Hey guys, so I don’t know if anyone here played a lot of Mario Superstar Baseball for GC but it was and still might be my favorite game ever. I’ve played countless hours and would consider myself pretty well versed with the intricacies of the game. I decided to write a little feature to pay homage to this game. This edition will feature all power/speed players and their MLB the show comparison. If people actually think this is cool and there’s an audience that played this game I’ll do the technique/speed players in another post. Let’s get started...

    Power Players

Bowser- Babe Ruth... The goat whatever you want to say Bowser [censored] smashed... not the greatest pitcher didn’t have the most movement but best hitter in the game and it really isn’t close. That big [censored] bat was savage couldn’t pitch inside to him for the most part.

DK- Lord Gallo... oh boy DK the original small pci power guy. So many dingers with that glove... A great all around player once you got that swing down... and let’s not forget about that cannon to the plate.

Wario- Mark trumbo... this was a tough one. Wario definitely has some pop but wasn’t top tier by any stretch of the imagination. Feels like a good fit.

Baby Bowser: Ryan Ludwig... Baby Bowser was kind of garbage if we are being honest. Throws left bats right has some pop but still has a lot of growing up to do to be like his daddy.

Petey Piranha: Eddie Matthews... I was a big fan of Big Pete. Pretty much a dead pull hitter, Kinda similar to DK in terms of batting style with similar pop and definitely had a hose from third base...

Hammer bro: Jimmy Fox... Hammer bro was a [censored] dog. Was my second favorite power player. Could smash the ball if you squared it up but could also go the other way when you didn’t quite line her up. For some reason his stance reminded me a little of Old School Jimmy.

King Boo: Nelson Cruz... Always hated pitching to KB and talk about a tough out... the only saving grace was he had some much [censored] curve on all of his hits... so many foul homers. Total liability on defense unless you stuck him at third base and just waited to use his super jump ability. Good luck in the outfield

Blue Pianta: Rod Barajas... useless player... once in a blue moon you’d square one up and everyone would be surprised he hit a no doubter. Hands down worst power player...

    Speed Players

Yoshi: Ty Cobb... arguably my favorite player in the game. Fastest player, unbelievable range in the outfield when he used his catch ability and could mash...

Diddy Kong: Chone Figgins... decent bat could poke the ball around, good speed, and good range anywhere. Not the beat arm but serviceable as he was a CAP.

Baby Luigi/Baby Mario: Dee Gordon... dink and dunk hitters with great speed... both were kind of defensive liabilities and it was one in a blue moon when you hit dingers with them.

Toadette: Orlando Arcia. Not much to say about toadette.. pretty much a scrub anywhere you put her and a liability at the dish. One of my least favorite players for sure...

Flying Goomba: Jordan Luplow... another guy you didn’t really care to see on your squad. Below average bat, pretty shitty fielder but hey he could rob the occasional dinger with that super jump

Blue Noki: Kolten Wong... Blue noki was a decent ball player. Decent glove, decent arm, decent bat... just really decent. Have no idea where he/she/it came from in terms of Mario lore but oh well.

Monty Mole: Mallex Smith... decent hitter really loves to put the ball on the ground between 1st and second. Pretty good speed, below average arm, average defense but had that cheesy super speed run on defense. Great for 2B

And as they would say, which would be either the happiest or most rage inducing three words ever... “That’s the game!”

    For now...

Mario Superstar Baseball and Mario Super Sluggers were both fantastic.

Played through them countless times, and had many fights with my brother over them.
