If they thought it would sell copies then they might but I honestly doubt the would reuse a player again only a few years after they were previously featured the cover.

It should definitely be Bobby Witt Jr. The best player on his team, a team that made a historic recovery from the season before. Not to mention finishing in 2nd for AL MVP and sweeping the awards for a shortstop and a 3rd consecutive 30-30 season. Maybe I'm a bit bias since I am a Royals fan but all of those accolades in just 3 seasons is deserving imo

The problem is that is less about who is deserving and more about who is marketable and will be recognized by the majority of potential purchasers. I'd argue that as good as he is many would not recognize Witt Jr if he were on the cover.

If it was about players deserving it then they should just give it to a MVP or CY Young winner every year. But we did not get an Acuna Jr, Goldschmidt, Abreu, Freeman, Bellinger or Trout when they won their awards in the last 5 years. Other than Shohei I don't believe they have ever gone with a pitcher.

Also, in the last 10 years (since MLB 15) a player from a central division team has been on the cover once.

Personally, I don't care who they choose, since I know it won't be a Cardinal, as long as they don't make the cover art too obnoxious (I'm looking at you MLB 23)

Um, because he was just on the cover in 22.

Other than a weird time when they put Joe Mauer on the cover 2 years in a row they have not repeated a player. If they were going to do that then it would probably be Judge or Ohtani but I would not hold my breath.
