A New 'New Threads' Program?

You nailed it. By eliminating TA this time around and again with Finest, there is a major lack of playable content. Yea the cards are great but I have nothing to do and I don’t play anywhere near as much as a lot of others.
SDS- please recommit to Team Affinity and give us more to do there.
I think they still have some additions ready for TA to come. The gap between the Finest voucher and the #1 Fan icon is like 1,000,000 points and I agree without any grindable content that is just a wasteland that many will simply abandon. You have to think they surely will add a new set of missions/moments/stats with added rewards along the path to entice players to invest back into TA.

They won't. Any new TA content will come in the form as new programs like the Color Storm one.
My biggest complaint about that final stretch between the finest and the #1 fan is the fact that every team has different goal posts. I understand why and what their intention was but it still seems unbalanced.

@PAinPA_PSN Bring back the immortals!

It's just my opinion but it's too early in the real season to have so many 99s. I think the increments went up too fast too soon and 2 bad things happened because of it.
-
Everyone will have a God Squad by the end of August, if they don't already.
-
Most Golds and low end diamonds became useless right out of the gate. It's why the market and stub earning became a chore this year. By the end of April an 85 Diamond was barely worth 5000. It's why there are so many complaints about pack luck this year. It's probably not that odds are down but odds are when you pull one it's barely at quick sell price.
I would love to see us have to grind more with silver and golds to earn those Diamonds and have them slow down progression. At this rate who's gonna give a [censored] about the finest voucher trade ins.....

From this point forward, you get complaints of "If you're giving us a card that's NOT a 99, what's the point?".
The end of the power creep has arrived.

Playing with 99s can get boring because the players are created so similarly. Sub .250 hitters getting maxed or near-maxed CON L CON R and CLU with 90+ vision. e.g. Kyle Schwarber getting near Tony Gwynn-ish CON & CLU attributes. The players start to feel like they're wearing a skin that doesn't fit them at all.
The Joey Bats card is particularly egregious. He hit .302 that season, not .340.
I worry we will devolve even further into something like NBA 2K25 where they will give Gheorghe Muresan, a guy whose claim to fame is being tall and ugly but not a particularly good player, a card with the best jump shot animation in the game.
I'm waiting for the 99 Greg Maddux with the same off speed stuff but an outlier fastball
-
That said, i do enjoy the Topps Now and Draft/Pipeline cards, which are better than those players deserve. At least the latter can be treated as 'what if they end up at full potential'. Topps Now are just goofy fun for players that would usually not see a card otherwise, but always purposefully behind the curve at least.

98 Helsley Showdown
I'll be extremely disappointed if they give another Helsely but dont give a Tyler Rogers, but there is room for both.
The showdown should have been Bednar, so you can beat up the Yankees new additions just like it actually happened

He was awesome yesterday. Came in for a five out save and ended up striking out five. Let's get a 99 for that Yanks pen!!!
-
probably Miller and Duran get the 99s and guys like Bednar and Rogers (and Helsley) get 98s or 97s.
Which matters less for relief pitchers anyway

2018 would have been right up your alley. Only 22 99s in the entire game.
Did they have 125 as maximum for contact/power/vision back then, or was it 99? I didn't play DD back then. I'm wondering if the number of 99's exploded as a result of that.
2018 is when the 125s came into the game. The theory put out by sds at the time was that these immortals are the greatest of all time and therefore need attributes that are above the “normal maximum”
-
Ah yes, the immortal Willi Castro definitely needs that 125 contact
-
@Teak2112_MLBTS I wish they would just give a card to every significant player who was traded including prospects.
-
I assume its not trivial for coding, but maybe for 2026 New Threads (both initial and trade if they do them again) should have logos of both the old and new team, and just for these specific cards they can allow dual theme team eligibility.
That way the Athletics fan gets their 99 Mason Miller too.
