Charged with a loss without giving up a winning or tying run
-
I was playing rats and my starter was charged with a loss. I pitched 8 shutout innings and was relieved at the start of the 9th, the score was 1,0 the reliever started the 9th and gave up the tying run, then my team lost in extra innings. I was charged with the loss afterwards. Can someone explain how or if this is just a glitch. This was in mlb the show25

The only way it happens is if you left the 2 men on base when you were relieved. The pitcher who allowed the baserunners are responsible for them even if the reliever gives up the hits that bring the runs in. Example before you get pulled you’ve allowed a base hit and walked the next batter, even if you’re pulled those baserunners are yours even if you didn’t give up the hit that brought them in

@GreenEydBndt_XBL . Read the post again, he said that he was taken out at the start of the 9th and the reliever gave up the tying run then his team lost in extra innings but it still gave him the lose which it shouldn't of

This is why I never let my manager take me out. Finish what you start and this won't happen again.

I’d like to see a screen of the box score - starter should be ND’d with no runs earned, loss shouldn’t be on him since it was in extras and he was already out of play at that point.

I think there is a situation with a slight difference where the starter could get the loss. If the game is lost in extra innings with the ghost runner scoring the scorer gets to choose who gets the loss because the reliever in extra's technically inherited a runner. I don't study the rule book or anything but I think that is a rule.

That would be on the RP, not the starter since he was fully removed after the 9th (relieved at the start).

This is a real bug - OP is not misinterpreting how a L is attributed to a pitcher in my opinion. Just happened to me. 7 shutout innings and a 0-0 game. I don't come out for the 8th and I got the L. Submitted a bug report. I'd share the box score here but the app doesn't seem to allow me to attach a picture.
