Is this the real reason for no online franchise

It’s not how SDS works.
What would be cool for online franchise is to implement the ability to bet your stubs on yourself winning a game or series, a player hitting a home-run, or stolen bases. That could integrate potential for extra revenue for SDS like the other modes do.
No thats not how life works. If you pay $70 to get into an establishment and you want something thats not on the menu, you eat what they serve you.

DD is one mode that has 10 different modes caked inside of it. 4 online, 6 offline accessible at launch bare minimum, that’s a high bar. If we both pay the same entry fee, we should both get the same quality game at launch bare minimum all modes across the board. All that comes down to what the franchise players want. SDS is catering to certain modes and leaving franchise behind, that’s all I’m trying to exploit.

Online Franchise used to be in the game.
They didn't take it out because they were lazy or wanted to upset a subset if their fans. I believe they took it out because the group of people who played it, no matter how devoted they were, was not enough to justify the resources to update or maintain it. The last time they told us numbers for each mode online Franchise was always dead last by a significant margin.
I see post about online leagues. I have to wonder how many actually go for any length of time. I see a lot of messages where people are recruiting because others just abandon their teams. I am guessing the same was true of Online Franchise.
I wish it was in the game still for the sake of those who want to play it but it's not going to happen. I've been pretty vocal that the game is aggressively increasing monetization and that they over corrected this year and catered more to the elite players at the expense of those of us who are less talented (waves at DQ). I say this not as someone defending the company but someone who tries to understand what their motivations may be

But if we all pay $70 to get into the same restaurant shouldn’t we all be eating filet mignon no matter what table we sit at?
I think everyone wants to eat that, I like good steak.
I don't care for filet so you can have mine, I'll take the sirloin or prime rib

This.
Online Franchise no longer exists because the player base isn’t big enough to support it.

Exactly this. Like i said, why offer two options when they know that the franchise players are gonna take the one they get either way?

in real mlb you cant bet on baseball so most likely it wont happen

It’s because custom leagues is not good. It requires a player for all 30 teams. Example being if you only have 6 players in custom league you only have 6 teams. You don’t have 6 User teams, and 24 managed by CPU. So no wonder people are trying to recruit. Also the schedule doesn’t reflect the official schedule posted my the MLB for that calendar year for each team. It’s a flawed creation produced in 2020 in substitute for what used to be a great concept in 2017.
-
I disagree that the player base wouldn’t be big enough.
I agree that it wouldn’t support SDS financially post launch compared to the other modes they evolve and focus on every off season.
-
Because a lot of players are asking for its return. From 2014-2017 franchise players were paying a cheaper dollar to have that feature. Now we’re paying a higher dollar to not have that feature. Doesn’t make much sense to me for what franchise players are getting out of it. Looks like DD has been getting its moneys worth.
-
Probably won’t be too much longer until a plate of Hamburger Helper cost $70 lol. Just sayin. You may all now resume the intelligent discussion.

What would somehow make it magically grow the player base higher than it was when they removed it? Granted it is on more consoles now but percentage wise I doubt it would go up.
I just don't see it. I feel like many players these days would not have the patience for it.
-
I think overall it could increase the player base and sold copies of the game. Based on evidence from all other sports games that have created this kind of mode in recent years leading into the 2020’s, we see an increase in player base and total games played anywhere around 30% for those titles.
Not to mention the amount of people who buy/play it now. I think it’d be a great addition. We’re seeing a lot of players ditching the quick head to head experience and wanting to invest their time into a dynasty, long term driven experience. Like what college football online dynasty is.

Your evidence actually proves the opposite of what you're arguing. People are willing to pay more for a game that doesn't include it.
-
You’re right franchise players are paying more money in 2025 to not have an extra mode that was once in the game at a cheaper price. That’s a scam for us.
That mindset is kind of what I mean. We’re “willing” to pay. This is the only MLB game on the market as of right now. If we choose to play an MLB game this year then we only have one way to go.
So we’re not willing, we’re actually required. Required to settle and pay for whatever it is they craft in the off season at whatever price point they pick.
How do you get people out of franchise and move them to other modes that bring more revenue? You leave franchise in the corner and throw it a cookie every now and then.

Now they're forcing you to buy the game?
-
They can't even return y2y saves which they already have the code for. I wouldn't expect online franchise any time soon.

Do you truly presume that in the world we live in, that there cannot be 30 odd people who come together to agree to play out a custom league featuring 30 teams? I'm not personally desirous of doing that, but I would never presume that such setups fail to exist.
Moreover, why would custom leagues need be set up as to require all 30 teams to play? Isn't the whole concept of "custom" leagues centered on the notion that a group of MLB The Show customers can pick and choose how they set up their own custom league?
In my view, this is another blunder SDS caused for themselves, another unforced error. I also add that it is another example of current SDS leadership craving control over customer happiness. There is no reason on this earth why the game code could not quite easily be configured to allow a private online group to play anywhere from two to 30 teams, with each team configured in whatever manner of uniforms, logos, and stadiums that those in that private league determine.
For people who believe in variety, and embrace the idea that when people are given the freedom to create, then vibrancy, relevancy, and enjoyment are natural byproducts, this isn't a difficult concept to embrace. It is only for people who desire control over creativity that such a concept can be alien and undesired.

If only 30 people are buying your game, your game is a miserable failure.

What's a lot? I've seen dozens ask for it, concede that it could possibly be in the hundreds of those wanting it's return, but the game sells over a million copies each year, hundreds isn't a lot compared to a million.
