Foul ball or out
-
In a live MLB game; if a foul tip flies up in the air, towards the netting, and proceeds to hit the very top of the netting and then proceeds to bounce back into the field of play and is then caught by the fielder, is that considered an our or would it be deemed interference?
Because evidently, in this video game, it's an out.

Should be a foul ball.

I believe that would be considered a foul ball but we all know that this mlb the show game has their own different set of rules

MLB The Show is real life. All grass I touch and see is from MLB The Show. I've never seen a baseball game outside of MLB The Show. SDS makes quite literally the most accurate representation of what baseball should be that I have ever seen or beared witness to in my life. That sir, is a solid grade A pop out that is not reviewable for challenge.
Good catch keep up the good work and buy more $tub$! -

“A live ball (batted thrown or otherwise) striking any screen or protective netting set on the field facing a wall or railing (e.g., a backstop or protective netting along the first or third base lines) and rebounding onto the field is live and in play.”

@Blind_Bleeder Are you saying it is an out? That's not what that paragraph is saying. It just means it is live and in play. Even if you catch it the ball is in play and you have to react. It isn't an out.

I’m not making a judgement. I just copy and pasted the rule from that page.
But in my experience, if a live ball is caught before touching the ground or becoming dead, it’s an out.
There are better minds than mine that can decipher the rules more clearly than I can.

That definition doesn't make sense.
In real games, when it hits the netting it's declared "dead" and a foul ball, I've seen challenges where it was called an out and the challenging team said it hit the net,and it was overturned and ruled foul, also on over throws to first that hit the netting it is declared out of play and runners get the extra base. so that definition doesn't make sense. -
I don’t know. I just copy and pasted it.

@Blind_Bleeder No I'm not attacking you and sorry if seemed that way. Ive played, coached, and umped for many games. It has NEVER been the case that if the ball hits something and falls and you catch it it's an out. The ball must make contact with the bat then to the glove next to be recorded as an out.
Take the foul tip rule as example:
If the balls hits the dirt, catcher, equipment, umpire, etc then the catcher catches the ball it is recorded as a foul ball. Not an out. The same would apply if the batter fouls it into the net behind him.If the ball goes ONLY into the glove after contact with the bat then it's an out. And in the case of a foul tip I believe in the MLB it has to be caught by the catcher on the 3rd strike. So a foul tip into the catchers mitt on strike 1-2 is still not an out.
The reason there is more uniqueness in the foul tip to take the base runners into consideration. A baserunner can steal and not have to return to base on a foul tip into the catchers glove but would need to retreat back on a regular foul ball not caught by catcher. -
