This will maybe subtract 4 minutes from a game if the pitcher has a longer windup. Theres really no pitchers with a toxicly long windup. However, there are pitchers with somewhat toxic stretch moves, which I fear could become a problem

@TheRupster12_XBL Seth Lugo is obnoxiously long. Detmers, Paige, Spahn, CC…

@rageincage007_XBL Some people don’t have 2-3 hours to play a real life like 9 inning game. This is a video game. If you want the magic of a 3 hour game, buy a ticket to a game.

Games are usually 30-40 minutes, not close to the length of a real game. Ive faced cc and paige multiple times, and their windups really arent that long. It adds like 3 minutes max and neither is meta anyway

@TheRupster12_XBL Think about it. Pitching from the stretch shaves at least 2 seconds off each pitch. If 200 pitches are thrown between both teams, that’s 6-7 minutes each game. Decreasing the length of games by 20% is significant.

It only saves 2 seconds if the pitcher's windup is incredibly long, and thats assuming all the pitchers used in the game have a long windup. In reality, it saves about a second per pitch, and assuming about 1/3 of the pitches were with runners on anyway, that cuts time savings to about 2 minutes, give or take.

@TheRupster12_XBL I’ll do a little testing tonight. It obviously depends on the delivery but even your average windup is more than 1 second longer.

@therupster12_xbl So I used the stop watch on my phone to time each pitchers windup and stretch. I used the mean of 3 times from each. I chose a few of the guys I know have long deliveries and several of the guys people use often. The following times are the DIFFERENCE between each pitchers windup and stretch.

    Reid Detmers 5.48 seconds
    Seth Lugo 4.41
    CC Sabathia 3.44
    Warren Spahn 3.11
    Clayton Kershaw 2.38
    Roy Halladay 1.82
    Paul Skenes 1.78
    Randy Johnson 1.69
    Bob Gibson 1.66
    Rodger Clemens 1.64
    Al Leiter 1.55
    Pedro Martinez 1.36
    Tarik Skubal 1.3
    John Donaldson .92

The only guy close to meta above 2 seconds who will be in next years game is CC Sabathia. All the meta pitchers are around the 1.5-1 second range, and there are no relievers on this lists, who generally have short windups. Lets assume a game where both people use Randy Johnson and pitch 80 pitches, with 1/3 of pitches from the stretch. That leaves about 120 pitches, which equals about 3 minutes. Lets also assume about 40 reliever pitches with no one on with about a .75 second difference is about another 30 seconds. That is about a 3.5 minute difference for a pitcher with a relatively long windup

    crazy concept...

why not get rid of all the stupid cut scenes

get rid of the 5 min load up at the start of each game we are going on year 10 plus of that where you watch the starter warm up

maybe now after 3 years of foul ball simulator they figure out that 20 pitch at bats with 17 foul balls might take up some time

all 3 of these would speed the game up more then making people pitch in the stretch

I am really thankful they implemented this. I would purposely not use players with a long wind up, it was just a waste of time. The games will feel and be slightly faster which is a positive for ranked play. I guess I just don’t see the negative side to this. Why would I want to wait 2-3 more seconds for every pitch.

Looks like hitting is becoming easier and easier when it was already getting easier for people.

@TheRupster12_XBL Some good points. I didn’t consider that not every pitch will come from the windup. While many relievers pitch quickly, some still pitch from the windup Fingers, Dibble and Mason Miller to name a few off the top of my head. We’re still talking about a ~10% reduction in game time on average. Even if it’s 8%, that’s not insignificant.

@Daddy-Padre_XBL How about all of the above. Let’s have 20 minute 9 inning games.

Why not just go to 2 outs per inning. That would greatly speed up games and is about a baseball accurate as getting rid of the windup. I sometimes think some people on these boards (and at SDS) just cosplay as actual baseball fans.

This is a game mode where .240 hitters get the same contact rating as Ted Williams

Bingo! This will not speed up games drastically at all.. so it’s kinda silly imo

Also like you said.. aren’t some pitchers more difficult to hit from the stretch bc they have glitchy releases(from the stretch)

I know one off the top of my head that has a glitchy stretch release.. Kershaw

Not sure how many other pitchers have the kershaw thing going on

Well, he won't be in the game this year so that is one less to worry about

Pitching from the stretch is going to make toxic players constantly slide step and not slide step as it changes the release point of the pitcher. I HATE when people do that especially when they just randomly break not out in a high leverage spot. If it gets abused it would make online play pretty miserable
