change had been announced, but was getting frustrated immediately at the number of completely incorrect calls. Again, to repeat, this is NOT complaining that balls that "touch" the strike zone will be called strikes (which I thought was usually the case anyway). It is being extremely frustrated that balls that DO NOT TOUCH the strike zone are consistently being called strikes. Please fix -- or better yet, perfect next time before foisting something like this on us.
Fixed a big problem with pitches being a coin flip on a strike or ball. Way to many people were getting walked on not only 50/50 pitches but sometimes 100% strikes. The "zone" didn't change, just the visual. Most 600 above players aren't really having a problem because they normal defended or can hit those touching the black pitches.

@Rhyno1986_XBL it has changed lol. This game should always lean to the hitter. Some of these pitches barely touching the zone they will not give hits. If they are gonna make it like this they need to fix hits that are just late or just early or just late right outside the box. There are some pitches that just won’t let you get a hit and it’s an automatic out.
-
@ApolloZ_99_MLBTS If you can’t hit it now, you couldn’t hit it before. The only thing that changed is the box.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN I actually am winning more lol. But you are right I can pitch lights out but I have to basically play small ball now. But now I’m striking out like crazy. It’s just winning game like 2-0 ain’t fun. I’m on the switch yall already have an advantage over me graphics wise
-
@ApolloZ_99_MLBTS Switch is incredibly hard online.
-
@ApolloZ_99_MLBTS not just graphics, you are at a disadvantage in every aspect of the game
-
@GoozeFn_PSN makes me feel better when I beat Xbox PlayStation guys
-
@Ditka06_MLBTS especially with this new zone but in not gonna stop playing.
-
@ApolloZ_99_MLBTS Rightfully so.

@rms1980rms_PSN they just shrunk the strikezone square... the pitches being called strikes are the same as before, zone just looks smaller. Hitting will not be any different.
When I first started playing and I got my first strike that barely touched the zone I was think oh god this is terrible.
But as you play for a little while, I agree, I don't think there is much of a difference.
I noticed I was swinging more at low pitches cause I was afraid they were going to touch the zone.
I've also noticed the pci can travel a good bit out of the new zone so when people are trying to hit the black you're still gonna probably be more likely to get a barrel on it then before. It'll prob make sense as a pitcher to aim further off the plate than normal to compensate for the smaller zone even tho it's the same
-
Yes. I had a much better day today. I must be getting used to it now. It had me all messed up first. I liked It just couldn't hit as much. Now I can hit ok for me and I can actually strike people out.
-
@Jisaksen2422_MLBTS He is not lying... It does happen... Not too often in the game, but it does happen and it could in a key moment that loses you the game. I have seen strikes being called when the ball was absolutely on the outside of the strike zone with too much space between ball and zone.
-
Hitting is definitely different
It’s just weird to make this drastic of a change in the middle of a game cycle
We not implement this at launch?
And to top it off custom practice BP still functions with old strike zone so there’s no way to get accustom to this except in game
This was a very odd decision by sds
But this whole game cycle has been odd and bad… so i guess its not surprising

You people are not playing the same game I am. This game has ALWAYS rewarded painting the black. But now it is calling strikes that are not remotely touching the strike zone. If I can see air between where the ball is marked and the strike zone line, that is not a strike, I don’t care how they’re “interpreting” things. It’s not working as intended. Period.
I haven't noticed anything wrong with it. If it barely touches the strikezone, it's a strike, as it should be. If you are having hard time with it just lay of them and learn to protect in 2 strike counts except with a man on first take the strikeout percentages are higher it will be weak contact and ground into a double play. Trust me you will get a fair share of decent pitches to hit, just need to be patient, which this game highly rewards.
-
New strike zone penalizes patience on higher difficulties. It was hard enough to take a 102 fastball in, now you're just begging to K looking if you show any restraint. Contact results were already pretty unfriendly at times and this just incentivizes you to swing at bad pitches. Doesn't hurt the cheaters though, they don't mind at all.
-
The thing i don't like about it is that you can no longer work the pitch count. You almost HAVE to swing at anything close to the zone.
I used to be able to work the count, online and offline, to about 15-20 pitches per inning.
Now I'm lucky to get 10-12 per inning.
Plus, now you can almost throw everything in the dirt and you'll get bailed out more often than not.

@Rhyno1986_XBL it has changed lol. This game should always lean to the hitter. Some of these pitches barely touching the zone they will not give hits. No it has not. All that changed was the visual representation of the zone. Also you can still get hits on these pitches and even perfects on actual balls. Maybe you just need a little more practice at the plate.
-
@Rhyno1986_XBL its more complicated than "just visual". There's no variance in strike zone now - it used to be that the same pitch could be a ball or strike (50-50 chamce they claimed). Now its always a strike if it clips zone.
I dont mind the new zone - but the change is more complicated than "the visual box is just smaller now"
-
While i still think it’s bad, i completed the event today and it’s not as horrible as I thought.
I still think it’s a v weird change to make in the middle of a game cycle- seeing we've become so used to the other strike zone for years
This type of gameplay change should be something that is implemented at launch imo
