And is it related to contact? For example fouling off pitches outside the zone or bad timing to adjust to foul offs.

Vision determines the size of your outer PCI which directly correlates to being able to foul off pitches versus swing and miss. K/9 for pitchers is the opposite and determines outer PCI size for opponent factoring in opponent vision. Never seen it proven anywhere and discipline is way way less important but I believe it helps with check swings and moving player out of the way for you on inside pitches

Yes, what @SMB-Freebird_XBL says is correct.

Discipline used to be a huge deal for check swings, bit in competitive mode, it’s supposed to be input only; they toned it down in 20 or 21 because it was ridiculously easy to do. It’s basically for the most part a sim stat, like HR/9.

I heard back in the say that discipline also helped get calls on borderline pitches, but never had confirmation.

So if I’m simulating, a player with a high discipline rating should draw more walks, right? Or is discipline ignored when simulating?

Supposedly. It's been 5 years (or so) since they told us what they meant and some of them don't seem to do what they used to anymore, so it's a guess again
