Begin playing on sub account before main account?

I have a question that is kind of the reverse of another thread. I realize that SDS is probably the only one that can answer this (@Collin_SDS_PSN).
Assuming Gamepass will have early access, then I will be able to begin playing at 9pm on 3/14 (Midnight eastern 3/15).
I purchased the NL edition from PS Direct, but it probably won't show up until around 3-4pm on 3/15 (FedEx).
My PS account is my primary.
If I begin playing on the XBX and then install the game on my PS5 when it arrives, will the PS pick up the progression from the XBX?
I guess it boils down to this: does the primary account need to have the game installed first in order for cross-progression to work?

Just letting you know, if you don't already, that if you want early access, and you're using GamePass, you would need to buy the DD Add On for $40.
