Classic SDS move here. They drop a McGwire when there’s already a free McGwire that’s not much worse than the one they dropped today. You know they do that [censored] on purpose!

Did you expect a 99 less than a month after release?

For those wondering here are the differences

Why is it not a Cardinal McGwire?

Don't know but I am fine with that as it means that the eventual 99 will most likely be a Cardinal since we only got an 88 cardinals version last year while the A's got the 99.

He got a 99 for both teams in 2023
A 99 Finest for St Louis in 2024
    A 99 Awards for the A's in 2025

He's had 10 cards prior to this year, 5 for each team.

@Dolenz_PSN I didn’t EXPECT a 99 of anything, I was simply HOPING for something not so similar to stuff we already have. They did the same thing in drop 1 with the Hoffman card. How silly of me. I’ve been watching this for 12 years now, hope is a very silly word when referencing SDS.

Then what would you have changed and still keep him within the current power curve. Or would you have had them skip him for someone else.

Sure they could have kept the defense lower and gave him more of an offensive bump but then when they give him a 95 (possible) and a 99 there would be very little room to improve his hitting stats.

If you just look at their meta stats (the ones in the circles) he went:

    Contact 65 to 74
    Power from 91 to 102
    Fielding from 55 to 65

@Dolenz_PSN would’ve chosen someone else. How bout a nice Braves Fred McGriff. Cards Larry Walker. Maybe a Yankees Tony Fernandez. Just sayin……so many other ways it could’ve went.

@platewelder_363_PSN but don't those cards all already have high 80 cards? I believe they all have an 88

    I can't argue with that.

But would a 90 OVR Larry Walker been much different that the 88 Rockies version
Would a 90 OVR McGriff been much different than his 88 TB version?
Would a 90 Tony Fernandez be much different than his 88 Blue Jays version

If it is because you are suggesting cards for different teams then would the McGwire card have been okay if it had been a Cardinal instead of a 2nd A's version.

I am not trying to be difficult. I am just happy to see a discussion that is not about the market, bots, cheating, etc.

@Dolenz_PSN is a 90 Mac that much different than a P3 83 Mac? In answer to your question, I’d have preferred as unique of a card as possible. However, if you wanna use the players they chose, then maybe a Second Half Hoffman with the Brewers. Or a Cards Big Mac from 2000. He hit 305 with 32 bombs in 2000…..yes he got hurt but that could easily be a 90 overall.
