Please lend me a hand…

I’ve accumulated 20k in stubs finally and I’d like to get a decent player. I realize this won’t buy me someone great but you guys who know this game much better than me might be able to make a recommendation at least, please? My worry is that I’ll buy someone who I’ll be given as a reward. I don’t play online just do the moments and programs etc.
I’d prefer a decent pitcher. Do i just need to wait? No wrong answer I’ll consider anything if you’ll just take a moment to share with me. Thanks!

You're not going to get much with 20k. Greg Maddux (The Professor) and Mariano Rivera (The Sandman) are available in the price range. For hitters you could go with Chase Utley or Grady Sizemore.
If you're looking for good cards cheap, they are probably going to be reward cards like these (you said you were worried about that, but in this case you can't earn all of them anyway) or the base round in a choice pack, which will be lower tier cards.
If I were you, I would use that 20k and flip on the market using the app to get more stubs. That's a personal choice though. Starting with that little to invest means it will take a while. Once you have 100-200k, increasing the stub count goes a lot faster.

Thank you so much! I’d be thrilled with maddux but when I typed “Maddux” into the market search on the app I didn’t get and hits. Thank you again I’ll just scroll until I see him

Found him. Didn’t realize he’d be sporting a pair of fundies. Thanks again

The Corbin Burnes Capt card from TA1 is free and would be good for the offline portions of the game

Thank you for this advice! I’ll keep an eye out for him. Right now I’m basically using mostly the April Monthy team as it’s the one program I’ve completed. It’s a bit of a conundrum for me because I’m actually really pleased with their performance! I’ve got the boosted de la Cruz which, offensively speaking is simply creepy but he was booting so many balls in the infield for me that I switched to DH.
I’ve got a smattering of May players in my bullpen like Bautista, Cano, and one other and I’ve got Mo and just added John Franco because I couldn’t decide between Kluber and Snell! I picked up the triple crown Walter Johnson earlier and, thanks to this post, now I’ve got Greg Maddux to go with Zac Gallen (April) ,Framber Valdez (May?) and Pablo Lopez from the WBC set.
I did this last year…I tried making a team from all the top cards and they were solid but I had about the same luck from the team I had made from the monthly awards then too.
This game is just so much fun to me especially now that I’ve met some great guys on this forum to play friendlies with! I think this is the biggie because it seems like 94/100 of the negative feedback seems to be angst over the toxicity online with all the chickenshits out there so once you find some good people who, even when they take one back behind the woodshed and beat the stuffing out of ya, it’s still fun because it stays friendly. I’m having a blast playing this and coming on here and reading the many great and helpful things that everyone has to say - when/if I come across the nasties i simply skip on to the next.
It’s so easy to discern the good ones. If it sounds like something a person would have the chutzpah to say to my face, then I know it’s going to be good. Simple! Like your post to me and I thank you and the rest of you good people on here…you know who you are. It’s appreciated I assure you.
