I am curious if batting attributes are less important than being a switch hitter. For example, the 99 Mauer card has three attributes lower (vis -2, disc -19, reac -2 - which has nothing to do with switch hitting. Mauer's con l, pow l, dur, fld, and arm are the same) than the 99 Rutschman card, but people say they would rather have Rutschman because he is a switch hitter. (Mauer only has one attribute lower than the 97 Rutschman card).

Is there some hidden benefit to switch hitters outside the attributes?

I've been wondering about this for a couple of years (re: switch hitters), but now I'm ready to actually ask the question.

For me, it's not really about any hidden benefit, but more just about me struggling to hit sometimes with hitters on the same side as the pitcher so having some switch hitters just makes that easier if the attributes are at least somewhat similar. And less reason to worry about needing to pinch hit late in the game.

Thank you. I've noticed that about hitting on opposite sides of the pitcher. Not that I hit better, but I think I see the ball better. Does that make sense? I hadn't thought about that part. Thanks.

part of it in my mind is sinkers in and cutters away feel much harder on same handed batters. Not that I can hit in general but I think it plays a role in why most people like switch hitters. Also sometimes its simply people like the swing of certain guys more or may struggle due to size of player.

Yeah that absolutely makes sense. I agree that seeing the ball better plays in to it.

It is pretty much the same as the benefit is in real life. Breaking stuff is easier to pickup when it is moving toward you rather than away. Sinkers are also a bit easier to time up rather than them busting in on your hands.

You actually end up seeing the ball longer this is the reason switch hitting exists because in a game where you have a fraction of a second to make a decision that wee bit of extra time gives you a stupendous advantage

ps also just another reason that HOJO was awesome

Middle in( fully in,not painted) I jam on low 90s a lot in same side, but oppo sides I can turn on the same middle in 97-100,sometimes outlier.
RvR is a lot easier than LvL cause you see it more.

Like IRL, you have more slightly more time to pick up a pitch better from the opposite side of the Pitcher's throwing hand. This is why most CAP/Ballplayer cards are switch hitters.

I made My Ballplayer (Josh Gibson) a right handed hitter, because that is the side of the plate he hit IRL. Personally, I can hit a little better in R vs R, over L vs L, since I have more experience facing RHPs.

While I would prefer using a hitting card that is a switch hitter, that is not the only factor that goes into the card that I want to use. For example, Bett's cards hit well for me R vs R, as his cards turn on inside pitches very well.
