How is this lineup diversity thing working?
-
I remember when the sets and seasons were introduced and the argument was made that this would increase lineup diversity across the board and that would be a good thing (which it would be). I argued on the same day that it was announced that this would most likely backfire and actually DECREASE lineup diversity because of the limited pool of cards you can pick from. It was a terrible idea I said. Oh boy, the pitchforks came out real quick.
So let me ask again, how has that been going? I've been watching some games on Twitch and talked to some friends of mine and guess what. Everybody and their momma is running the same team. Surprise surprise who would've thought?
Oh and please don't come here to reply if you're the casual offline gamer who likes to mix things up when they beat up on the CPU on All-Star. I'm obviously referring to people who put together the best lineup possible to compete against other humans online.

If anything I think it’s made it worse. I don’t see how limiting the pool of players to choose from would ever help lineup diversity.
It was a plan they had to force people to keep buying new cards rather than being content with who they already have. That’s it.
All they have to do is balance how powerful the cards are they release and the timing of them. But they’ve had years to figure this out and they just can’t.

Yup. But they themselves tried to sell this idea of sets and seasons off as "increasing lineup diversity" and it's still mind-boggling to me how people could listen to that and be like "oh yeah I totally see how that might work".

I will honestly say that at the beginning of the year, I was willing to give SDS the benefit of the doubt. But with Season 4 approaching, I just don't see it.
However, I have a new Xbox so I'm kind of like a puppy that's been distracted by a squirrel.

The flash sale 2 Fridays ago gave everyone access to the Ripken captain card which further has made all online rosters look the same.
I think SDS had good intentions with this but it has played out like New Coke ( for those old enough to remember that disaster)

Agreed. Sets were never about "lineup diversity". Anyone who believed that was fooled. Sets are about expiring cards, and expiring cards are about more revenue.

I was early on the Ripken boost (my Ripken was the 8th superfractor) but now I feel like I play against my doppleganger every single time I boot up ranked.
The collection rewards and chase cards are so much better than the other cards that it doesn’t make sense to have any lineup variety.
I think we’ll see a lot of diversity when old sets get unlocked in Season 6, but how many of us will be around to see it?
Personally I finished the Set 3 collections and then started playing Madden even though I had sworn off of it. There’s no reason to keep playing once you complete the sets and have the Ranked and BR no sell cards.

"I do think there is more lineup diversity this year than in past years..."
You're joking, right? Or are you still defending anything and everything SDS does and intending to die on that hill? In years past there were absolutely more options to consider at each position because there were a ton of cards you could choose from since there were multiple "meta" cards for each position and often it would come down to personal preference. That's just not the case now, no two ways about it. Go make your way up the ranks and see what teams you run into when the opponents get a little better.

I'm not a casual because I play 98% offline, bub.
I'm as hardcore a baseball person as anybody.
Don't even go there, putting people down if they play on All-Star.
Online play didn't start until 1999. I was playing Hockey, Baseball, and Football videogames before 1999, so I DONT NEED to prove myself against other humans!
You guys act like you can play in MLB because you're good at push-button sports games. Give me a f-ing break.
And yeah, the lineups ARE going well for me as I've never used so many players and lineups this year....offline.
I'm proud to be the #1 offline player anyway, because that's how I started! -
I probably shouldn't give sds any ideas , but player fatigue, like pitcher fatigue could cause diversity. The lower the energy fielding drops etc . I don't know if there is anything they could do . People are always going to use the best cards available. I don't think I've ever faced a team themed team , I use angels theme team 80% of the time , I even use some live series cards.
Do you guys have any solutions? -

I'm just saying that people who play offline and DON'T compete will care less about their line up variety and might use cards that people who do compete against each other will not even consider. This was not about bashing people who only play offline, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't try to hijack this thread with that narrative. Thank you.

No, I'm not joking, simply offering up my opinion based on what I have seen so far as someone who actually plays the game.
I don't know why you always have to get so emotional about this stuff and lash out at anyone who has a different opinion than you. I have never defended anything and everything SDS does, but I know that's your go to line anytime you are triggered by a different opinion. Of course you left out the part in your quote where I said there is a not a lot of lineup diversity in general because that didn't fit the narrative you wanted to create about me.
I'm really starting to feel bad for you man. Spending all this time on a forum for a game you don't even play just to whine, argue and try to make other people as miserable as you are. It's getting really sad and I hope things improve for you soon. I'm here if you ever need to have a real conversation. I'd love to see you lift yourself up out of this spiral someday soon.

Do you guys have any solutions?I mean things were fine as they were imo. But I just wanted to point out that they tried to sell this idea of sets under the false pretense that it would create more lineup diversity and it's just not true and people (myself included) could see that from the start. It's a way to ensure you grind more and keep people engaged when you can no longer use your previous set cards. It all comes down to player retention, to keep you playing and to keep you grinding mindlessly for the new set cards. Heck you might even get tired of it and buy a bundle for a chance at that card that blows the free card you get for grinding hours and hours out of the water! I'm sure you see what I'm getting at.

I only lash out against people who never actually want to debate and stick to one side of the argument depending on who is on the other side of the argument. The real clowns around here. People like you. Good day.

Ugh, it's only fitting that someone like you would assume something is wrong with me and then proceed to offer the arrogant high horsed "I'm here for you if you ever need someone to talk" bs. Pretending to be caring and understanding but it all comes from a position of belittlement and superiority. It falls perfectly in line with the character you show around here.

I would give SDS credit for trying something new if I thought it was done in good faith. I don't think that because I think this system was designed to (1) keep people on the treadmill forever or (2) shortcut it by buying stubs.
(1) isn't necessarily a bad thing but the rewards have to be desirable. In this game the rewards are merely collection pieces for the most part. And it should go without saying that grinding for lesser versions of players we already have is very uninspiring.
They did have a very good idea for this year in captains, but ironically they would have been a much greater addition to the old progression system. With the high diamonds from day 1 their impact has been muted.

I'm truly sorry that you feel that way. I in no way feel that I am superior to anyone on here and do not mean to belittle anyone.
I do care and am trying to be understanding. I've tried to be as respectful as possible, and no matter how much you continue to hurl insults at me I will continue to offer to be here if you ever need to talk.
I get that can be tough to do with a stranger on the internet, so no hard feelings either way, I just want you to know that the option is there. I promise I am not the character that you've created in your head for me. I'm just a regular dude like the rest of us.

So how about sending that message privately then just saying
