@TRinehart32_PSN This is a well written post and you make a good argument. I personally only play DD and never touch the other modes, unless I’m bored and, like now, trying them out before the new game launches. I’m no money spent and enjoy the grind of DD and get joy ripping packs like I did as a little kid, albeit virtually. But, if online franchise were a thing, I know I would probably spend a good bit of time in that mode, so yes, the money spent folks I’m sure would too and it would certainly hurt the bottom line for SDS because I doubt they could recoup that loss in game units sold by those that would buy the game for online franchise exclusively. It’s hard to argue with their logic, if that is the reason, because they are in it for profit, but I do feel like SDS does a wonderful job of trying to listen and appease as much of the community as they can, knowing not all will be happy. I think it is worth still voicing our opinion and hope they make small adjustments over time to continue building us the perfect baseball game. Good post!

    Well said!

I really don’t want this to come off as a dig or a way of saying SDS isn’t listening. Or that they’re not trying to build off what the fan base wants.

I do however feel like it’s obvious that there’s a strange thing happening right now within this game that’s shows other modes taking off and evolving at a much faster rate than franchise and that side of the fan base’s wishlist.

I guess the logistics of my brain is trying to find some sort of explanation in a loop hole somewhere. Hopefully, crossing our fingers, this years MLB The Show will be the return.

People who play DD and spend money on stubs/packs arent gonna just pack their [censored] and run to online franchise. The reality is that, there are people who play only DD, there are people who play only RTTS and there are people who only play franchise. Online franchise wont do anything but take some of those offline franchise folks and thats about it. The reason they're not adding online is because it seems like an unnecessary addition to something they already have thats "good enough" for the people who play it.

There’s a lot to unpack there.

I think having the notion that online franchise isn’t available because offline franchise is “good enough for the people who play it” is an unpopular opinion. And it’s sort of what I’m talking about. Look at all the franchise players who want online so badly. Franchise actually isn’t good enough where it stands.. and I think that’s where we’re at right now.

I believe you when you say that some players will remain loyal to their modes but you have a lot of players that mix it up.
    My question now is,

Why is it that every year, franchise players feel like they have to play these other modes (or not play the game at all) because franchise is just the same old thing and not evolving with everything else?

I personally dont play franchise at all so i have no opinion on whether or not its actually "good enough" , hence the quotations. My question to franchise players is this...

Will you continue to play franchise offline if thats the only available option? Most likely, the answer will be yes which is where the "good enough" comes in. If you're fed hamburger helper every night and you seem to enjoy it because its food, the chef isnt gonna just offer filet mignon as an alternative.

But if we all pay $70 to get into the same restaurant shouldn’t we all be eating filet mignon no matter what table we sit at?

I think everyone wants to eat that, I like good steak.

    It’s not how SDS works.

What would be cool for online franchise is to implement the ability to bet your stubs on yourself winning a game or series, a player hitting a home-run, or stolen bases. That could integrate potential for extra revenue for SDS like the other modes do.

No thats not how life works. If you pay $70 to get into an establishment and you want something thats not on the menu, you eat what they serve you.

DD is one mode that has 10 different modes caked inside of it. 4 online, 6 offline accessible at launch bare minimum, that’s a high bar. If we both pay the same entry fee, we should both get the same quality game at launch bare minimum all modes across the board. All that comes down to what the franchise players want. SDS is catering to certain modes and leaving franchise behind, that’s all I’m trying to exploit.

Online Franchise used to be in the game.

They didn't take it out because they were lazy or wanted to upset a subset if their fans. I believe they took it out because the group of people who played it, no matter how devoted they were, was not enough to justify the resources to update or maintain it. The last time they told us numbers for each mode online Franchise was always dead last by a significant margin.

I see post about online leagues. I have to wonder how many actually go for any length of time. I see a lot of messages where people are recruiting because others just abandon their teams. I am guessing the same was true of Online Franchise.

I wish it was in the game still for the sake of those who want to play it but it's not going to happen. I've been pretty vocal that the game is aggressively increasing monetization and that they over corrected this year and catered more to the elite players at the expense of those of us who are less talented (waves at DQ). I say this not as someone defending the company but someone who tries to understand what their motivations may be

I don't care for filet so you can have mine, I'll take the sirloin or prime rib

    This.

Online Franchise no longer exists because the player base isn’t big enough to support it.
