What if ranked wasn't always god squad?
-
I would disagree with saying ranked shouldn't always be GOD Squads. I do agree we should have an online Diamond Dynasty mode that is purely Live Series players. I would prefer this mode to be strictly team based and have subsequent rewards for going 10-0 like events. Now I know this would lead to it basically being people only using the top 1-5 teams all the time. That is why I would add an extra challenge that you get rewards for using each team. Say a 94-99 captain card to use in ranked for winning a 9 inning game in this mode on All-star or above.
-
So you just want 9 inning events.
-
More like a version of a salary cap mode, mixed with some other things to add variety like encouraging theme teams. Less gimmicky than events.
-
I think what should happen next year with events is
- Bring back event rewards
- Make more creative restrictions (theme team, salary cap, specific card series)
-
its weekend classic, i'll use my god squad every time.
playing regular ranked season, unless i'm trying to get that WS win, i'll use different teams. Minus starters...Too many crappy starters that have a 99. Like Yamamoto, his card today should be one of the best.... unfortunately he'll be average to decent at best.

I agree that they need to give you a way to use your binder, and reward depth.
Here's an idea - when you get a potential god squad card, you have to power it up by forming other teams. So, when you get that cool Ketel Marte card, its not at full power until you max out certain theme teams (maybe you have to create a Diamondbacks theme team).
With this system, your god squad wouldn't truly become a god squad until you use your depth cards and make other lineups.
There needs to be a way to reward building other teams - so that all these rewards they give you can actually get USED, not just sold or dumped into binder
-
The inspiration for this thread was the notion that the Finest drop is pointless because the cards are unlikely to make god squads
In fact, you hear it all the time 'none of these cards will make my team'. As a mostly offline player this is less impactful to me in theory, but i think it is a reason we got fewer mid season versions of legends this year and programs have been gutted into 2-3 cards where the theme should allow for 10+. Rivalry weekend, video game numbers, outfield assist, etc.
-
Agreed. So many rewards and cards have been kinda pointless since July....you only have so many positions to fill on your god squad team, and then you're kinda done building (with the exception of adding a mega card every now and then)
This game needs more building - but then again, I'm an RPG gamer so I like building.

Related or maybe unrelated... Please break the modes apart again (Ranked, Events and Battle Royale). I don't enjoyed the "mashed together" online program. Maybe it's just me, but I liked earning all those silver and gold cards in BR.

I think the mashed together program could work, but it needs more mission variety rather than just have a high offense. Playing BR and event should mean something to it, but not be required. Having some kind of expanded mission system with a wheel spin at the end could work, and the diamond reward could eventually be a weekend classic rewind pack

Ranked should always be competitive and pay with your best players and no restrictions. Just remember sets and seasons when we couldn't use who we want
With that being said. I would like a 9 inning more casual mode that may allow restrictions, doesn't count towards your record, etc... Something more for fun

Thats why the last week would always be god squad, for the weekend classic week.
The play with your best players mode is fine for that, but that mode also shouldnt double as the casual mode where all the rewards are at. And it absolutely is the casual mode, because its the only one with any semblance of matchmaking. its not perfect, especially with the lower participation this year, but at least Im not getting matched with WS players every other game like I do for event.
But they sort of made all online play anti-casual this year with the high offense requirements for the program. I feel I am actually penalized for winning a 1-0 game. I get virtually no progress towards the program, and now I will potentially be facing better players. I also feel compelled to use Coors field (or worse).

Share my story with ya. Maybe it’s coincidence, maybe not but I used to only ever play ranked with my God Squad and God Squads is all I was ever matched up against….Well one day I said F this, I want to play with my favorite players, Not who the best are. Ever since I made the switch I tend to get matched up way more often against a similar quality lineup…I’ve seen way more lineup variations since as well.
Bottom line - If you don’t want to play a God Squad, Don’t use a God Squad.

This is how I rolled in 2023 and the first half of 2024 when the ranked track had a lot of innings based missions. The switch to offense based mission really killed my enjoyment of online play.

No need to be all extra. Just have a separate ranked salary cap mode. Use minimum and maximum player ratings that adjust with the power creep.
I dont even care if they keep it so simple to the point that it has the same rewards and uses the same rating across salary cap and regular ranked.
I like to use different theme teams in ranked, I used a cubs and a negro league theme team in my last 2 weekend classic games. Plus I also like trying out different cards, so it would be nice to see some variation in my opponents lineups too.

Kind of yes I suppose. But MORE stringent rules. So you can only use Live series players and only the whole team. But not stuck on 1 difficulty either. So more like a ranked live series. If that makes sense.
